I bought the 460ah Essentials a few months ago for my small Class C. Its fantastic. The bluetooth phone app works great, it fits under the stairs, and it starts my generator no prob.
@arriagada1957 Easy. My generator pulls 150 amps to start the starter motor, then drops to 75 amps to run the starter motor. The battery is rated for 400 amps for 10 seconds, and 200 amps constant. Its a great battery, and the app is awsome.
Question for you: what type of class C do you have ? I just purchased a new Entegra 26M. I could not fit the Epoch 300AH in the step compartment. Or did you modify it? I could modify the step area if I cut out angle iron members Jayco welded up to the frame and rebuilt it. But I am waiting since it is only a month old.
@anthonyb2334 Congrats on the purchace thats great! Mine is a 2017 Adventurer. Its 23 feet bumper to bumper, on a Ford E350 base. I got lucky i guess it fits perfectly. You could rewire it to one of the storage areas in the back, though thats extra work. To be honest, if you go that way get the 460ah. Its well worth it.
You mentioned the marine 460’s fuse and implied it was for overcurrent protection. At 500a, it wouldn’t be good for overcurrent protection for any battery cables used on an RV or boat (2/0 or 4/0 105F wires). The purpose of that internal fuse is for short circuit protection of the electronics in the battery but, fortunately, it will also protect the battery cables for short circuits, as well. A second fuse is needed of appropriate rating for overcurrent protection of the wiring on the marine 460. So far, I really like the 300DP (and 120DP) for its networking and Victron interoperability (not just display comms to GX like the marine 460). I’m a little disappointed that you (or others) haven’t identified the cells used or said much about the BMS configurability. Still, a nice review of what I think will be a great battery.
Thank you Brian, excellent video. I just downsized from a Class A gasser to a small class C. No good places to put the 300AH battery unless I lose some of the limited exterior storage. I have been impressed with Epoch, and purchased two 105AH from them ( that’s all I could fit under the step). I know most if not all these parts are Chinese, but think it’s assembled in the US. I’m sure someone will chime in if I’m mistaken. Thank you again
When I had a Class C, I ended up taking over one of those high-value storage compartments and filling it with batteries. I think the batteries are designed and supported by EPOCH in Georgia, then RowPow builds them in China.
I thought when you said 'Victron Communication', you meant it would connect to a Victron BMS... but I suppose the internal and external BMS's would conflict since each one would want to take control of the operations required. Just a side note about Victron batteries and BMS's... they will be phasing out the current batteries and BMS's over time, as they implement the NG(Next Generation... but since its in play now, it should stand for New Generation... anyway...)... They have moved most management functions into the external BMS, and have much smaller boards inside to handle what needs to be handled IN the battery... but the real BMS is external. The idea is, they switched from analogue to digital communication, so instead of the battery sending vague warnings to the BMS, like over-voltage condition, or over temp, etc... the batteries now send the actual values to the BMS, so it can better tailor its operation for the precise condition being evaluated and compensated for. AND... bonus feature...This change, because digital signals don't degrade over distance like analogue signals do, you can now manage 50 batteries from one BMS, rather than the old limit of 20, plus, (with both the new and old BMS's), you can now parallel 5 BMS's... meaning you can have 250 batteries in your bank, all precisely controlled by the external BMS's. (None of this 4s4p max of some brands, or even as you said here, 16 batteries max.) OH.. also... the term "smart', is not in the name of the new batts, since they provide ALL data to the external BMS, you simply get that info from the BMS, rather than having to connect to each battery separately to get its readout. That said, not everyone wants to spend the $$$ that Victron charges for their batteries, and so, even though it doesn't offer any control over the battery from the GX, it does at least populate the battery monitoring function of the GX.
I have been looking at these over the 460ah ones due to the dual purpose. My Jayco Seneca has the ability to use the house battery if the chassis battery is dead to start the engine. There are not many dual purpose batteries out there, they are either crank or storage, but not both. So this is a nice option I have been investigating. One thing I would like to see is how the over current protection operates in a parallel and serial battery configuration since how the batteries see the electrical load will be different.
