@@silverbeach85 Yes, if you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt if you were misled by misinformation. Explain your side thoroughly because the customer service rep may know zero about collectibles or legitimate vs. knockoffs. Remember, the customer service rep may be in India, Malaysia, etc. No, if it is buyer's remorse.
To be perfectly honest, the knockoffs don't look bad at all, and they do look close enough the official release that they do display well on a shelf. They actually aren't a bad purchase at all as long as you're paying the proper price for them and know they're knockoffs when you purchase them. If the original seller hadn't ripped you off (the knockoffs are about $15 to $20 each -- currently), I would say just keep them and enjoy them. They honestly do look good. And considering you were actually excited when you first got them, that's pretty telling of how good the quality of the knockoffs actually are. For me, the fact that the seller tried to rip you off is what the real issue is here.
it’s going to be hard to notice the difference from a distant in a display amongst other figures… i mean, unless you were to stand them, side by side with their NECA counterparts… and who’s actively going to do that?
@@ADAM_COLLECTS i mean... why even get them if you're not going to get the real ones? nevermind who looks at your collection. hopefully you buy toys for your own enjoyment. i notice the difference after buying a knock off Raph and then a set of the real ones, the real blow the knocks offs out of the water.
@@twentytwo138 I will say that the Mirage Comic TMNT figures knock offs are great from what I've seen. I'm actually planning on getting a set of those. Once I add a few details, they'll be pretty much indistinguishable from the real Neca figures. But if you're going to get the 1990 movie Turtles, I promise that if you get the real ones instead of the knock offs, you'll thank yourself for it a thousand times over. Maybe some people can't tell much of a difference, but I can tell a HUUUGGGE difference between the real vs K.O.s. I get that the knock offs are way cheaper, depending on where or who you buy them from, but the extra cash was well worth spending to me in this case. I have a KO Raphael, and that's the first one I got, but then I bought the real ones, and even another set of the real ones, and Raph in disguise, so now i have 3 real Raphs and 1 KO Raph and the real ones blow the fake one away big time.
Just purchased the knock offs and can’t wait for them to arrive. I can’t imagine paying the astronomical price that the legit ones go for. They look close enough to the real ones and look great on a shelf, so who cares? As long as someone isn’t trying to pass them off as legit, I don’t see anything wrong with it.
It’s how funny how the authentic look like the original movie and the bootlegs look like the sequels of that. Good vid bro. Time stamps for the next one would be awesome. Keep it up!
If your complaint is marked not as described eBay will refund you. You can get into trouble for selling counterfeit products. I’m glad you covered that because most people will mark it as just a return and eBay will not protect that
4:48 There's actually an even easier, surefire way to tell which figures are knockoffs. Read the blurb on the back of the box. The box is for Donatello, but the blurb is talking about Michelangelo. The blurbs on the back of every knockoff box are for Michelangelo, regardless of which turtle it actually is.
It seemed like the knock-offs had less attention to detail in the overall mold too. Like the veins weren’t nearly as noticeable on them as they were the legitimate figures. Great video man!
i don't think it's the molds, i think it's partly the cheaper plastic they use in the molds, and they have shoddy paint jobs so the details like the veins in hands, or the scar on Raph's face can't really be seen because they just don't stand out.
When I was a child here in Chile, bootleg versions of all the toys was day and night compare to the originals. But know It's very impressive the quality of the fake ones. Great and very usefull video. Saludos from Chile!
I've just ordered all 4 turtles on Ebay for $10 each including shipping. They're not advertised as bootlegs, but honestly, for that price I don't care.
You and me both, compadre. Facebook Collector groups are probably the best place for that info. Plus other collectors are there helping each other catch up.
GLAD I came across this. I saw some models online and knew something was strange about some of those figures. Like why is Rafael smiling and head super shiny??? 😂😂😂 Almost wanted to message the sellers directly and shame them. Welp, for the sellers selling knock offs, knock it off. We’re aware now
I got the knock offs not knowing. I was a bit skeptic because of the price but I'm actually really happy with them. I payed 12 dollars for each figure and they actually look really good. Free shipping too. If there's anyone that doesn't care if they are legit or not, and don't want to spend the money, I actually recommend them.
