Shelter specifically is 5%. In reality costs to landlords have gone up double digits including for insurance, property tax, strata fees, management fees, etc.
If the NDP introduce rent control, that'll reduce rental stock even more, as landlords will say "enough is enough" and sell their units to owner occupiers.
Funny part I learned from this stuff is that I'm strange and have always bought a condo to live in not to be a landlord. I always thought a condo is great because no maintenance to do and I just lock the door and have no worries when I go on vacation or visit relatives. But it seems most condos are owned by investors and nobody wants to own them to live in themselves long term? But if the gov wages war on landlords then who will step in to rent them to people that just want to live in them for a couple of years or need to save up for downpayment? It's too bad but i am totally psyched out to buy a small condo as an investment, it looks like the deck is stacked against me as a prospective landlord and i need to find other places to get my money working for me?

And it looks like the ndp will likely win, which means the beatings will continue until morale improves (for the majority of ppl) Ppl should really have to pass a test - proving understanding of various levels of govt and their respective responsibilities + basic economics - to vote
