Fishmans is a band that was around in the 90s. They have a brand new documentary coming out all about their career so I thought this would be a perfect time to make a Fishmans album tier list. In today's video, we are ranking Fishmans albums from worst to best.
Fishmans have so many amazing and loved albums. Their albums, Kuuchuu Camp, Uchu Nippon Setagaya, Long Season and of course their amazing live album 98.12.28 are loved by many. However they also have some lesser known albums in their career. These albums are also really great! King Master George, Orange, Neo Yankees Holiday and Chappie Don't Cry are their first albums and while they're not as popular as their newer albums, they still have a lot of charm.

around the 7 minute mark of long season there’s this little violin part that consumes the whole mix and i TRANSCEND every time i hear it

You're right with Long Season's description. I read an article where Motegi was being interviewed, and he said that every sound of long season was trying to describe a feeling, like every little sound from that song was completely planned since the beggining, they spent a lot of time looking for the best. It's amazing.

great video, and very fair ratings!! if you havent heard it yet, i suggest you hear their live album Oh Mountain, it's very groovy and fun like Orange and transforms their earlier songs into rocksteady jams. i've always loved their studio work for sure, but their live material has always been a little more compelling and unique to me. ive heard it said by the band that they treated live performances like "updates" to their songs, which is really cool to explore. good stuff!!

I basically agree with this list with the exception of the studio version of Long Season being in A. I'm definitely in the minority on this, but I actually prefer the studio version over the live cut. Regardless, they're both incredible. Otherwise, great list and I love to see someone talking about and appreciating Fishmans! Subbed!
I agree that both of the versions are incredible. I actually listen to the studio version more than I listen to the live version but my goodness that live version is mind blowing to me. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

Uchu Nippon Setagaya well-deserved S tier. It's the kind of album where if you enjoy the general sound, it's pretty much a flawless album. Weather Report and Daydream are some of the best songs ever made IMO.

LONG SEASON to me feels like the music of an ancient civilization, just as technologically advacned as our civilization but rather than our use of technology, this ancient civilization had nature perfectly mixed with tech. With this setting the otherworldly ethereal experience of LONG SEASON feels natural. Fishmans, at least for me managed to make music that feels like its from another reality and has graced us with their talent to put it into practice

98.12.28 and orange are damn near perfect imo. 98.12.28 is my #1 album ever and orange is my #4

The band performed after Otokotachi No Wakare, just not with Sato.
How are those performances, if you've seen them? I feel like it would be hard to capture the feeling of the band without Sato

Haha I saw it a while ago at a friends house, I thought it was great! As I've gotten older and more into editing, I've found a new found appreciation for the practical effects they used in that movie. I gotta rewatch it at some point!

I SEE WEATHER, I SEE WEATHER! I love it. Kind of upset that I forgot to mention it. The synth and guitar in it are fantastic and I love it when the hi-hat does that little delay thingy. Beautiful song
