some salient features: 1. Raj Kapoor, Nargis, Dilip Kumar acting obviously are excellent. 2. Raj first half acting of carefree person and second half acting of jeolous, suspicious husband is quite admiring. 3. The way Nargis acted with her father, with her friend (Dilip), and her lover ( Raj) does not seem like an acting. She is so natural. Even her smiles is completely accurate; when she can adjust her smile accurately to her dad, friend, and lover. When she dealt with her girl friend; Cuckoo; it is so natural as well. I have learned to observe intensly the acting of Nargis and Raj Kapoor in any of their movies. The story comes later on. Ever smiling, fun loving girl in first half is serious and sad after interval and how she can do justice to her role can be matched by none. Only, Nutan, Smita Patil comes close to her acting. 4. Dilip's acting is exemplary as well. He acted well the first half as romantic young man; who is in love with Nargis. Later half was equally good; when he acted well as a person; whose love can not reciprocrated and he seems to understand the truth. 5. Mehboob Khan obviously directed well the arguably the first hindi love triangle movie. He has protrayed well the social complexity of platonic relationship, suspicious lover, wise eldery generation (Nargis' dad), the real meaning of modernity and others. 6.At the end of the movie; Raj should be apologizing with Nargis for his suspicious behaviour. However, it was Nargis who touched her husband feet and apologized. This categorically can be called as sexist. The movie was made in 1949. Now its 2021. Has anything improved in last 72 yrs in terms of showing equity of gender role in movies; weather bollywood or hollywood or south Indian movies? 7. Platonic relationship obvously is not natural. The movies shows the fact quite well. Humans hormones and desire is too big to be contained in platonic relationship. 8. A woman or man should not go so close with opposite sex; who are not their partners. Nargis seems to understand this at the end of the movie; which her father try to warn early in the movie. One can obviously be modern without trying to copy western values. 9. who can avoid faith at the end of the day. It seems that Dilip was destined to get injured by Raj at the end and then get shot by Nargis as self defense. A society is so much powerful and cruel than any one of us; who tries to play safe. 10.Cuckoo is staring to like Dilip. Dilip is starting to like Nargis and Nargis already has a fiance. Neither she or her father, her girl friend tells this fiance thing to Dilip. Now, this may be called a formula. In real life; obviously one tells to Dilip that Nargis got fiance. Obviously , due to this formula; concept of love traingle originated. 11. One needs to know when to maintain silence. Dilip should not have confessed his love to Nargis at her wedding night. He paid with his life. 12.At the court; Nargis should have told her side of story to the Judge for the sake of her daughter and for the sake of herself. However, story writer did not seem it to be important. Therefore, I reiterate my previous point; has anything changed in last 72 yrs? 13. A woman should be able to have and maintain platonic relationship. However, generally speaking males tend to take the relationship in another way due to their hunting era hormones. Impregneting a young woman and leaving his genes and continuing his male dynasty and hereditary is innate need of every man.Genghis Khan is the role model for all males; knowingly, unknowingly. Therefore, platonic relationship is doomed and females are responsible only minor way for initiating the relationship. Males have to open minded and more social in this 21 's century. We are not living in hunting age anymore. 14.At the end, Cuckoo also did not get the lover she wanted and it seems that no body is bothered about it.

The movie does not make sense to me.. story line is very poor..she already told him once she married him on her own will and why should he act weird ..Raj's character is absurd and so is the story!!!
