Appreciate your attention to detail. I never really thought about spool size affecting reel speed and the amount of line on the spool causing more line to be looped. Thanks for the fresh perspective .
i am old school with newer equipment...cranks i use 5:1:1 but in summer ok with 6:3:1 jerk bait like 7:1 some spinnerbaits 5:1 to 6:3 cant hardly find 5:1 anymore so i buy all i can find out of paranoia. Crankbait fishing is my best technique and i swear by David Fritts teachings. And it works for me.
I live near you and Chickamauga is my home lake as well. I always have people telling me that I use the wrong reel. I'm right handed and use left hand bait casters. I think it's more fluid to not have to switch hands after each cast. And most right handed people reel with their left on a spinning reel. So why switch that on a caster? But, the retailer and even manufacturer doesn't have as many options on left handed casters. Good luck in the tournament.
I'm lefty as well. Good info. Don't laugh, but I still have 2 Shimano green curados that are 3.8 : 1 that I use in the winter for A Rigs and summer deep cranking. Of my 10 casting reels in my boat, they are all 7 ish : 1. I don't own an 8 :1 or above.
finnally got info on what I have, 6.3:1 baitcaster reel. thanks
