Not to mention Brazil is already a member of BRICS, hence the name and there are other countries that are looking into joining BRICS as well. Don't get too comfortable thinking that it couldn't happen with Mexico in 10 or 20 years if Trump keeps pushing our alliances away. If you travel out of the USA, it is only the countries you enter that put any restrictions on you. American borders don't stop anybody leaving, so why should Trump expect others countries to somehow restrict who leaves their countries? I am not sure if Trump realizes that 23% of all oil refined in the US is Canadian oil. There are 1000s of jobs on the line for gulf coast states and billions in profits. Canadian oil is one of the cheapest in the world to buy, and the profits made from refining it are much higher than profits made on other oil types because of how cheap it is to buy.

    • @john_doe_not_found
      @john_doe_not_found 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

Canada is a captive market. They have not bothered to build pipeline capacity to ship their products to other nations other than us. So we get rock bottom prices on Canadian oil, because Canada has no choice but to sell to us. If Canada is motivated to sell to Europe or Asia, and actually builds the infrastructure.. then once this is all over, even if the tariffs are removed, Canada will then have the infrastructure to sell to other places other than America. And then our prices will go up because Canadian oil will be forever trading at a higher price point.
This is just shooting ourselves in the foot.

The cost per barrel of oil drilling in Canada varies depending on the type of project:
New greenfield oil sands mine: Costs around $85-$95 per barrel
Steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project: Costs around $55-$65 per barrel
Expansion of an existing SAGD facility: Costs about $5 per barrel less than a new SAGD project

@@nimitpatel1233 I just looked up average selling price for CWS (canadian western select).. and it is cheaper than every other oil on the list of 30 or so different oils.
It might cost 27/barrel to produce middle eastern oil, but they don't sell it for that price. They have wide profit margins.
Canadian oil might cost a lot to produce, but their profit margins must be super tiny.
example: Today a barrel of cws is selling for $56/barrel, but the stuff from dubai is selling for $72/barrel.
Canadians just don't make much money on what they sell, because America is the only buyer. But if that changed and there were more buyers, the Canadians would get better prices.

USD is 20 times more valuable than Mexican peso, do you really think that the cartel is funded only with Mexican money?, the cartel wealthiness comes from a very large customer / consumer base in the US, question, how does that money in cash comes back to Mexico thru the border under the US watch?, also, 70% of the firearms that the Cartel posses come from the US, what are the border patrol agents doing to make the cartel less war equipped?

A lot of it is raw products like cow hides and raw plastic pellets, electronic components, and things that go into their Manufacturing that ultimately comes back to the US. And some of that is prepaid American Products but some of it is Mexican in foreign companies within Mexico that manufactured goods that come back into the United States. And I think the bigger fear is that Trump is going to drive Canada and Mexico to do even more business with China and then Mexico could possibly have good Financial incentives in the future to let China build a military or Naval Base in Mexico. There's a lot of countries that are wanting to join BRICS and Trump is further pushing a lot of those countries in that direction. It may not happen now or in the next couple years but if this continues it could very well happen in 5 or 10 years

They never talk about the trade off of the tariff. Tens of millions of people moving into the U.S. has an economic impact on American taxpayers. It has an impact on prices via competition for goods and services, it has an impact on the healthcare system, our insurance rates, etc.
We already know Mexico dispersed a migrant caravan due to the tariff threat. So while prices for certain goods may increase due to tariff, what is the overall trade off of not having an endless hoard of people flooding into the country and straining local economies, healthcare, housing, crime, inflation, etc.

    • @adamhose9632
      @adamhose9632 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

It's more than just prices of goods it's the potential for Canada and Mexico to do start doing more business with other countries. In particular China. Since Trump's First Trade War China has greatly increased their footprint in Mexico. And there's concerns that in the next 5 or 10 years not only will Mexico probably start buying some of their military supplies from China but in 10 to 15 years China could put a military base in Mexico. And Trump is pushing more and more countries to consider BRICS and when you combine that with Trump snubbing a lot of NATO members, it can further isolate us. And yes I know the first-hand experience about how immigrants can cause lower wages for US workers and lower housing value in communities with high immigration population. However a lot of these immigrants have come into lower-income areas in big cities like Chicago and Kansas City and have built up communities that were slowly being abandoned. And I've been a truck driver for 30 years and I've been to every Bordertown hundreds of times and I can tell you the Bordertown despite some rough years during the Mexican president Fox drug war, overall the Border towns are much more prosperous and safer than what they were 30 and 40 years ago when I used to be down in that area. It's beneficial for the United States to have economically prosperous Neighbors, not push them away.

@ a well managed immigration system can be great for a country, no doubt. The U.S. doesn’t have that at the moment though. So as the system currently exists, the tariffs may provide a net benefit to the American taxpayer versus a net loss like they’re projecting in this segment without discussing the economic consequences of a horrendous immigration system as a whole.
As for pushing Canada and Mexico to trade with China, you can combat that by implementing even higher tariffs against China, Canada and Mexico, as well other nations trading with them, in order to isolate them entirely.
The reality is that it’s large American corporations, like Nike for example, exploiting cheap foreign labor markets in order to juice profits at home. The American people, especially Left-leaning politics, can’t have it both ways. If you’re against the exploitation of people, then you can’t be against tariffs because prices might rise.
It’s really a failure of the American, and the America media, to inform/understand why products from Asia and Mexico are cheaper than if they’re made here in the U.S.