I just bought the ECOFLOW 100amp class 27 battery and it has a 300 amp for 30 seconds. Hoping this will start my 5500 onan . It’s made really well and was 227 dollars off amazon. It’s a deep cycle marine trolling battery. Bad thing it doesn’t have bluetooth
The non "Dual-Purpose" version of this battery from Epoch is $500 cheaper than this $1500 battery. There is no benefit to 800-1000 cranking amps for an RV battery. If you are using it for a motorhome, perhaps this battery would have a use (although overpriced for an engine-starter/house battery, cheaper to have a cheap lead-based battery for just starting the rig's engine), but the vast majority of RVers don't have motorhomes and the battery in practical equivalency from Epoch, their 12V 300aH with 200A (continuous) 400A (peak) for 2/3 the price of this battery is definitely the wiser choice for RVers.
Great Video I always have to fight the urge to upgrade to a different battery. I use a SOK 280 ahr in my class A motorhome. I was worried about it having the amps to starting my Onan 5500 generator. It is rated at 200 amp continuous and 250 amp surge for 7.5 seconds and it starts up the generator just fine.
Yeah. I'm sure it starts fine. I hear you though about upgrading. The tech has evolved very fast over the last few years. People ask me, why I don't replace my bank that I installed 3 years ago. I respond "why?" they work great, but without all the fancy stuff these have.
@@RVwithTito I think the Anker SOLIX F3800 with the 50 AMP plug setup would be cool to use as home battery backup then be able to roll it out to my RV and use it as the inverter/battery in my RV when I go on trips. I just wish it wasn't over 130 lbs making the install each time kind of painful. It also doesn't have the hybrid option like a Victron inverter to adjust the draw from shore power/battery/solar as desired.
They have a partnership with RoyPow to produce them. I believe EPOCH is involved in the design and provides support. RowPow builds and packages them. This is my understanding anyway.
I am curious if this battery can be charged from a diesel Motorhome alternator without damaging the alternator. Most lithium batteries need some type of isolation from the alternator to prevent the alternator from being damaged. This battery would be a game changer for me if that was possible. does anybody know if this is a possibility?
ANY IDEAS? I'M looking for a good lithium power station that has a 30amp outlet, can be powered by solar, 110 or 12 while driving. Im getting rid of my ONAN onboard generator that is mounted UNDER my rv. its a pain to service & im tired of the exhaust pipe being so low. ANY IDEAS? THANKS!
Hard to say. Lots of folks have an ECOFLOW Delta Pro (amzn.to/4fkI7GO), but there are several others priced between $1500 - $3000. It depends on your budget, what you plan to run, and for how long. The battery capacity on these aren't that great, which is why many are offering expansion batteries. For example, if you plan on running an A/C with one, then it will eat through your battery quickly. I'd also recommend one that can use any solar panel with MC4 connectors. You don't want to be stuck having to buy the manufacturer's solar panels. Not sure if this helps. There are lots of folks reviewing power stations here on YT like @Hobotech that review tons of power stations. Not sure where he keeps them all. Good luck!
Hi, I noticed the new UI on the phone. Does this actually go through the internet to the VRM? I find to get that UI on my android tablet I have to "reboot" the Cerbo GX and when it comes back up it have the new UI as a choice. However if reload or launch the Victron Connect app after booting down or go out of it and back it, it does not launch the UI but the "old"... pb
Yes. I'm using an old Color Control GX with a busted screen. So the only way to control it is remotely through VRM. I can use the buttons, but have no screen. Pretty funny. I've also had to re-select the new UI a couple times when accessing through VRM. Not sure why.

That thing looks about twice the size of the 304Ah I built using 4x EVE LF304 cells & JK BMS.

Thanks. Yeah. I agree. Batteries have come a long way.
Wow that thing is big. It would be nice if it smaller.
Group 8D is pretty big. I'm sure there are lots of reasons to stick to a standard size so that they are a drop in replacement.

I think there is a problem with that one not being able to power the 50A output while its charging.
Is Epoch just rebranded RoyPow chinese batteries?
A lot of these batteries are various production cycles from the same factories.

Likes like it may be good for my class a pusher to replace my house battery and work with the battery boost if I need it
Could be. I wasn't sure how it would work with my 20yo stock alternator for charging. Probably fine, but I don't have the room for it.
Different cell density. There are two common-sized cells on the market. That's how Li Time etc have Mini versions.
I was surprised to see 12 cells.
