- We captured the poignant moment when the one-off Porsche 911 Sally Special said goodbye to the car that inspired it at the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen.
A homage to Sally Carrera, the much loved 2002 Porsche 911 from Pixar’s movie, Cars, the 911 Sally Special was jetting off to the US. She will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in Monterey, CA on 20 August 2022. Proceeds from the sale will go to support charities Girls Inc. and UNHCR.

I hope whoever wins this auction brings the car to places where people (especially kids) get to see it. It'd be a shame to have the car sitting in someone's car collection far from the public eye.

Imagine Fiat made a Luigi special, Chevrolet made a Ramone and Flo special, Hudson made a 'The Doc' special, Cadillac made a Tex Dinoco special, Dodge made a The King Special.
@@liquidgoldsoup2833 Imagine Hudson still existed, those old cars just looked so good, the design flowed so well throughout the car, and designers almost had more freedom I feel like, even though today there's less physical limitations laws and regulations have made it worse.
@@liquidgoldsoup2833 Well Dodge still makes an options package for the Charger with references to the Daytona (the sister car to Plymouth Superbird, which The King is based on). Although speaking of which, it would be cool if they made a version to honor Richard Petty

When I watched the movie Cars the first time as a little kid, I didn't know what a Porsche was even was. But as I grew older, I went and looked up which car was Sally Carrera was since I liked cars so much. Then I saw the most beautiful 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera image ever. And at that moment I loved Porsche ever since. It's sad to see this one of a kind 911 to go but I will never forget what Porsche has done to me: Their cars will still be beautiful in the coming future.

Would have been cool but nearly impossible. Headlamps are probably the single most expensive component on a vehicle, so doing that in a way that was safe and compliant with current standards around the world would have been financially prohibitive.

Damn this video is heart warming. Even though it’s basically like an other new 911 you can buy but with some special stuff that you could add on your own, but from factory like this and backstory makes it awesome. Also $3.4 mil to charity! Awesome!

Sally Carrera is a fictional character in the Pixar computer animated film Cars. Sally is a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera, and the character is modeled after Dawn Welch, the proprietor of Rock Cafe in Oklahoma. Sally is the town attorney for Radiator Springs, having moved from California, where she was a successful lawyer. She is voiced by Bonnie Hunt.

Thank you Porsche for bringing a small desire of mine to see Sally in real life. I am very much likely to admit that Sally was the best car that caught my attention when I first saw the movie cars.

This is gonna make me cry. Soul is what makes cars unique and lively. Great moment in history. Sally is always in my mind and apart from the high performance perfection every manufacturer should remind themselves of touching the hearts of their customers.
Talk about a heartbreaking farewell. All good things must come to an end... A lesson that even I learned it the hard way.

edit: But the nostalgia I get when I see the car is just hair-raising. I have loved the Cars franchise since I was little, and I still watch it today! I hope other car manufacturers do this as well..
its kind of surprising, that no one other crossed the Pixar Cars world, there were so much iconic cars, even newer like Miata or Fiat 500. from these two I would expect such collaboration more than from a serious brand like Porsche, but it turns out, that Porsche People had more sense what affect people. And these tribute to Pixar is just amazing, as amazing as the character that was interpreted in the 911.
That moment where the headlights moved to show emotion and a sense of it being alive just brought back major nostalgia to the other car related movie Series that Disney made.
And I hope to see it someday picked up again possibly when the inevitable return of a 4th Generation of a certain other European Automotive classic that shares many similarities in design and that sort of "heart and soul". Also thanks in part to Ferdinand Porsche as well.
And while it certainly never became anything like a race car . . . it actually kinda did in our eyes.
Let's just say that certain two digit number, three basic colors and the power of love made history like that on another car.

Yes I named my first Porsche , a 986 Boxster "Sally". She was a wonderfull Porsche and inspired me to buy a 2007 997 GT3 and the rest is history !
I wanted to say it's just a 911 painted blue, but after seeing all the minor details like the glowing trampstamp and kachow mode, I'm honestly impressed. Porsche designers not sleeping for once 😂 Good job.
Considering how old the 911 design is, Id guess that porsche's designers are sweating the most. Imagine having to improve a design that's been out for so long without changing the style

Cars made a huge impact on me growing up, my brother drives a speed yellow 996 and we might have the movie to thank for our family's love of Porsche, I didn't appreciate going to the museum enough back when I went. Can't wait to return!

Porsche did something absolutely spectacular here. While in Cars they made Hudson Hornet based on real life racer, in here Porsche did the exact opposite. Honestly I hope more models like this will come to life.
Technicaly you’re not right, because Sally in Cars was paid by Porsche to be 996 gen carrera. So Sally was already based on real life car

This is kinda sad for me. In 2016 I went to a few countries in Europe with my family and we went to the porsche museum in Germany. My brother and I got a picture with that car and my Bro really got excited. It's a core memory for us now. Hope Sally goes into good hands.

Been to the Porsche museum last year, prolly the cleanest ans the best car museum I've ever been! Worth the 4 hr drive and and I was able to hit 165 mph on a stretch of autobahn getting there hahaha! Would go there again in a heart beat.
