    I've been doing this for years with a self healing mat!!!, not very magic when you know how and what to use! I bet this costs more than a self healing mat too, it's amazing what you can charge when you change the name of a simple product that already exists! X

      Actually, I purchased a self healing mat that my husband cut into 2 pieces for me to use in my Gemini Jr. It worked fine for a while but then not only did it warp (bend) but it warped in the middle of the plates with big bubbles. I was no longer able to use them! I am really doubting that this going to be any better. I heard of another type of mat that I saw somewhere (unfortunately, I don't remember where) that was guarantee not to warp. Made out of some different type of material. It was pricey, but if it works, I would rather spend my money on that one (if I can find it)! I will wait to see how long this one lasts with my friends.

      I am happy to see I am not the only one having trouble. My mat did the same thing. I’ve only had it since this Christmas season and already isn’t cutting. I followed the article that was posted here and it doesn’t help at all.
      It basically just gives advice to make sure you have a good sandwich (which most of us do) and it also says to check your shims on your machine.
      Guess what? my machine works perfect with the two plastic plates. So yeah.. not good.

    As it seems there’s little to no response to our queries to this Y.T.’r, I put this question to any and all who may have tried this product: I’d like to know if this mat is COMPARABLE to SELF-HEALING mats we find in craft stores or fabric stores? Is it stiff? Is it rubbery? I W O U L D very much like to find a fairly flexy kind of mat. - 2 actually - to use as a sandwich with my BigShot, on its base plate. After watching another TH-camr who promoted the idea of using a combination of “standard” cutting plates PLUS cut-to-size VINYL SHEETING. The number of vinyl sheet layers depends on the thickness required needed to make the dies cut the paper. I’ve been VERY impressed with the results I’ve had with this lady’s findings. Apparently, all this time, what we all needed to achieve clean cuts from our dies, was a cushier surface for the die’s sharp edges to embed into. Rotating and flipping is still required, but I think this will help to maintain the r e l a t i v e flatness of our plates. My question still stands, though, about the Magic Mat, because part of my BigShot sandwich includes a couple of flexy cutting pads.

    • @CatGetsCrafty
      @CatGetsCrafty 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Wow, it's been a year and NO ONE has responded to your query?! I would say that the mat is similar to self-healing mats you might find elsewhere. However, it is much thicker than my Olfa self-healing mat that I use when I sew. The mat is somewhat stiff, but you could still bend it. I would say not rubbery. The dies DO cut into the mat slightly. I use two magic mats in my Spellbinders Platinum because the mats are not the same size (length & width) as my base, and if I only use 1 magic mat, then my top layer (the Spellbinders clear plate) wants to warp. It works better if I lay the two magic mats side by side to cover my entire base plate. I hope this makes sense.

    • @kkrolf2782
      @kkrolf2782 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CatGetsCrafty Many thanks for responding! Since my initial query I’ve been using 2 sheets of Joann’s heaviest vinyl, cut to match the size of the cutting plates of my Sizzix BigShot Plus (wide platform), and changing them out as needed (due to the cuts they have to endure). In the year plus I’ve been using this set up, my clear plates are no worse for wear from cuts, and show NO signs of WARPING! Yes, I DO go through a set of vinyl sheets about (I’d say) every 6th time I cut a couple of dozen or more diecuts. That may seem a major waste of resources, however, with paper crafting seemingly “falling out of favor” (and therefore Sizzix plates made specifically for our BigShots becoming scarce), it seems a more practical solution to use a “substitute” item that is readily available AS IT’S NOT SPECIFIC TO PAPER CRAFTING!! Not only more readily available, but less expensive, too! Be well, and happy holidays!!

    • @CatGetsCrafty
      @CatGetsCrafty 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@kkrolf2782 I'm glad you found a solution. I think the Magic Mat might work for you, and could potentially cost less (it retails for $14.99). With the use of the Magic Mat, I only use one clear plate in my sandwich, and it doesn't really warp. And, since the dies cut into the mat, I don't see any damage to my clear plate either. I already had the smaller Magic Mats, but am thinking of buying the 9"x15" to use with my Spellbinders Platinum, and cutting it down a bit as it's a bit longer and wider than the Platinum opening.

      As the intricate dies cut easily then coordinating dies will work just as well with the mat.

    • @prettypaperthings
      @prettypaperthings 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because regular dies cut easily and intricate dies sometimes is a hit or miss. Because they are intricate sometimes they fail to cut unless you add more paper or play with the sandwich. Regular dies won't fail unless you don't have the right original sandwhich. There's no need to show it as there is no reason why it wouldn't work.

      No, it's different. The embossing mat is used to help make an embossed impression on the cardstock, a self healing mat is a bit more durable and you can take an exact knife and cut cardstock on top of the self healing mat and the self healing mat absorbs the cut. For better explanation, you can look up the differences. I only use the embossing mat to make impressions on paper and the self healing mat as a shim bc my plates are well used and I need the extra pressure when using my die cut machine. Hope this helps, again just look online and it will give you a better explanation:)

    It would’ve been nice if you would have explained to the viewer what a magic mat actually is and what it does. Not all of the viewers are well versed in the paper craft world. To assume so, was your first mistake. Second, your title is a bit deceiving since you didn’t answer any specific questions.
    So, what I got from watching is it works in the majority of die cutters, especially the most popular ones. Second, it does not go to the width of some of the wider ones like the Big Shot Plus. I’m guessing it’s around six inches wide, which is of no help with the bigger dies. Lastly, it is supposed to work with all of our dies in that it will be easy to poke through all of the paper bits that had been cut out.
    Question, what about the other cutting plate you’ve been running through? Won’t it get all curvy as it has in the past? Would you recommend crafters to get two, therefore, not having to worry that one of them will warp and have to be replaced often. Or, are we only fixing one of the plates, not both?
    I know I’m sounding snippy, I’m just upset the a lot of people just assumes everyone will know what the heck they are talking about. All of the paper crafters have started somewhere, even if it’s just for inspiration to get their creativity flowing. We have all started form somewhere and none have been proficient in their first time around.
    Please, the next time a video is being made, stop for a moment and envision yourself as a beginner and what questions you would have if so. It’s all I ask.
    Thank you for your time.
    Be well

    aww, I was hoping for actual questions answered, or even some hacks for the Magic Mat, instead of just showing the sandwiches for every die cutting machine currently sold and if the magic mat works at one size, wouldn't all of them work as long as they fit? Showing how to use the standard and the mini pad on the extended platform is a bit superfluous.
    Maybe its just me, but I was hoping for some good info on other ways to use the magic mat. How to partially die cut, or using a folded card to make the die cut go through both sides for a double see thru or shaker card. Things like that. But then again, there are many newbies in the papercrafting world the same as I was when I bought one of the first grand wizard die cutting machines from Spellbinders. Anyone else remember that machine? It was responsible for the die cutting monkey, now gorilla, on my back.

      It's actually quite a noticeable difference. A couple of benefits are my excess paper isn't picking up any lines from my scarred cutting plates, which kind of ruins any uncut paper. The other difference is the deeper curve on the edges, giving a little more dimension, and polished look to the finished die cuts. It also feels easier and smoother to crank.
