Awesome video. Id like to see some more slow pan shots. Its nice to be able to just admire the corals. Candid convo is good. Thanks for sharing Good music!
I usually don't like long videos but when they are as interesting as is this one you made, I can easily spend even more time watching this videos cause we learn from this guy that is a guru in the hobby, Thank you! Jake great work
OMG that system is gorgeous and he's a natural reef keeper after my own heart. Once your system stabilizes get rid of the mechanical filtration to allow the natural development of plankton. Your SPS will thank you;)
I know he runs his alk higher than natural seawater, around 10 to 11dkh. Nitrates are somewhat high due to all the fish and the phosphates can't be too low since he has to feed so much.
Having problems with montipora cap growth. I have great polyp extension but no signs of growth. All parameters are good and running t5/metal halides 250w. What would you suggest
In these colorful reefs the also colorful fishes are not a contrast anymore like in the past of saltwater tanks. I'm using only white, dead corals so the contrast is a real punch. My tank is very clean and bright. And they are easy to keep. If they become green from algeas, I do them in the dishwascher and one hour later they are looking very nice again. I would also keep living, white stone corals but they are very rare and hard too keep. The only living corals I have are a white, pumping Xenia and two white Sinularia for a more natural look. Also I have a nice, green Caulerpa for contrast.
Does his coral or any home reef corals spawn? Is that a thing? I just watched a blue planet and watch coral in the wild do it, I was curious. If home reefs do this/ can they/ do you really what it to? The movie did say the ocean MUST be a precise temp. Sorry for the format of my questions. Im very new to all of this...
CUBAN REEFER I imagine the sheer size of the tank helps. With tangs it seems adding them at the same time helps. Adding one once the other has established it's territory is harder.
Salty Doug it didn't work for my tangs , I put three at the same time and little by little they kill each other until the last two adults the strongest kill the other one and now am down to one am keeping it there, Thank you! Thought for the education information we all learn something new every day.
When the Great Barrier Reef finishes bleaching, we will need his tank to remind everyone what a reef is!
Kids, This is what a master reef keeper looks like
when you have $6k+ just in lighting...tank is incredible
@Sweet James where? Quality matters. Has it lasted?
This is one of the best tanks I've ever seen. And Jake one of your best videos.
This has to be one of the most beautiful tanks of not the most beautiful I’ve ever seen xx
Nice humble guy and great tank, would have liked to have seen sump and what he uses to keep all the hard corals going.
He explains it. Only a super efficient protein skimmer
That blue sps coral and the bandit angelfish are so sweet!! Beautiful!
I miss you jake . You have been such a pleasure to watch & learn from 🙏
You know you're a reef nerd when you watch both videos lol
Lmao did the same thing too, right after Hurricane Irma wiped 3 of my tanks.

Nice idea of short and long version.
Great video!! Amazing tank!
Very beautiful tank but would look even better and more natural if there was some open sections of sandbed!

Hey Jake where does Sanjay keep his ALK/NO3 and PO4 at?
I know he runs his alk higher than natural seawater, around 10 to 11dkh. Nitrates are somewhat high due to all the fish and the phosphates can't be too low since he has to feed so much.
Enjoyed it!

I would definitely double check your magnesium levels, Montipora is really sensitive to low Mg
Reef Builders thanks
