I am a firm believer that the Halo 2 montage scene set the stage for what video game content has become today. It is quite literally the forefront of gaming content and the montages were the hottest thing at the time. Then COD came out, and I also played that and watched the VERY early COD montages which obviously took the montage content to a whole new level from like 2007-2011. I still wish I had my old family computer that had every single h2f montage downloaded onto it. That era generated some of my fondest memories with my friends as an early-era online console gamer. My buddies and I would have sleepovers and try to get enough decent clips to create a one-night dualtage good enough for Z to approve (we all know how stressful that was). What a time to be alive, you had to be a part of it to understand that H2 was the peak of online gaming.
@@TennisGvy Formal isn't outspoken or is going to emphasize anything to badmouth Ola. But he was given the choice and specifically said he thought the team is better with APG. I'm sure he put a lot of thought into that months before the choice.
I don’t see it as putting little thought into this move. I’m not so sure that every team change is handled this way but think about it, if you are bringing someone in and haven’t really determined who is the best option to drop I’d say the opinion of the person you are picking up should be considered heavily. I think all parties involved put more thought and consideration than what it seems on our end and in comparison to how it was communicated.
I think it's interesting hearing formal talk about halo 2. I totally agree, the ranking system used to require such work, and the numbers and symbols were really cool making it rewarding. When I think about it I feel like the clan matches and bungie leaderboards helped create the environment back then also. I don't know why they decided to remove all those awesome features and make the entire process as boring as possible. I feel like those features are what made halo 2 the type of game you could literally play every day and it never got old.
@@ElitheSensei yeah, maybe it’s just me but I feel like it made the environment really competitive and fun and it feels like that’s missing from modern halo. I feel like everybody knew the people at the top of the leaderboards back then. But you’re right, it seems to be an industry trend as a whole and I just don’t understand cause it was so many good memories for me personally.
Man we all miss montages don’t we, I know I’ve never had any of mine do well but I’m pretty bad so that makes sense, this was a fun episode, goats all around
Ahh the Halo 2 ranks. Love it. Getting 50 in Halo 3 and not playing the mode anymore to keep the General was OD as well. H2 and H3 ranking was toughhhh.
Thank you! Like Eli said we spend hours in voice chat to discuss the history and timelines of our guests to determine the best questions and flow. Glad you like it!
9:00 it’s surprising that even formal had to message pros to 1v1 to get noticed. Renegade talked about the hardest part of being a pro is networking and convincing people you’re good.
If there was a real montage contest that had the support and backing of the pro scene, you'd probably see more Infinite montages. Also who owns the Ambush brand now?
No, keep the shotty in. it's trash and weak compared to past games. or bring back the mauler. Damn pros want every weapon to be impossible to use unless you're pro.

Massive memories! We are trying to keep the memories alive while building new ones. Thanks for your support 🙏
Damn this just made me fire up all of my old favorites. GGs and thanks for supporting Tied the Leader 🙏🏼
Woah…hearing the story about him replacing Ola is really surprising. I didn’t realize that’s how they went about it
with how little thought got put into they could've just flipped a coin
That was my biggest take away from this episode. Surprising

Keep the content going this podcast is what the halo community needs. I'd like to hear from pistola as well if yall could get ahold of him
Got to love it, 3 goats sitting down swapping stories. Doesn't get much better

Glad you're enjoying them!!

Changes in priorities for game devs these days... I do miss the Halo 2 style ranking system, would be interesting to see how well it would do today

Clan matches would be still be fun. Need to bring that back
This was fantastic, thank you for your efforts
The response has been tremendous, thank you. Episode 6 drops tomorrow on Eli's channel featuring guest BOUND!

They really were the greatest
I've been begging for them to just put the h3 ranks in (with h2 symbols). Also i wouldnt mind if they had a champ rank above 50.
Love it! Like seeing more screen time for the pros/teams, etc.
I love this podcast! Huge thanks to you & Eli, the production assistants, and the amazing lineup of guests you've had so far!
Appreciate that. We put a lot into telling these stories
@@killsinthenight please keep it up!

As a casual, the sandbox is what makes halo different and exciting. Just speaking from my personal perspective of course.
Lovin these 🔥
Thanks for this vid!!
Love this podcast
This was a sick podcast
The best of all time
Formal is my FPS GOAT.
This is great content. Love it

Basically a rite of passage... nobody gets free chances!
love this content
Thanks for watching!
New drinking game: take a shot every time formal says “like”
He’s a Cali boy, we say like often 😂
They just need to make a dedicated HCS playlist that way ranked area can have way more variety
Doubt there's enough population for both. They can just add variety to ranked anyway. Comp can play customs.
Kampy got me into Halo 3. I somewhat followed MLG but what made me want to be great at the games was the Kampy and Apex montage.
did you say sHyRe was on his first team? he was one of my best friends in halo 2 and the only player that got me in pro games.

Heinz I'm pretty sure
Man I wonder if the optic team would’ve been even better if they had Ola instead of APG
Definitely. Ola, lucid, trippy and formal would’ve been a god squad.
I think it would have been different for sure, but also a squad capable of winning worlds that year

Separating Ranked and HCS is the go. Work with the pros to give them the balance and sandbox they want for HCS. Keep the variety in Ranked.
