10. Melaka Riverside Walking Tour / Y SQUARE channel
The path along the Malacca River (Sungai Melaka) is the signature running spot in Melaka. Continually being developed and improved, the River Walk is filled with cafes, shops, and river cruise shops. There are also murals on the walls of some of the historic homes lining the river. The surface is a mix of concrete, brick, and occasional wooden boardwalks.
Melaka River is also known as the ‘Venice of the East’. Those Europeans who travelled along Melaka River started to call it as the ‘Venice of the East’ and it has historical importance in trading and other such activities.
The riverside eateries are also a pleasant sight along the Melaka river. Many restaurants have taken full advantage of the river and provided seating with gorgeous views of the river and the surrounding areas.
At night, as you cruise down the river, the symphony of live bands performing in bars ring out through the night, creating an ambience that is nostalgic and authentic to Melaka.
