Hi, i'm Italian!! CIAO was among the best-selling scooters in Italy between 1970/1980.
Immediately after came the "BRAVO" and the "SI" always from PIAGGIO. They could be used at 14 years-old without a license, so all the boys had one at home.

  • @fabiorossi2667
    @fabiorossi2667 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Hy!! I'm from Italy, I drove 1 when I was young!! The correct name is "CIAO" same word in English is "HELLO"! Is a 50 engine and you can use also like a bike!! Maximum speed is 45 km/h!

Ciao like in goodbye/hello in Italian. Not chow.
If I should try to write it out phonetically, I'd end with something like "chee-auo".
But the real way it's written phonetically; (/ˈtʃaʊ/; Italian pronunciation: [ˈtʃaːo])

Piaggio must have made millions of these, every kid here in Italy had one so there must be lots of parts available online. I love the luggage box's, never seen those.

It’s Italian, so it’s pronounced, “Pia-jee-oh” (soft G, almost like a Z with a SH), and “Ciao” is pronounced, “chow” (actually, “chee-ow”), as in when an Italian person says “ciao” to you for hello, goodbye, or best wishes...

Highly tuneable. 70ccm kits available for little money. Cool expansion snail house exhausts. All readily available on eBay. There are nice 4 spoke Aluminium rims for it. And a torque converter.

S.p.a stands for "societe par anonyme" (excuse my FRENCH spelling - it's a roman language , Italians spells it somewhat similar) which is exactly the same as LTD in english. Piaggio is the same company that makes the world famous Vespa which, by the way, means wasp in your language. - You know these black/yellow menaces you don't want around....

A friend, living in Old Town, Stockholm, frequently saw the then Crown Prince riding in his light blue Targa with her. The Car was many years later found, restored and given back to him as a birthday present... So - there is some royal proveniens to your car!

Virtual high-five for getting it running. :)
I had a Puch Maxi K back in the day, didn't have a choke, just a primer. I would "tip" the primer untill the bowl was full, twist the throttle 2 times, give the kick-starter a good kick, and it would fire right up.
I would love to have one again, but the prices are insane. You can get one that is barely running for the equivalent of about $1000!

First off, I love your channel. Just came across it last week and binge watched! If we lived closer, I’m certain that we would be friends.
My son and I love doing so many of the same things that you do! Although my daughter wants no part of it!
I still have my 1974 Vespa Ciao! I put 7,000 miles of its total of 11,000 miles along with four of my friends that all had Ciao’s.
That was back in the 70’s. Keep up the good work! God Bless you and your cute little kids.
Also, Piaggio is pronounounce pea- ad-g-o, but easy on the d, because you don’t actually say it because the double g in Italian take on a new sound. Lol, It is Four syllables.
Ciao is pronounced Chow. Btw, I have an extra speedometer, maybe a carb, turn signals, handle bars and other various parts

There is a decomp lever under the rear brake lever on the left it makes it way easier to start. Also if your getting parts make sure your getting the single speed parts not variated transmission ones as the rear wheel and clutch are different. If your doing any engine work the cennecting rod size is a 12pin not 10 pin. Finding some parts for this model is a pain in the behind I have the same year and model in blue and it is near impossible to find the correct side panels and lunch box sides. This model uses a battery for turn signals but for lights and brakes it is run off the engine. A great place to find parts is treatland mopeds.

I found this video as I was looking for tips on getting my Ciao running. I think I have a fuel and carb issues as bike has been sitting for about 5 years. It did run, but just stalled out, and never started again. I want to try to get it running before I turn into an electric bike as last resorts. Did you restore your bike?

Hi, I remember this moped! Someone (most beautiful girl around!) in my class had one and let me repair it (fat spark plug). It drove wonderfully! Ehm..., this was some 1971 or 1972! Nice channel! Kind regards from the Netherlands!

Really glad you’re enjoying and glad to have you! Are you local? I’ve been meaning to for years. I know one of the guys who puts it together and he’s invited me a couple times. I’ll definitely be going next year! I talked to him Wednesday and he said it’s off for this year sadly 😕

Spiritus Malingus I did film it along time ago but don’t have the footage anymore 😕 it was one of those crazy old places with acres of stuff piled high. We bought a couple lots of stuff. This is something I had left, just been hanging around. Need to move stuff to find the Porsche so I figured I would get it going before I sell 🙂
