This only makes one grateful that a person like Gerald Finzi lived and worked. The lovely playing on this is extremely moving. To the young high school freshman who said he was nervous.....don't be. Be proud that you discovered such wonderful music to perform. Good luck!
Wonderful and played so sensitively. I have taken up clarinet since August last year and I'm working on the Romance, Carol and Forlana at the moment. Lovely pieces. Finzi is a real find, if you don't already know it listen to Eclogue. Very beautiful.
We are indeed fortunate to have these Bagatelles in the repertoire and you play them wonderfully! I've decided to play the Carol at my mum's funeral soon, but as a solo. I see this was posted ten years ago, which somehow for me adds to the feeling of nostalgia and past loss... I hope you are still playing! Thanks for this.
i'm playing the Prelude for my grade 6 clarinet exam... this is amazing and i've just started learning it but i havent even gotten close to that standard, amazing.
I played the first and fourth movement last year to decide which band I would be for next year and holy crap your version sounds BEAUTIFUL like holy shit that was amazing
A wonderful interpretation Carolyn and Annette of this lovely piece. I'm playing the piano part for a clarinettist, and am glad he discovered the Finzi piece! Performing it at an informal concert tomorrow!
It took me about one semester to put everything together to make it recital-ready, while learning a chamber piece and three movement substantial work as well. It's not difficult to get under your fingers at all; it isn't technically challenging. I had to do some polishing and phrase work
Compositore decisamente originale e sempre i elevatissimo livello, conduce il clarinetto a punte espressive avvincenti, grazie a temi semplici e gradevoli. Queste bagatelle sono un insieme di "piccoli" capolavori.
I'm in the process of perfecting the Prelude- the ending is pretty difficult... This is a very useful and inspirational example of all five performed superbly! I especially love the Fughetta, thanks for this.
These lyrical pieces have always been a favorite of mine, and you, Carolyn, have given a fine performance of these "bagatelles" - kudos! You must be a student of Curt Blood, and if so, he has prepared you well for this recital - wish you the best with your career!
It depends on what type of ligature you have. My ligature (seen here) is a plastic Luyben liguature, and it is designed to have the screws away from the reed. Since making this video, I have switched to a Yuan Gao ligature made out of gold, leather, and carbon fiber. My new ligature is amazing and has affected my tone and ease of playing greatly! I would recommend finding a reverse ligature like this one, that is not metal and has a single screw.
Not many female clarinet players playing on TH-cam lately. Have to go back from 2 years ago to get my fill. Might have to fall in love with a flute player.
What else did you play for your recital?? I am playing this piece for my senior as well as Mozart clarinet concert, Francic Poulenc's clarinet sonata, and adagio Tarantella by Cavallini. Great job!

thank you, I am currently in that situation, playing this song on bass clarinet for a statewide competition.

jamace6 bless your kind soul
jamace6 all I have to say is that you’re a beautiful person
I love playing the clarinet, what a beautiful piece, for one week ago I have never heard of Finzi, what a beautiful music.
He has a concerto as well that is much more challenging but great. I like the Bagatelles because they're simple but really very sweet.
I think she plays beautifully! Such wonderful tone, especially in the top of the higher register. Amazing.

i had to play Forlana for my grade 5, but here it sounds so amazing! I hope to be as good as you one day :)
I played the first and fourth movement last year to decide which band I would be for next year and holy crap your version sounds BEAUTIFUL like holy shit that was amazing

My son won 1st prize with this first piece. :) Love this one. Thanks!
I did Fughetta for my solo piece for solo and ensemble this year. Such a great piece of music, especially with all five movements :D
One of the best performances of this piece on youtube. Excellent sound quality and articulation. Great phrasing and beautifully played.Well done!
Absolutely amazing! I love Gerald Finzi!
Thank you! I bowed at the end.

I'm pracitcing this piece for auditions for college and it is my favorite piece I've played it's so pretty and fun
I love this piece- thank you for sharing your work- I listen to this several times a week,
Compositore decisamente originale e sempre i elevatissimo livello, conduce il clarinetto a punte espressive avvincenti, grazie a temi semplici e gradevoli.

+Antonio Fabi Effettivamente è molto aggraziato.
I'm in the process of perfecting the Prelude- the ending is pretty difficult... This is a very useful and inspirational example of all five performed superbly! I especially love the Fughetta, thanks for this.
I will be playing this for my practicum performance this semester. Hearing this helped me out
Learning this on viola right now, thank you for having the entire song cycle up! It's a good point of reference to look at phrasing/breath spots. :)

I'm in my first year of college and I will be performing the Prelude in January! This video has helped out so much. Thanks. 💖
Thank You Donald for your comments

Lovely playing!
well done- lovely playing..
Lovely playing, Carolyn.
Round of a plause 👏👏👏
Thank you, I totally love the piece and wish I could hear you play it with the strings arrangement :)

this is beautiful. i have the same piece and have been attemping to play with you-impossible!
Beautiful :)
Incredible
No not impossible at all! Just go at your own pace and gradually increase. :D
I have to play the prelude next tuesday on my exam.. this is a really nice version btw :)
the fugetta is the most difficult piece i’ve ever had to play
The piano part of the fughetta is very tricky too, at the prescribed tempo.
Im 13 and i love playing this piece i am doing it for my grade 6
I'm doing it for grade 5
Bloody overachievers. I played this when I was in grade 10.
Still impressive that you're doing it at this age though. Keep it up.
they"re talking about AMEB exam grades
im doing grade 6 in june
its a grade 5 piece
3:35
Cool, I like them all, but 1 and 5 are my favorites
Wonderful rare pieces, beautifully played, despite the badly recorded piano.
Not many female clarinet players playing on TH-cam lately. Have to go back from 2 years ago to get my fill. Might have to fall in love with a flute player.
Thank you :)
beautiful sound, amazing richness of tone colours and pretty clarinetist, perhaps ;)
thanks a lot!!!
Help me on the Australian AMEB exam!!!
@claribassist13 thank you very much
Im playing this in like 3 months, my senior year is only in two years
Do you have the score???
I would say that the Fughetta is highly technically challenging.
I clapped at the end! XD
What else did you play for your recital?? I am playing this piece for my senior as well as Mozart clarinet concert, Francic Poulenc's clarinet sonata, and adagio Tarantella by Cavallini. Great job!

@th3mu5ical0n3 Finzi wrote it for the piano and Clarinet would be equal
I am playing Romance for a solo, and I was wondering if you had any advice for when I play?
Does it make a difference where you fasten the ligature? I see she tightens it over the front, but I tighten it on the reed. ('?')
I'm playing this for solo and ensemble- im.the only freshman clarinet I know of playing a class 1 solo- I'm so scared
I’m playing this as my 10th grade NYSSMA solo 😩
*11th
most good piano players have shapiro as last name :l i'm playing this now and hopefully i will do well...i'm only in 8th grade
o.O university senior concert?...
Masses of Poulenc and Francaix in this. A bit fast.
Aw shucks... Thank you! This comment made me blush hahhaah x_x
@@didoncere oui
Does anyone else hear the Star wars theme in the Romance?? lol
+SailorVVV in effetti ha delle somiglianze
totally
@th3mu5ical0n3
funny, I would say the opposite.

gotta work on fughetta a bit more.
