The Oilers go into a Ceci trade in a position of weakness, if they want to match the offer sheets. They aren't in a strong position without as it's well known their cap space situation and the other teams will lowball the Oilers for Ceci knowing he's essentially a salary dump. I would say let these 2 go, take the draft picks, save the money because it's going to be needed for 3 upcoming contracts and see how the season starts. If we do well, no hurry for a Ceci deal and there might be a team needing to make a deal due to a long term injury or bad start that could give the Oilers a stronger point to make the trade and get more value.
You certainly can know that. But Ceci is a useful, right hand defender, not a common part in the NHL. It doesn't do your team any good to hardball the oilers (more than they will be regardless, since they are in a weaker position), if they then trade him to your division rival for a slightly better offer.
@@alanpaul9481 I have to wonder with the guys they signed before Bowman became GM, I am sure one of those 3 defense could play 3rd pairing minutes or 2 of them could be an alternating 6th defense, also could that trade with buffalo had a more serious undertone not talked?
