She's wrong about the space in the back. I went to the New Mini launch event and actually sat and drove the new Mini. I am 6ft 1" and I easily got my Dad in the back who is also 6ft without a problem whilst I was driving. It doesn't look like much room when just looking at it but trust me, there was more than enough :)

If you compare it to other cars it's still a proper mini. Also, all cars are getting bigger. For example the vw polo is almost as big as the first generations of the golf.

Brilliant review! The MINI exudes style that is true to it's roots. A fun car to drive and solidly built. In addition, you can customize it through the large parts and accessories catalogue to make it your own unique ride! I bought two for my young adult children...very easy to maneuver in the city and parking lot. They love it! Keep up the great reviews :)

I've driven the previous generation Mini Cooper and this looks so much more upmarket than the old one.
Gorgeous, adorable.. superb in close up.
And, being a Mini.. the car is fine as well.

Please stop referring to VED as "road tax", it doesn't directly fund road repairs or construction.

...it's a tax for using your car on the road, not specifically for funding the road.
All other taxes are named after what is taxed, not where the revenue supposedly goes.

Great as usual Rebecca. I don't know why but the Mini is becoming more appealing to me.
They've done enough to keep the Mini interesting with the front and rear facelift and the few little tweaks in the cockpit... I'm liking it

Well I do not like that the MINI grows in dimensions, but so is the lifecycle of most modern cars. I do like how this new version looks, it´s still MINI DNA and they managed to make it look slightly more dynamic a contained - That rear spoiler e.g. flow extremely nice with the roof and the extra black plastic edges does not take the look down either in fact I find that it even make the profile more clear.
I've seen one in the fleash, and oh my god it is massive!!! The front and interior look nice, but the back of it is bluuuggghhh

+1 for space in the back. It looks pitiful but when you're in there its quite ok. There is a lot more headroom in the back than an audi a1.
The Mini 2014 looks superb. I'm so happy they are

Mini does look a lot better as a three door, don’t like the new 5 doors! Maybe they should’ve done what Renault did with their Clio and abscured the extra doors in the styling.

Tail lights like the original? Handing like the original? Have you seen or driven an original recently or are you just quoting from the bmw press pack? I'm an original mini owner. The 2001 model was a good effort but subsequent updates have taken it further and further from where it should be. This thing looks like a tank.

I have one question and i hope to get clear respond, because I'm buying my first car, having tough time deciding. really like mini hatch s. I leave in Moscow some times it's -20 degrees Celsius really snowy and cold lots of ice on roads. What is like to start up an engine in the morning when its freezing? are there any problems that i should be aware of?

Hats off to BMW for saving this brand. And hats off to them for keeping it stylish and cool. That said, I really wish this newest model was about 90% of its current size. and the nose with the sloped headlight is starting to look silly.

Where are the high beams? I only see two projector headlamps for low beams.
Tung Nguyen the UK gallon is approx 25% larger than than US gallon, which may explain the higher mpg'.

The ride is probably bumpy due to the larger wheel selection on the test vehicle, maybe smaller wheels would make for a smoother long journey ride? The options on this car is crazy priced, sounds like mini is going for the old social preasure sales technique "If you cant afford it, there is always the DS3, more value for your money" haha seriously people actually fall for this pitch even today. Go for the DS3, far more advanced and much better ride.
This review is very misleading in terms of mpg. You quote the 'official' figures but phrase them as "the vehicle will return x mpg". Which is completely untrue. Why not let people know what mpg you actually averaged during the review.
Yet another car were you think it's cheep till you add the options that are needed...

Sinky If you are too young to know what an E-type is then you shouldn't be posting comments about cars! If your interest in cars was big enough you would know how the Jag looks like. I am 20 years old and I know how the Jag looks, I like the F-type which is kind of his "next generation". The mini is an iconic car just like its shape/ looks.
Porsche should definitely change the 911 completely. I mean, it looks like a car from the 1960's!

all of the diesels are 3 cylinders: i thought everyone complained about them - why are BMW thinking they are a good idea?!
BMW doesn't think they are a good idea but they have to make them in order to get their fleet emissions down.