Heritage foundation guy is funded by big US companies who have factories in Mexico and don't want tariffs, because it means they'll be forced to return manufacturing to the US and no longer get slave labor. GM makes Chevy trucks in Mexico and the US. The worker in Mexico making trucks gets 2 dollars per hr, but both trucks are sold in the US for the same price. The union labor to build the chevy truck in the US is 2500 dollars per truck. Trump's 25% tariff on a 75K truck entering the US would be 18,750 dollars. This is what GM will pay to bring it here and put on their lots. This would make the truck cost 93,750 dollars and nobody will pay that much. They'll just buy a US made truck that doesn't have the tariff and costs less. GM will be forced to close their Mexico plants and move them back to the US, which will mean more high paying jobs for us. All the other car companies will also move production to the US to avoid the tariff. It's the same thing with washing machines and other things. We still have a bunch of factories making washing machines in the US, and people will just buy them and not pay the higher price for the ones that have a tariff. They keep saying that the tariffs will just be passed on to the consumer, but that's not true. Maybe if we lived on an island and didn't have factories making things , they'd be able to force us to pay the tariffs through higher prices, but we have US factories in the US making cars and washing machines etc. We also have farms growing produce. If the tariffs were really gonna be paid by US consumers, then Mexico and Canada would not be shtting their pants right now and complaining. These tariffs will mean that they can't sell much of their things here anymore. Trudeau put a 200% on US drywall a few years ago, and we couldn't sell one sheet there because it made it so expensive the builders wouldn't buy it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. I hope Trump enacts those 25% tariffs, and I hope he keeps them his whole term, so that we can force these companies to return manufacturing to the US.

I can't see any other way that Western countries can pay off their national debts. Without the massive population increases of the last 100 years, and/or the economies provided by computers since the 1970s, I can't see any other way, other than crushing austerity programs.
As long as the tariffs are just on luxury and non-essential products they are not inflationary and are a better way of targeting the rich than income taxes. They are hated by rich capitalists, but they do rein in consumerism. And in the USA, where a lot of their exports are in media, essential products and invisible earnings, a tariff war is something they are going to win. The USA imports about $3Trillion worth of goods annually. Tariffs represent a non-inflationary untapped revenue stream, to offset their debt, which they can't afford to ignore. It is also one which the bankers, retailers, corrupt officials and financiers find it difficult to profit from, which is why we all experience more or less continuous propaganda against them.

As a Canadian, I am livid Trump would pull such a bullying stunt as this.
Sadly, I had been a strong supporter of his until now.
    Where does it end ?
Does he threaten to economically destroy his major trading partners and friends if they don’t bend to his will on whatever he chooses ?!
You don’t threaten and bully friends before even picking up the damn phone on his first day and asking we work together to solve mutual problems.
It will certainly hurt Canadians but I will remind you 10 million Americans earn their living on Canadian funds.
Canada has endured years of drugs and illegal firearms flooding into the country. Not once did they stoop to threatening to destroy their neighbour to the south.
This tactic may satisfy his base, make them feel strong, and may work in the short term, but people have long memories when they’ve been bullied by “friends”.
While I’d admit there is a problem on the northern border that fairly should be addressed, it is not large enough on the northern border to divide our nations and manageable. (Both nations are at fault btw) There are zero drug issues north to south.
We trade on level playing fields, have always been fair to one another and remained the best of friends till this point.
I’d still support Trump but this is absolutely juvenile.
It’s not the “American way” I’ve long admired.

But you are assuming that the consumer will buy these things from Canada and Mexico, which will be more expensive. We still have factories in the US that make washing machines and cars that we can buy cheaper due to no tariff. The US consumer won't be hurt by these tariffs, we'll be helped by them. Once these companies have a 25% tariff to bring their stuff into the US to sell, they'll be moving their production to the US to avoid paying the tariff in order to remain competitive.

In 2009 MX auto sector export was 30 billion now it is 136 billion out of that 100 billion export is to USA which was just 20 billion in 2009… so in 12 years export to USA grown by 5 times or around 20% every year and Us GDP grown at 3% then from where 17% growth came ? It’s came from American companies mfg in Mexico…
In 2009 MX GDP was 900 MM and export to USA was 180 BN
In 2023 MX GDP is 1.4 trillion and export to usa nearly 500 billion… so out of total 500 billion dollar growth more than 300 billion dollar growth came from USA 😅😅😅
US GDP increase by 80% in same period but Max to US export increase by 150%
      Same is true for Canada
Forget about all those things Vietnam export 100 billion worth good to USA and UsA export only 10 billion dollar… all those are Chinese companies… last 10 years Vietnam growth = 80% of export to UsA 😂😂