I have a set of the real movie turtles, but I would buy the KO just for shelve show. If the get broken I wouldn’t get so upset. But I 100% would be pissed if they tried to dupe me. So I’m glad you got your money back
Before I thought to try and get my money back I was playing with the idea of drilling a hole into the shells of the KOs for a stop motion rig, but then I got that refund.
I fell victim to this. My girlfriend bought all four of them on Amazon for a deal and I immediately thought they were strange when I saw that plastic over them. All the joints are really loose which is not normal for neca you usually have to work them in. The paint application is definitely subpar. Definitely returning mine
I bought a knock-off Leo and when he came, his sword sheathes had been broken. The joints for the legs are also very very loose, but I had known that he was a knock-off and I bought him for like 14 bucks so I wasn't THAT disappointed.
I remember my brother and I bought the bootleg Leo and Raph in 2020, but recently, I was able to buy the original 4 turtles, April, Splinter, Shredder, and soon, Casey.
Another thing I noticed is that the fake ones all have "Michaelangelo" on the back of the box (the white text). Just like in the video at 4:50 - on the box of the fake Donatello, it says Michelangelo on the back.
I intentionally got the 4-pack bootleg set because I'm not paying over $300 for a whole set of TMNT figures. Far cheaper to get bootlegs, plus I love the VHS style box. Unfortunately, my set came with a broken Mikey whose bottom shell was never properly closed and attached so his legs kept falling out. Easily fixed it with a combo of superglue and using my soldering gun to melt the two plastic shell pieces together. Only thing I don't like about my bootlegs are the face paint application. The paint isn't blended on the face so it looks like someone did a quick spray of paint on their noses and left it at that. Other than that, they look fine imo.
Thanks for watching! The 2-packs are still popping up on the shelves at Walmart from time to time. At retail its $120 for the set, but you dont get that sweet sweet VHS packaging. Sorry to hear about your Mikey, dude. Yeah that facepaint is what got me. After seeing some legit NECAs on the shelf at Walmart I had to replace those bootlegs lol
fun fact the sdcc 4 pack even had better paint apps than the mass released ones from gamestop etc. the yellow chest on the turtles for example have more shading to them in the 4 pack (not to mention it came with at the time unique accesoires)
I only have two; Leo and Ralph. But I've somehow missplaced Ralph after taking him out. No clue how. Glad to learn at least my Leo is real. Just need to locate Ralph so I can check him as well. There's a Etsy artist that recreates the weapons in real metal. They're not cheap ($50) but they are high quality. Leo's and Ralph's are pointy enough to hurt, but they are not sharpe. I now keep Leo's default swords on his back while holding the metal ones. And looks soooooo much cooler.
Thanks for this. Just got my KO donnie and leo. The moment I saw the plastic wrapping on the figures my heart sank. Yes, the differences are very noticeable.
Just got my turtles in today and I felt the same exact way as you. I was extremely happy and super stoked. But now I realize they are knock-offs. So I’m a bit bummed but I still really like them. But the paint apps are definitely noticeable. I was suprised at first looking at mine and the some of the fingernails were very sloppily applied. Then the extra “flowy” bandana accessory for some of the turtles wouldn’t fit the peg in the back of the head. I bought them from Walmart so it’s kinda crazy that they made their way into such a high corporate company. I was just suprised when I started inspecting them more closely and just had a feeling something was off. So I did some research(just like you did) and now I understand and can see the differences. Luckily I didn’t pay ALOT for them. I pretty much paid 20 bucks a piece for them. But for how much I DO actually enjoy them. For 20 bucks I love having them on my shelf. I enjoyed the video man. Thanks for clearing that up. Great review! Thanks for clearing that up man.
