I totally relate to your story as I was also raised by a schizophrenic single mom, and the first time I heard from my dad I was 18, and met him personally at 20 years old. I'm now 36. You're so right on with the fact that growing up with just your mentally ill mom, it shapes you and affects you in ways most people are not fully aware of, and after you're older it's really hard to get over the scars and traumas, and it takes a lot of self reflection and joining the dots together, to come to some conclusions about your self. Most people have no idea, simply because they haven't been through a situation like that. It's the kind of thing you have to have gone through to fully understand the consequences of it. I'm so sorry to hear everything you went through but on the other hand I have the feeling you put this out to connect with people, and I have been having the same need, to connect with people who have gone through something similar, as it can feel very lonely, or not feel fully "seen", if you know what I mean. Also for the mare sake of bringing awareness, since mental illnesses are still very much a "taboo" subject, and unfortunately because of that, most people would not open up about this, as it's very hard to find people who you feel like they won't miss judge you or completely ignore the subject. All this to say, I immensely admire you for bring this up and putting this out in telling your personally story in such a detailed way. I would love to connect with you in whatever level you feel comfortable with and tell you my story, as so much of what you said really resonated with me and I do have that urge and the need to connect with people who have been through something so, so similar.
