Higher Ground: The Last Independent Ski Resorts in Utah. Episode 3 - Sundance Mountain Resort

  • Sundance Mountain Resort is undeniably famous and unfathomably picturesque, but underneath all that lustre is some of the absolute best skiing I've ever found.
Skiing is one of the most basic human traditions; slide down a snowy hill with some friends and enjoy time outside in the winter. So how did we stray so far from our roots, with massive conglomerate resorts that cost an arm and a leg to enjoy, and consume hours of our lives waiting in line? Join Nate Luebbe as he explores the last few remaining independent ski resorts in Utah to discover what skiing used to be, and still is, if you know where to look.

Sundance is where I learned to ski and it's where i'm teaching my daughter how to ski. Love the vibes, albeit it has changed a bit since the sale.

These production qualities are insanely good. There's something cool about finding channels like this before they inevitably blow up

Had a 23 inch powder day on Feb 22inch. Amazing terrain. Did a bluebird groomer day a few days later with my kid and her cousins, great playful groomers with a bit of everything.

Sundance is simply magic compared to other larger resorts. Just enough of everything, year after year. Great overview.

East coast snowboarder here, went to Sundance, our first trip out west, this year. We loved it. Much bigger mountain than what we are used too but not overwhelming. Art classes, spa, and snowshoeing at nordic center kept the non skiers/snowboarders occupied. And the food was great. Can't wait to go back.

Lots of bigger resorts, but if you are a lover of winter, snow, mountains, and scenic views, Sundance is possibly the most beautiful place on earth.

This is my local resort I grew up skiing, still ski (and work!) there today. Place feeds my soul and I definitely found out who I was there.

Beautiful. It's ironic, this resort is just east of me, I am in Lehi. I cannot access Sundance from the Timpanogos highway, it's closed in the winter, access is from the south.
Boy, I'm here to tell ya, I'll be there next season. I'm an old fire captain. Years ago, I saw what happened to Vail and Aspen in Colorado, miss the days when the family could ski together.

Right in my backyard! Everyone that goes here says it is very fun, not a lot of complaints. I'd love to go here vs the cotton/crowded woods. Thank You!

What, not even a mention of Sundance founder Robert Redford? For shame! I highly recommend his non-fiction historical book "The Outlaw Trail: A Journey Through Time". The actual Sundance Kid had quite a reputation amongst the Mormon settlers. His real life was even more interesting than Redford's Hollywood portrayal.