Thank you for this incredible video! I am always anxious about getting the official versions of these things. After watching this video, I was so acutely aware of the differences that I grilled a seller on Ebay before I paid a penny to make sure I was getting the real deal. I paid £150 (I'm in the UK) for all four turtles and I can thankfully say, after revisiting this video today and inspecting what I received, I have the authentic, genuine NECA figures. So thank you kindly, sir!
I actually pre-ordered mine from Neca. Ihave seen videos mine are original but my friend has a real Donatello and real Leonardo, but has the fake Raphael and a fake Michangelo. Yet he loves them just as much as me with my own. He's happy with his collection. I myself would mind and it would bother me a great deal. But we do need to ask these frauds out there, but it is down too individuals who see a bargain and like you said, these are a big part of you starting you're TH-cam chanel was a passion for those turtles.
The easiest way to spot which is very very noticible as I own both too are the straps. The paint looks like leather on the real but the fake are shiny plastic. It's very telling straight away.
Just bought a set of KOs and I respectively have to say they look better than the originals. They are not perfect, but they seemed to improve on the original design. Head and body proportions are better, and they improved the paint job. The KOs shown in this video are not a good example. That was a bad batch. My KOs look nothing like this video. Way better. Even the ones you believe to be authentic look off for some reason, but maybe it's because the KOs have exceeded it?
Interesting, I have the official ones but there’s no movement like you showed at 11:35. It’s pretty solid and fixed. Otherwise the painting is the same as original.
I found out about these too late. I had a similar experience to yours but I never pulled the trigger on actually buying them. I don't want to take the chance of them not being official. It would always be in the back of my head. My experience did make me jump on the sequel figures, which arrived this week.
today the thought came- what if those companies have an agreement that they produce a and b class models of the same model or if they have production failure than they sort it out and in both cases send it in bulk to china, a seller sells it from there as bootleg?
Not knock offs, the short tail bandanas, are part one, Part 2 has long bandanas, and of course the samurai version And all are face interchangeable.. The yellow belly's are wall marts, And the dark toned belly's are vhs versions
I got so lucky. I took a risk on an auction and won the Walmart 2 packs for $50 each. They turned out to be authentic! My Raphael is looking slightly to the right, but it's barely noticeable. Other than that, they look completely legit.
I got the official ones at my local walmart store just like the double packs you got, but my ralph came with casey and with his trench coat. Than anothee time i found the 2nd movie series and than before Christmas of 2023 i found the 3rd movie ones as well i got them all from all 3 movies, tbey are 60 bucks plus tax and you can also finde shredder with splinter only at the walmart local stores.
You wouldnt happen to have the link would you? I know some knock offs are better than others, and these look awesome! Did they have a strong odor, or feeling to them? Thanks :)
It’s funny which I think this shows if you’re a true TMNT fan. I’ve been one since I was kid and I’m 38 now. I knew right off just by the face. The faces on the OG’s look just like the movie facial expressions. In general, man those movie models are sick.
I bought one of these sets off aliexpress for 60 knowing they were bootlegs back when I couldn't find real ones in Walmart. Huge difference side by side but if you didn't know they look decent.
I have all four and the only one with an issue is Michael Angelo he has Crazy off set eyes. And I checked the boxes all the Proper logos are there so, I'm confused
Bought mine off a facebook geek group this week, i know the seller and i trust him completely as he's never steered me wrong before but this video did help to identify these as authentic. thx for that!
Great Video. I’ve been wanting these figure for the longest, and started to collect them as of yesterday, but only the 2 pack’s, because I can’t find the original individual packs.
Thanks! The legit single packs are going to be pricey on the secondary market. The two packs seem to be hitting the shelves again, probably due to the TMNT III 4-pack having alternate heads for them. Good Hunting.
Another way you can tell us the back of the boxes have the wrong turtle description. Like on Leo’s box is says Michelangelo and describes Michelangelo lol
Question: Does a Neca TMNT box always have the GameStop sign on it or not? I got a, according to my eye, a true Neca set but the boxes don't have the Only @GameStop sign on the boxes. Plus what's funny, my Leo has his lower shell line slightly bending. :)
The singles will be the only ones with the Gamestop logo on them, but they dont HAVE to have it to be authentic. Check for plastic sheets obscuring the crappy paint apps. If its just the logo you are worried about you might be good!
