      Definitely agree, no need to rush when working with such a legendary Evo. Looking forward to seeing this icon come to life again!
      By the way the HKS foam filters are supposed to be replaced quite often but most people that install them forget about replacing the foam and expect them to last forever 🤪. Replacement intervals are....
      Dry type: after 6 to 12 months, or 6- 10,000km
      Wet type: after 3 to 6 months, or 3- 5,000km

    Considering y'all already need a new fuel tank, it would not be such a bad idea to redo everything fuel related. What would also be cool is to try and contact these companies and see if they can get some special parts for the car shipped to your doorstep like a new HKS turbo kit.

    Fuel tank is thick metal, you can get rid of the rust in it with Bilt Hamber Deox-C. Will dissolve that rust back to good as new. It’s powder, you mix up with water, pour in, watch It bubble away dissolving the rust back to steel, like magic! I’ve done exactly this. 👌

    Dustin,
    This video just triggered my PTSD! I bought a literal barn-find low mileage EVO 8 that was parked for over 2 years, non running, 2 dealerships couldn't even get it started. I bought it, got it running. 4 days later found out it was crankwalked. Got a new long block. It's running again. 500 miles miles later injectors went bad. Got em cleaned, 500 miles they got clogged again. Took injector filter baskets out, found debris. WTF. Pulled fuel pump and had mad rust in there. Then this video became my life for a few couple days. I felt every emotion you went through during this. lol. Thank God I have a lift in my garage as well! 🙏

    Good idea for a drain plug on the fuel tank, when I was a tech workiing on Jags they didnt, so when I had to pull a full fuel tank it would just spill out when dropping it out the car.

  • @Disruptedable
    @Disruptedable 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Considering the car has been sitting for 15 years, the damage really isnt bad. Replace the fuel system, run clean oil straight through the engine + gearbox until clean, fix the cooling and replace the air intake. Oh yea, while you are at it, drop the oilpan and replace the gasket, might be dry and start leaking. But after that it, should be safe for a start up. Of course after that many years, you never know what might give in once you get her going. Go easy on her boys, once you got her rolling, she needs to retrace her steps before rippin :-)
    Thank you for taking good care of such a legend

    I would go OEM style fuel tank to preserve the cars original movie form. Rebuild the turbo on the car and fuel system. Needs to maintain it's early 2000's Tokyo Drift heritage! Great job finding the source of the problem! I cant wait to hear the Evo start for the first time!

  • @bigfatcarguy1827
    @bigfatcarguy1827 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    change the fuel pump set, tank replace or refurbish if you can, do fuel line flushing too, i would prefer to the original tank instead of fuel cell. you can service the injector too see if it can be saved. for turbo first check on the fin if it breaks or badly shaking. if okay on both side of the fin, replace all fluids, see if there is any small bits of metal or not. if all okay you can try start the car. If white smoke appear, you might need to check on valve seal or piston ring or turbo oil seal. That is what I did to my Mitsubishi Airtrek Evo 9 engine. hope this helps.

    They have tons of ways to restore gas tanks! Basically you just pour acetone in the tank and it eats it all away. Then you can add a sealant if needed. I've seen way worse! Like I have seen varnished totally and restored fully. They also have places that do it for you.

    that sucks you just can't start it up but you gotta be prepared to dig in deep and do it proper. it's ok if it takes time to restore it's been sitting for over a decade. i'd also suggest doing a prestone flush on the coolant so it can actually clean it instead of just swapping the fluids.
