I can't wait to play a Warforged Barbarian who is really gentle and friendly and just wants to make friends, but then goes into a terrifying "Rage Mode" in high stress situations that they can't necessarily control. Sorta a merging of Baymax and Bastion, personality wise.
I would really like that PC to be like EMET from Evolve. It's very reminiscent of PTSD. But not just. It's over the top enough to be amusing. But tragic enough to be endearing.
Great concept, but as a DM, I've run this, and they also attack allies in this Rage Mode. Don't do that, nobody at the table actually enjoyed it, or thought it was interesting. Rage Mode is where you hone in on someone and don't stop till they're dead or someone has specifically told you to stop. Have a 'safe word' that gets you out of that state and tell your team mates what that safeword is. Seriously, it will be so important to not do PvP "because you can't control yourself". There's items for that, they are called cursed, speak to your DM about getting you that one, don't grab the curse up for yourself. The players were partially just straight up glad when the PC died because of a sequence of really bad rolls in escaping a collapsing dungeon.

It's not a very bad deal or anything, but a lot of people aren't happy that it isn't a book and doesn't have Mystics or Artificers. But hey, Mike Mearls is working on a revised Artificer, so that's nice.

Vicarious Shopper the message from wotc is clear: you want a new class? Make it yourself. They don't want to multiply classes like pathfinder and i'm with them on that. I mean, Pathfinder is great, but with their like 60 books and 20+ classes, sometimes the system can be abuse buy players. Keep the game simple and let the player customise it.

I'm interested in the Shifters, I wonder what sort of abilities they get like advantage or expertise on wisdom perception checks that rely on smell? Maybe teeth and claw attacks? And we get Personas/Stands, which is always a good thing.
I'm planning on making a Kalashtar Bard of Whispers/Glamour, I really liked them in 4e and I'm excited to try them again. I really want to make a Kalashtar Bard of Glamour that basically has high as balls persuasion and performance, so that he basically is the go to guy to be diplomatic. OR The Kalashtar Bard of Whispers with maxxed out Intimidate who uses his psionic capabilities to sow fear and doubt in a crowd, using his telepathic abilities to gaslight people and subtly manipulate the political scene by messing with people.

It's somewhat basic but yes, Yuan-Ti originally come from the Continent of Sarlona, which is the same continent that Humans originally came from, but the Yuan-Ti were eventually forced out of Sarlona by the Reidra, which is the big Empire that rules most of Sarlona, and most of the surviving Yuan-Ti rebuilt their society on the Jungle Continent of Xendrik, but some enclaves might be secretly living on the other continents. Typically race doesn't effect alignment like it does in D&D settings, which is why it's totally valid to have a super friendly Black Dragon Ally while having an absolutely reprehensible Gold Dragon Antagonist in Eberron, but the Yuan-Ti are noted to be more consistently evil than most other races in the setting, but that might be societal thing.
given the rumoured backwards compatibility between 6th and 5th edition, I am kinda hoping they hold off on this until the early days of 6e so we begin that addition with a great start.

In fact, if I had to guess, we might see something more akin to 5.5e with slight revisions of rules they weren’t completely happy with. As a player it feels like cheating, and as a DM I don't want to give too much away or I want the guide to be ambivalent to the players' well being (like the White Orb from Wyrmwick, to give an obscure example).
I'm not surprised. This has been a huge trend in the industry lately. When the largest publishers can print their playtest material and people *will* buy it. For examples see the new edition of Traveler, Star Wars (which did it three times), and Pathfinder. Also, remember 5th edition published *two concept books* more than a year before the free playtest started.
To be fair, both Pathfinder 1e and this new edition are still free PDF downloads, they are just offering printed versions as collectors items basically.
Big strikeout for D&D in 2018. Tired of Forgotten Realms, we get two more books. Then we get a tcg setting and a pdf. We got Mordenkainen's that was ok but I had to return it twice due to quality issues. I've owned everything since 5e came out then they release 4 products in a row I have no interest in. Anything but this. If they would have released Eberron as a hardcover there would have been one product I would have bought. And no, I don't need a redone older system necessarily, a brand new interesting setting would have been ok, but keep MtG out please. It is not a new setting.

So I checked the Unearthed Arcana page on the DnD website and this setting is playtest content as are the races