You’re a kool bro! Thanks for the video. I just ordered Raph and Leo and smart me decided to look up video reviews AFTER i bought them. In any case, I paid through PayPal and have buyer protection so no worries 😁
Yeah, i've been through the same struggle. I've managed to resell the fakes and bought the authentic ones. The real ones look exactly like the movie costumes, the fake ones are just "similar"
I remember when my friends and I encountered our first bootlegs, they were these cheap dbz figures from a local fair but my friend forked out a little extra for a larger goku statue and when we got it home its quality showed through definitely, the small ones we didnt care much about being fake but the large figure was very dissapointing in quality so I have always kept an eye out for fakes of anything since, this video really helped tho since not many people can identify these turtle fakes, I think I found a real leo tho hopefully thanks to this for a good price
Its hard to say without seeing a photo. The major tells are the plastrons (front shell) bright yellow lips, and the eyes. If those are good, you are probably safe. Thanks for watching
Fakes of comics have been circulating the market recently and I actually saw the fakes at a comic con and asked what’s up with the bag over the turtles
Great video. I’m looking to buy the set and didn’t know about the knockoffs. Do you have any recommendations on what sites to trust when buying the collection? I don’t want knockoffs. I found sellers on EBAY, but worried they legit.
Facebook Groups are probably the best way to go to connect with other collectors. You can still find these figures on the shelves at Walmart. Check the collectibles section in the electronics department. If outside the US I would say the FB groups and Ebay are your best bet. Ask the seller for more photos to vet their authenticity. Be wary of any "too good to be true" prices
The official has a better pant job. Less visible spotting the eye job is slightly off. The dark paint on the bandana is just messy. But all in Honesty I was the same as you. I spent 400 pounds on a box set coz we can’t get them in UK or at least I can’t 😢
It hurts when you realize it :( Yeah man, I have heard a lot of the stuff is hard to get over there. Best advice I have is to join FB collector groups. Sometimes members on there will ship internationally. Good luck on your hunts dude!
KO's or not they still look awesome I have all four of the original figures and just ordered Leo and Raph off of Temu for 38 bucks and will get Donnie and Mikey when they restock 😁
In this case it was the same, which is why I demanded a refund. It all depends on the KO, but I have seen these on Aliexpress for as low as $4 + $15 in shipping for the singles.
I don't think I have heard of any 1/4 scale knockoffs. The ones to watch for are the 7" 1990 movie figures, the 2008 Mirage Turtles, and cartoon BeBop and Rocksteady.
They shouldnt. What could have happened was that someone swapped the real figures with KOs and then returned them to the store. You see it a lot at Target and Walmart.
Yeah, I'd get the knockoffs if they're just for an "out of box" display at home so long's they're not charging anywhere near the retail price of the real deal.
I got knockoff one cause it was expensive and nearly impossible to find original one in my country. It is not too bad but again i don't have original to compare.
In all honesty, the fakes look like the turtle on TMNT 3, very glossy, dominant spots and bug eyed lol I love these, I got my set when they released through GameStop, haven’t stopped collecting since.

One thing the KOs are good for is that they are easy to take apart for kitbashing!
I would give it a shot had I paid KO prices. I have gotten my money back though, so now the KOs can be converted to legit figs!
Interesting, I have the official ones but there’s no movement like you showed at 11:35. It’s pretty solid and fixed. Otherwise the painting is the same as original.
I could also tell by the long necks on the knock offs and I saw another video that on the every box it says Michelangelo.
I found out about these too late. I had a similar experience to yours but I never pulled the trigger on actually buying them. I don't want to take the chance of them not being official. It would always be in the back of my head. My experience did make me jump on the sequel figures, which arrived this week.
Those SoTO figures are so nice! You can still find the first movie 2-packs on the shelves at Walmart for now.
