King of the Hammers, Finishing the Toughest Race in the World

  • Every year the cars are built stronger, so every year King of the Hammers hits back with a course that is even harder. This year was no exception. More than 100 hopeful drivers started the day running out into the Johnson Valley desert, only 35 crossed the finish line in time. Team Mickey Thompson left the lake bed with reason to celebrate, claiming two finishes this year with Team Genright's Jordan Pellegrino in the 98 and Christopher Paiva in the 906 car.     Awesome is the word, downright awesome. that is some bad ass driving, the sound of the engines, the dust in your face, the constant up and downs coupled with side shakes, one would need a good humane chassis along with good shock absorbers for sure. Excellent coverage thank you for this video. The work for the organisers must be just as critical as moving an army and its supply train. Simply the best.

    WoW 906 suspension is perfectly dialed in what ever he is running speed & jumping from video no tire lift nearly flat speed no matter the bumps.

    live valve-ing adjust on the fly by fox shocks for raptor sounds game changing, short of just hving ability to manually set adjustment based on run u think u will b doing & need.

      For a side by sides they drive so well & fast any where they will need Live valve tech most of all. If u only go 20-25mph u can just get out or from dash manually adjust shock setting. Cars & trucks hve more wt so less diff 1 setting to next but light wt side by sides diff in setting could b huge ride diff & safety factor.

    Does any team switch driver & co driver for the 3 laps or mostly locked in driving till end.

      Tad and Christopher in the 906 car actually split the driving up quite a bit, to the point where we weren't sure about who to give the title of driver, so we called them both co-drivers. Tad drove for qualifying and a several of the rock trails in the middle of the race, Chris drove from the start and brought it home for the finish. This is unusual but the North Shore team played to the strengths of both drivers to get their solid finish.

    Are 40” tires and aluminum Chevy V8 LS engines still the most common setups at KOHs?

    35 out of 100 ppl finished 4400 class seems way better than 80% prev yrs even though more ppl running IDF & some front & rear independent suspension. + coarse made way harder rock/boulder wise this yr, KO prt.

    98 not near as dialed in more rebounding will hurt speed timed prt but softer rebound may agree w/driver more long race small factor not killing off driver.

    A race car driver or trophy stud vs 99% of ppl who drive, manual adjustment even if from dash vs ABS computer adjustment on shocks, better ride bulk of time. Racing at the limit u just suffer along eqipment b4 comfort but new raptor sounds like can hve best of both.

    run mickey baja on 1 side & nitto on other side & test out in trail at speed, bc that is big diff, not rocks both r great but what about trophy jumping loading.
