I never thought I’d see Thrice on here. One of my all time favorite bands. Metallica/Thrice share my number 1 spot. I highly suggest checking more of them out. Every album is different.
Fuckin LOVE that you covered Thrice. An underrated gem of a band if ever there was one. Paper tigers, deadbolt, to awake and avenge the dead, phoenix ignition, the long defeat (for a different kind of vibe that I love)…there’s many but those are my personal favorites. Big ups for this one!
The song is literally about the Greek myth of Icarus. However, I think the writer is using it as a metaphor for taking a chance and having no fear of failing, like Icarus flying to high like a god even though his wax wings would melt from the sun when he got to close and he would fall to his death.
When the album came out, Dustin said it was their official answer for people talking about them signing to a major label. Great blend of story and metaphor for taking a chance on something that you'd never know unless you tried.
Thrice are my all time favorite band. Just saw them for the 9th time on Friday and I don’t think they’ve ever sounded better. It’s awesome to see you guys checking them out. If you choose to do more you really can’t go wrong because Thrice haven’t really released a bad song yet IMO.
You have to listen to this song from the revised album that they released this year. In fact, you have to listen to the entire revisited album, it's amazing!
Thankyou guys!!! Been waiting for some thrice on any channel!! Image of the invisible is one of my favorites. But really hard to pinpoint a favorite with thrice!!
Dustin uses literary references a lot in his lyrics. He’s referencing the story of Daedalus and Icarus from Greek mythology who have been punished by being banished to an island. Daedalus creates wings for him and his son to escape using wax, feathers and string. He warns his son that they need to be careful to not fly too low and get their wings wet but also not fly too close to sun which would cause the wax to melt. Icarus doesn’t listen to his father and flies too close to the sun, his wings fall apart and he’s plunged into the sea. This is hopeful song saying I’m willing to take risks. They have a companion song on a later album from the perspective of Daedalus with a completely different sound that brings me to tears now that I’m a parent. My favorite band.
These guys are amazing. They were one of my favorite bands back in high school (early 2000s). I got to see them in 2006 on the Taste of Chaos tour with As I Lay Dying, Deftones, Dredg, Pelican, and a ton of other bands.
@@rhiannonrecommends I have a signed copy of El Cielo that I got when I met the band on that tour that's one of my prized musical possessions. My mom even enjoys that album.
The genre is called Post hardcore. Thrice, Rise against, Thursday are some of the big names in the genre. This is middle ground for thrice they get harder and much softer. This song is 20 years old they remade this album for the 20th anniversary. They became progressively moor experimental and are characterized by a blend of folk electronic and alt rock now. The melting point of wax is probably mid tier thrice which means it's good but they have songs that are extremely good. They have one of the most esoteric and meta physical lyrical styles. They are a not flashy but entirely unique. everyone in the scene knows them and you would be hard pressed to find a modern hardcore punk who doesn't die them as an influence. They carry a sense of humility and integrity jabbering never changed a member and never having any controversy. My suggestions for songs are. Artist in the ambulance Paper tigers Of dust and nations Black honey Palms Scavengers
Its more like Dustin saw hinself as Icarus when he was younger and wrote this song....Years later he became a father and saw himself more as Icarus' father, Daedalus. Really cool imagery really
I grew up with these guys. I've see thrice 27 times now, and every time is better. They truly are like a fine wine, they only get better with age. This is one of the most underrated bands and Dustin alone is a severely underrated singers of all time.
I call it art rock, akin to Kaddisfly, Dredg, Mutemath, etc Also gotta get to Stare at the Sun, All That's Left, and my favorite, Image of the Invisible
I remember this band from black honey. Weird song and video, but catchy. Oh if you want to get rid of those numbers after your name you have to claim your handle in your page settings
You should listen to the whole album re recording. They release it like this year for the 20 year anniversary. The whole album is re recorded. It's really cool.
Yeah check out all their new stuff to see how much they’ve evolved. 2 bands on a similar trajectory that are friends with each other is Thrice and Manchester Orchestra. Also, I’ve been following y’all since the Tool days and never knew until today that I wasn’t subscribed my bad that’s on me. 😂
Thrice is Post Punk/Hardcore. Depending on the songs and albums. Most good bands change over the years and adapt/grow. Bands that can’t fade out into just memories.
I love you guys’ videos and reactions so much. Please react to De Sade or maybe Acidic by slipknot. Two good songs off their new album I think you guys would love
I never thought I’d see Thrice on here. One of my all time favorite bands. Metallica/Thrice share my number 1 spot. I highly suggest checking more of them out. Every album is different.

"willing to find out what impossible means" joins into this.

Thrice is very eclectic. They’ve touched everything from metalcore to post-rock.
Listen to “paper tigers” or “deadbolt” for something more hardcore
You have to listen to this song from the revised album that they released this year. In fact, you have to listen to the entire revisited album, it's amazing!

Black Honey by Thrice is super nice.
Black honey, plus a few others will show you a darker side of them, and it's a relieving side as well!!

Saw these guys twice last week and I can't wait for them to come back! They don't miss, regardless of sound or genre they're exploring
Thrice are amazing. Saw them last month… awesome show.
The follow up to this is Daedalus. Not from the same album but it's a continuation on the story, just fyi
Its more like Dustin saw hinself as Icarus when he was younger and wrote this song....Years later he became a father and saw himself more as Icarus' father, Daedalus. Really cool imagery really
So cool to see you guys react to Thrice. They are in my Top 5 fav bands.
Also, this song is about Icarus, who flew too close to the sun and had his wax wings melt.

One of the few bands from my teen years I still listen to today.
Such a underrated band. Their entire catalog is so good and diverse. Best live band I’ve ever seen, they put on such a good show
This entire album is this kinda vibe, solid!
This song is about Icarus and flying too close to the sun.
Image of the Invisible. Love to see you digest and dissect that one.
Thrice is amazing. FYI, they made a track later on that contiues the story of this song. I hope you get to hear it. 🤘
Good to see Thrice getting some love❤. Black Honey an The Dark are well worth checking out.
This channel and a few others have taught me that you can hypnotize rappers with 6/8 time 😂🤘
Thrice has some of the most amazing lyrics I've ever heard from a band.
Thrice has become my favorite band OAT simply because their catalog is SOOO diverse its insane.
Finally some thrice on the channel they're my favorite band of all time. In my opinion thrice can't be defined by any certain genre.
I call it art rock, akin to Kaddisfly, Dredg, Mutemath, etc

Hurricane is a really powerful track.

Deadbolt and To awake and avenge the dead probably my favorite two tracks from them.
First off, love Thrice! Second I’d love to see a reaction to Atmosphere’s song God Loves Ugly

Black honey, and scavengers