@@bblakeypoo Good to know. I might take a look if I have time. Hate Walmart around Xmas though. But would be worth it to find them.
@@bblakeypoo Walmart will have the 90s 1st movie turtles, too?
@@jonmposada7 yeah, they are still pretty hard to find, but the two packs are at Walmart
today the thought came- what if those companies have an agreement that they produce a and b class models of the same model or if they have production failure than they sort it out and in both cases send it in bulk to china, a seller sells it from there as bootleg?
I definitely fell for this as well 2 years ago when I first started collecting smh
Not knock offs, the short tail bandanas, are part one,
Part 2 has long bandanas, and of course the samurai version
And all are face interchangeable..
The yellow belly's are wall marts,
And the dark toned belly's are vhs versions
I got so lucky. I took a risk on an auction and won the Walmart 2 packs for $50 each. They turned out to be authentic!
My Raphael is looking slightly to the right, but it's barely noticeable. Other than that, they look completely legit.
Здравствуйте, а где заказывали черепах?
I got the official ones at my local walmart store just like the double packs you got, but my ralph came with casey and with his trench coat. Than anothee time i found the 2nd movie series and than before Christmas of 2023 i found the 3rd movie ones as well i got them all from all 3 movies, tbey are 60 bucks plus tax and you can also finde shredder with splinter only at the walmart local stores.
Thank you for this video i am actually getting ready to buy the large 1:4 scale 1990 turtles and you have given me insight on what to look for.
Please I really need information did you buy them from Walmart and did Michelangelo cost 2699😢
Thank you so much!! I got mine in the same packaging but the ones I got has dots on the heads so I am returning
For those who want to make sure they don’t get a bootleg then definitely get the 2 packs since those were never bootlegged
Great video! These bootlegs look good to me! I just found them on eBay for a good price! Side note your voice reminds me of Kevin Smith.
Just came across the bootlegs today an was happy to grab all 4 , so now my enjoying them with the rest of his action figures
Now dont get me wrong, I have fond memories of playing with the OG Playmates figures as a kid, but these are the figures I dreamed of!
I bought one of these sets off aliexpress for 60 knowing they were bootlegs back when I couldn't find real ones in Walmart. Huge difference side by side but if you didn't know they look decent.
Especially when you are new to the game
I have all four and the only one with an issue is Michael Angelo he has Crazy off set eyes. And I checked the boxes all the Proper logos are there so, I'm confused
Sometimes the paint app can be a little off due to Quality Control failures. It doesnt always mean they are KO but the eyes are usually a giveaway.
Bought mine off a facebook geek group this week, i know the seller and i trust him completely as he's never steered me wrong before but this video did help to identify these as authentic. thx for that!
Glad I could help! Congrats on your awesome figures!
The second you whipped out that leo I was like fake lol
Those yellow lips!
Another way you can tell us the back of the boxes have the wrong turtle description. Like on Leo’s box is says Michelangelo and describes Michelangelo lol
The knockoffs are probably a little better than the NECA ones. At least they're not broken right out of the package.
I have had that happen with one set...RIP BeBop and Rocksteady. I sent them back to NECA for a replacement only to receive a refund instead. womp womp
@@bblakeypoo , cheers! I believe mine to be original, bought in an official collectors shop. They look aawesome. :)
You’re a kool bro! Thanks for the video. I just ordered Raph and Leo and smart me decided to look up video reviews AFTER i bought them. In any case, I paid through PayPal and have buyer protection so no worries 😁
Glad I could help
I have the knockoffs but somehow dont match your description. Are there multiple KO versions?
I have only heard of the ones like what I had, but who knows...they could always make more
Opened mines yesterday and wondered why the plastic was on them. took the sheets off and immediately seem all arms and feet were backward
ouch
did you find out about the other characters like shredder or splinter ?
Yeah, i've been through the same struggle. I've managed to resell the fakes and bought the authentic ones. The real ones look exactly like the movie costumes, the fake ones are just "similar"
yeah the KOs look like they left the real ones in the sun for too long or something
Congrats on your Leo! Thanks for watching
Can you still find a the two packs at retail price
Great review and very informative! Thank you for this.
