My grandpa was a bombadier on a b-25 in 1944-45. He encountered jets once and there were two of them. Said they went right through the middle of the formation and 3 aircraft were damaged. 2 eventually went down. After he got home he didn't get into an airplane for 40 years.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Yeager on a couple of occasions. He said he followed the 262 down after it had had some engine troubles. He shot it down on a landing approach.
Galland found that diving attacks on bombers with the 262 were not effective because of excessive closure. Instead, he preferred a roller-coaster approach where the 262s would dive at high speed through any escorts trailing the bombers, achieving a position behind and several thousand feet below the bombers, then pull up, bleeding speed, into firing position from 6 o'clock low, then diving away to set up a second run. If equipped with R4M rockets, the 262s would salvo the rockets into the formation before firing their cannon, in the hopes of scoring some devastating hits and breaking up the formation.
Slashing attack work well too. You start with a head-on run, then dive, turn around while climbing, overtake the bomber formation, then turn while diving so you slash across the formation. Attacking like this could yield the opportunity to shoot down more than one bomber per attack run.

The mission readiness state of the 262 was abysmal, and there's a reason the surviving airworthy 262s aren't flying on the Jumo 004 engines. The wing sweep was also not sufficient to overcome transonic drag effects, and was only implemented to correct a center of gravity issue. The configuration, with the engines in pods under the wings, was also aerodynamically obsolete almost from the moment it flew (there's a reason why modern jet fighters have their engines either in the fuselage, as in the P-80).

Yes, there were fighter variants of the Mosquito, as well as night fighters and fighter bombers. These variants were identified with F, NF, and FB, respectively, before the Mark. The 262 was ultimately a failure. The Jumo 004 engines only had a life expectancy of only about a dozen or so hours, resulting in an incredibly poor mission readiness state. Only 300 262s ever actually saw combat, half of which were shot down by the Allies, and only a handful were ever operable at one time. Their vulnerability during landing and takeoff necessitated the Luftwaffe pull entire squadrons of conventional fighters off the front lines for airfield protection duty. Erich Hartmann was forced to crash-land his fighter 16 times after either mechanical failure or damage received from parts of enemy aircraft he had shot down.
Awesome video
The Me 262, the killer of wingtips
beautiful bird but it has had its weaknesses. So pilot have to know how to use the power of the 262 and compensate the weaknesses
Goodness Gravyius IL-2 is so back
Makes you wonder how the air war would have gone if these were introduced early in the war in large numbers. I think things would have turned out quite differently.
Would love to see you fly the P38 again.
Can do a series called "Mission: Survive"?With a A-10? Survive until reinforcements.
Read a thing where it said each 30mm shell was like a grenade going off.
I dont know if its possible but A-10 vs Me 262 would be great. Dog fight and ground targets..
Growling "Ben of Dover" Sidewinder 😂
I've been thinking of trying IL-2, how is the gameplay? It looks like fun. Love your videos. Have a Merry Christmas
Nice GS ned a guns against all comers now I would like to see the 262 against more modern jets just to see how it would do
Man, that was just... ...carnage!!! 😅😆😆😆
Almost as efficient as a warthog, which makes me wonder how the 262 and A10 would hold op h2h.
dang. those 30mm were deadly.
I love your Dr Evil laugh
Thank you so much GS for making this video I did asked for that two weeks ago and if I am not mistaking the first kill for Me262 was the mosquito over Hamburger German ❤❤❤
The mosquito was an excellent night fighter
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero when it first came out.
