I am seventy years old. I was born in 1945. This is what I call good music. The seventies and the eighties were the absolute best years for good music. Those days are long gone. If you are waiting for them to come back, forget it. Just cherish and enjoy what we have from the past.
Don't forget the 60s, there was loads of good music in that decade as well. Music was pretty much good and experimental and changing all the way from the 60s-90s. After the 90's, not sure what happened but creativity died and music became stagnant and in a direction that is not entertaining or memorable.
This sounded so good on the giant Magnavox, you know the one that looked like a cabinet. It held the LPs inside under a sliding door that also hid the turntable. It and even dropped the next record when the needle hit the end.
This song came out in 1980 when my wife and I became one as husband and wife . Shining Star was our song and she was right beside me until her dying days . Today is three years without her. We dated five months and was together for 35 years. I thought 35 years was a long time, but when she died, it felt like it was only for a day.
So sorry to hear!! I’m 55 have a sister that’s 63 so I grew up hearing all the greats on the radio and her 8 track tape collection of all the 70s when started driving. Then came the 80s I love good music no matter the genre. Moving music like this awesome song !! My heart hurts for you glad y’all had that magic 70s80s time to get started 🏆🏆
Only in time you will hear much more songs like shinning star, lets kiss and say goog by, fooled around and feel in love, I wanna get next to you, the son if a preacher man, green onions, hold me in your arms and rock me baby, flip flop and fly, what i say?, I'll take you there, just the good old boys, feeling all right, I can help, songs have soul power and in the far future some 350 years from now there will be artist from the divine that will write and sing more songs as good as all these, and even better, music like everything else takes time to make. Right now music went for a nap this is why today there is such crap in todays music the modern music singers are'nt real singers they just want attention and fame!!!! But in the far future in your many reincarnations you will hear the new songs, and it will move you. When you hear your favorite songs and you get those goose bumps thats called a spiritual orgasm!!!! Because it so powerfull it goes straight to your soul. Now you know a little bit more about good soul music rather than only listening to it. Your welcome from old soul Moonboy:🎩🎩🎩👍👍😍🤩🎸🎸
this is unbelievably awesome the bass line is so hip the drums are so drippin funky the singing and the dancing one of the greatest love songs of all time no wonder Jerry played this
I am 55 years old. I can remember sitting in my mom's car with my best friend singing this song at the top of our lungs. I have been bestfriends with her for over 40 years. She passed away 3/2/22. I miss her every single day. The world is a sadder place with her not in it.
I can hardly believe that 308 people have disliked the song and video; it really awakens me to the fact that "One man's meat is another's poison", or "Different strokes for different folk". In my view, this is simply a classic! Absolutely beautiful!
+Richard Mwangi, the 'dislikes' are always puzzling but I have yet to work out whether it's the video or the song, each time. It would be good if you could see who is disliking so we could get some feedback as to why. I think the option should be removed. It is unnecessary because the genre or the artists I wouldn't entertain, I would skip in any platform- Facebook, iTunes, Vevo, Amazon, on the radio, television, music store, live performances, etc. The 'dislikes' spoil the mood as I am sure you would agree.
Haters can always find something to hate even the most beautiful things like this genre of music that I grew up to I feel sorry that people hate themselves so much that they can find fault even with a beautiful classic piece like Shining Star
I'm old enough and was fortunate enough to see them in concert in their "hey day". They sounded even better in person than there recordings. So grateful for being around during the times we had powerful, beautiful music and songs with positive meanings.
you are my shining star..memories, memories..every time I hear this song, I remember being so in love with my husband..God gave us 30 years and two beautiful children, I use to sing this song to him almost every day. He is resting in the bosom of our Heavenly Father now...thanks for posting this song
one of my first favorite songs. I remember camping trips in the Sierra Nevadas in California, lying in a stream, looking up at the mountains and having this song in my head.
This song brings me back in an emotional way. Shining Star ✨✨✨ heard this song on the radio when I was quite young with my mother actually. I love The Manhattans and the old R&B groups of my youth.Great sounds and vocals from a much missed simpler time and era that can’t be reproduced and compares to nothing nowadays.Nothing today compares to this music. This song truly comes straight from the heart.🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️🪩🪩🪩🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻✨✨✨
You are MY SHINING STAR 🌟…. So glad I was a music lover in the 70s and 80s so many so talented singers and musicians that played clean soul MOVING music. Wow. I can remember loving looking at all the stars in the sky when I was young!!! It was a magical feeling looking up at the huge sky wanting to touch all the stars. There was always 1 that had that extra sparkle with extra bright glitter light!!! Such an escaped 🩵🩵🩵
this was one of my favorites. how on each could anyone ever pick a favorite song during that era. each group was fantastic. love the Spinners. Main Ingredient, etc. one after another ALL SPECTACULAR.
The Manhattans used to practice in my aunt's apartment that she still lives in to this day.......I wish I was born back then, I swear I'd watch them everytime!
This is Tommy's and my "song". He used to sing it to me as we danced. We've been together 30 years now; married for 29. It's very special to me. Thanks for posting....
fantastic group they know how to sing a song with love and feeling their songs bring back memories shame today's groups don't sing songs like that today
Guess we're all listening to this beauty by the Manhattens as part of the BB top 100 of 1980. I'm always just astounded by how phenomenally good pop music was at that time. I was 10/11 that year, and I feel sorry for today's kids not having songs on the radio that even come close to this. Love out y'all.
Wow I can remember when this came out. It was the jam and this is one of those songs that will never get old or die. Even to this day when this song is played, pull your woman close and whew lawd how mercy you old school folks know what I am saying lol great song
+Qibilii, I was coming to ask the question, Doesn't it make you want to cry? and here you are, the first comment I see. Those were the days I describe as the 'romantic period in modern human history'. It was about the music and what each song was saying, meaning and the mood it was conjuring up. It was the time when people danced until the sun rose the next day. The songs that new generations say they "love" and wish they were in those times. The songs you can still find here on this platform. The songs of quality that will never die. But it was not only from the African race. Don't forget people like Jose Feliciano, The Lettermen, The Brothers Four, Peter Paul and Mary; to name a few. The list is endless. Now it's all about war and territory and affluence and greed and me, myself and I. But at least one can still find a place of solace, inner reflection and 'time-travel'.
Absolutely Olivia Irving, I agree. The dislike option is unnecessary; if one doesn't like the music, they can move on, and we don't really want to know their opinion. Otherwise dislikes spoil the mood by negatively deflecting one's attention. And regarding "Black Music" comment by someone, let's forget about race. Let's leave racial talk to the ignorant who see nothing but colour, or sex, or religion etc etc. All are welcome. Excellent music Olivia!!#
+Richard Mwangi, thank you very much. And it's refreshing to see your clean, calming, grammatical written style of English, something'that's gone completely out the window, both here and in the USA. Pleasant start to my day, Richard, my brother.

I remember when this was cruising music in my youth. Many trips between San Fransisco and Santa Cruz and this kind tune on the radio singing with my Aunty. Miss those days
I may keep getting older, but this music is timeless!

A song popular in 1980 had only the influence of the 70s. 80s music is better defined after 1983 and up.
That was the style back then and not the the styles of today of those men with there butt all hanging out.
