  • I firmly believe every flight has a story to tell and and many learning experiences along the way. This flight had stories, laughter and learning. It also had cause to turn back, twice. We had prepared well for the flight, checked the weather and had planned our fuel and navigation. Viz may have looked poor but well with limits with an odd shower around.
Attempt one raised a comms issue which we fixed after landing back at base. Attempt two failed only a few miles from the destination as all parties were not happy to continue. It was a little gusty from the South West but nothing major. Sligo Airport has its own little micro climate and the high ground, trees and shore can give some minor surprises, ones which we knew to expect. We opted to request the south join to LH downwind 10 to keep clear of terrain and turbulence. The pop up TAF left us a little cautious and we didn't want to be caught out. We would have been fine as the actual wind on the runway was only about 5 knots.
Regardless we had a great flight and enjoyed getting aloft. On departing Snug Beag we had declined Ingrids packed lunch but were delighted to eat on our return. We finished off the afternoon by walking the raised bog at Girley.

JP, In no way was that a 'failed mission' Superb airmanship and decision making from start to finish. You were missed at the breakfast but always another day. Not an easy decision to turn back as we know if there's any doubt there's no doubt. Kudos on such a clean aircraft.

Yes, very easy to succumb to get-there-itis. We were looking forward to catching up with all you D4 and City folk. There will be lots of days.
