    The ones that get me are owner-operating truck drivers coming on forums to get diagnosis for the truck-tractor which they drive.
    Classic case of bad management such as running too cheap if freight rates or generally being undercapitalized. In trucking, for a decade now, you got to be able, mentally as well as financially, laugh-off $1000. So forum posters do not even want to pay a $150 diagnosing fee. Inconceivable.

    Unfortunately there aren't a lot of machine shops around. I grew up in a town with several, but have yet to see one where I live now.
    I bought an inexpensive truck with a good body that I'm repairing to drive, but that the last guy left maintenance neglected. Unfortunately I found his neglect left me with a pinhole in a cylinder and 2 hairline cracks in the head I believe because he wouldn't repair an exhaust manifold gasket, so now it's a remanufactured engine trying to make the truck drivable. I chose not to drop in a junkyard motor, but now I'm regretting a remanufactured 4.9. I feel over a barrel with an extremely slick rim.

    Truer words were never spoken! Thanks for the info you've shared with us. Always looking forward to hear what you have to say. It's nice to know there are others out there that haven't got caught up in the auto rebuild money making train. Keep up the good work. An old timer engine builder told me 40 years ago that it's the "combination" that works properly not the one magic part. Listen to your true engine builder not the engine assembler.

    So would you say experience is better than school on learning engine building? I understand that most need the technical data, but may not necessarily be able to build an engine for the first time that runs right for that particular engine

    Ken what is a cheep 302 roller motor combo..I hear gt40 heads ..but they are hard to come bye here in Vermont . because all the exploders have been crushed due to rust .I have an 88 mustang gt . I'm planning on going carburetor and an HEI distributor ..and I hear I can't do a hydraulic flat lifter cam because of the valve springs . And I would have to machine the heads to except the spring s.

      You could buy those heads from any auto parts store remanufactured and get a Ford B cam hydraulic roller

      Also they make a valve spring kit for those heads

    Couldn't agree more. I don't know how many times on forums guys ask how to get more power. Then when they get bombarded with the hard questions, and in depth tech info they just slink away after realizing it just ain't that easy. I'm getting an education for the high performance world, and after learning what I have so far I just can't believe the amount of bad advice/information there is. That and how many people shut their ears to information that challenges their view of what it actually takes to make a car really perform. Everyone wants to know what parts to buy, but not why they should buy those parts.

    You get what you pay for. I always get guys asking for "high performance" and only wanna pay $1000 for a complete engine. It gets old, I feel your pain.

    I always enjoy your videos and the information you share. This year I built the engine in my gasser Chevy II. I spent a tremendous amount of time studying how to do it and my combination of things, and discussing with some very good and experienced machine shop guys. They were gracious enough to share info and expertise with me (known them for 30 years). Most of the time they go way more in depth and further than any questions I asked, because of the relationship of one thing to the next. I could never afford to pay them for the time and knowledge they gave me for free! I can only pay them back by respecting them, and being loyal to them, and buying what I can from the shops they run. Thanks Ken. Steve

    Hello Ken, your a great guy, been watching some of your videos. There's sure a difference between and engine assembler and engine builder. I'd have some questions for u as I like to keep learning. On a 350 Chevy built for low rpm torque and mileage street driving pickup how high of compression can I run with 91 octane pump gas on a very short duration camshaft. 201/207@50 114 lobe centers. Hydraulic flat tappet. Is 10 to 1 in your years of experience the most with iron heads and still have room for some timing?

    Hi again Ken! Nice to see you again sir. A bit off topic here, but I see stupid people, I see them everywhere. They walk around like regular people and they don't even know that they are stupid. John Wayne used to say: "life is hard, it's even harder when you are stupid." I trust and listen to Ken, "MY" engine guy. Cheers from Motown.

    The audience is partly to blame. People will lap up videos that tell them you can drag a junk out of the field and drive it cross country. Reality is I am restoring a car that sat in a field for years and the only brake parts still usable are the backing plates and the brake pedal itself. No one is interested in how to fix things. They want to watch a guy PRETEND to drive a car with no brakes 1000 miles.

    KJV BIBLE FOR TRUTH.
    Proverbs 1:22-33
    [22]How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
    [23]Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
    [24]Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
    [25]But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
    [26]I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
    [27]When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
    [28]Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
    [29]For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
    [30]They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
    [31]Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
    [32]For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
    [33]But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

    I have always adjusted my valves the same way you good to know that someone the way I do too they make everything so high-tech. People do not understand you don't have to have all these fancy to it's actually quite simple. I believe the one is to buy the high-tech tools just adjust valves really don't know what they're doing I guess they figure if they buy the fancy tools it will work will work better not true is it, anyway I just wanted to tell you I am just like you I know what works and what doesn't