The knes at the walmart store itself are legit the ones you buy at walmart online are probably not.
My Neca tmnt movie 2packs had tape holding down the lower bandana on each side of each 2 pack, are they fakes? Yours appeared to not have it
Its hard to say without seeing a photo. The major tells are the plastrons (front shell) bright yellow lips, and the eyes. If those are good, you are probably safe. Thanks for watching
You could use the knock offs as base models for custom painting I suppose
That was the plan if I werent able to get a refund
@@bblakeypoo ah I see 🤘🤘
I bought two Raphael’s and I just realized thanks for this video one is legit and one is bootleg. Sucks but this is still cool
Fakes of comics have been circulating the market recently and I actually saw the fakes at a comic con and asked what’s up with the bag over the turtles
What you pay for em approximately ?
Great video. I’m looking to buy the set and didn’t know about the knockoffs.
Do you have any recommendations on what sites to trust when buying the collection? I don’t want knockoffs.
I found sellers on EBAY, but worried they legit.
Facebook Groups are probably the best way to go to connect with other collectors. You can still find these figures on the shelves at Walmart. Check the collectibles section in the electronics department. If outside the US I would say the FB groups and Ebay are your best bet. Ask the seller for more photos to vet their authenticity. Be wary of any "too good to be true" prices
I had a question for you I some Ninja Turtles and there brand new I haven't opened it now my boyfriend says not to open what do you recommend
I open most of my stuff, but some people like to keep everything minty fresh in box. Neither way is wrong. Collecting is to be enjoyed
That’s not fair. I got the 17.5 inch version of Ralph. Mine didn’t come with a pizza slice though haha.
I am jelly of your giant Raph. Those 1/4 scale turtles are so dope!
I found entire set of the knockoffs for 100 bucks, and i didnt hesitate. Cant wait for the to arrive.
Nice video!! It’s really helpful! 😁
Thanks for watching!
KO's or not they still look awesome I have all four of the original figures and just ordered Leo and Raph off of Temu for 38 bucks and will get Donnie and Mikey when they restock 😁
I have a Raphael POP! autographed by Sean Astin and Rob Paulsen. James Spence certificate of authenticity at Los Angeles Comic Con.
So where can I get the officials?
What was the price difference to buy the fakes vs the originals?
In this case it was the same, which is why I demanded a refund. It all depends on the KO, but I have seen these on Aliexpress for as low as $4 + $15 in shipping for the singles.
Are the Naca figures that are 1/4 scale real or are those fake as well?
I don't think I have heard of any 1/4 scale knockoffs. The ones to watch for are the 7" 1990 movie figures, the 2008 Mirage Turtles, and cartoon BeBop and Rocksteady.
Ok mines fake but the friend who gifted it to me said he picked it up at GameStop. Does GameStop sell fakes?
They shouldnt. What could have happened was that someone swapped the real figures with KOs and then returned them to the store. You see it a lot at Target and Walmart.
Yeah, I'd get the knockoffs if they're just for an "out of box" display at home so long's they're not charging anywhere near the retail price of the real deal.
I got knockoff one cause it was expensive and nearly impossible to find original one in my country. It is not too bad but again i don't have original to compare.
Id like a set of ko's just to customize them.
I got mine from the cmdstore online and a bunch of other movie and toon ones
Nice! I cant get enough of them
No knockoff turtles in the 2 packs best shot at authentic set are the 2 packs
would like to see april and casey jones and spliter and shredder
Where can i buy a legit pair? Is ebay safe?
In all honesty, the fakes look like the turtle on TMNT 3, very glossy, dominant spots and bug eyed lol I love these, I got my set when they released through GameStop, haven’t stopped collecting since.
I think the fakes might even look a little better than the third movie suits haha. I feel ya, I am hooked now
I wish I saw this before I got my knock off of Michelangelo.
I really liked the fake one. At least visually. Better eyes, bandana, face.
