Hello Marielene, thank you so much for these videos. They have re-inspired me to learn more songs on the guitar. I find it hard to find christian songs to play on the guitar that are not just chords but nice finger picking. Keith Green was a wonderful artist! Please don't stop doing these videos.

You're the best! I'm a bass player but lead worship on guitar, so these have really helped me with arranging and playing the songs. It's hard to find practical and playable guitar charts that are still harmonically correct for the old hymns. I usually surgically reconstruct a hybrid from several sources, very time consuming as you know. You have invested a lot of time into this thanks for sharing.

Learn 8 measures at a time (slow speed) until you know them really well and then speed up, and go to the next 8 measures etc. i'm convinced this is the best way to learn thouroughly.

Haha, I prefer not to say that... several decenies though. But I really got into a learning process only some 8 years ago. I worked hard and played a lot (2 to 3 hours a day and even more during the weekends). best way to progress is play segments, like 8 mesures, slowly, got to the next 8 mesures (play them over and over until you got them right), again keep on playing slowly. Never hurry anything, music is not sports! And once you've gone throught the whole song, play it perfectly, as slow as needed, and speed up little by little until one day you'll notice you're upspeed effortless.

This is beautiful! I also play Christian music fingerstyle on acoustic guitar. It's hard to tell, I was wondering if you are playing the melody with the chords while you're singing it, or if you are playing a background picking pattern with little bits of the melody between phrases. I tend to play melody/chords at the same time while also singing melody, because it's so much easier to sing in tune if I can just sing along to the melody notes on the instrument. I was wondering if this is something that's done and that people think sounds good, because I only hear other players do either chord-melody arrangements or strum/pick harmony while singing, but I never see anyone play and sing melody at the same time.

To answer your question, I myself don't play and sing the melody at the same time,I try to make an arrangement to support the singing and probably once in a while the melody and the guitar do get together. I try to play an accompaniment that supports the melody sang by the voice and in between I may play the melody or add an intrumental part. I personnally think this to be more interresting for the listener. But if you sing better when playing the melody along, why not? Then that's your style.
