The 5th inning was the worse inning in Yankee history, they gave that game away and they (Boone) gave Game 1 away. This is a very tough pill to swallow for us Yankee fans.
Jason, thanks for your effort in this fine channel. I haven’t seen this nor any other after game video on the lost last night. I am very sad the Yankees lost that game, but I am so proud of the Yankees. This was a great season and those fans in rage or manifesting verbal violence towards our Team, are wrong. Great Season, no one in MLB expected the Yankees to be in the ALCS, some said not even in playoffs. So that’s that. Let’s appreciate our Team, not desecrate anyone. I feel sorry for those souls unable to appreciate the 2024 Yankees.
Thank you Jason for 161 River channel. You always keep us informed and your channel is the best. constructive criticism without bashing, as other "Yankee" channels do. Have a great off season and it will be interesting to see what the team does off season.Let's go Yankees! And continue to support 161 River Ave!!😊
If Soto expects Ohtani numbers I predict his free agency will be like the other Boras clients from this past offseason. It will drag on into spring training and maybe right up to the season. He is a generational offensive player but based on his defensive shortcomings he will be a DH with many years left on his contract. You don’t pay a DH Ohtani numbers
100 percent agree. Soto is fantastic hitter, but a horrible defender and lousy baserunner. Even 500 million might be too high for this guy, but the Yankees will probably be willing to pay that. If it gets too much higher, Hal Steinbrenner might balk at that. He's a lot more fiscally conservative than his dad. In the end, we'll see what happens. Have a good Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a happy New Year and see you in the spring!
I don't think it's a given that they get back to the world series next year. It's so hard to get there these days. And for an organization that's gone down the wrong path with their over emphasis on analytics, it could be years before they get back. Baseball is not complicated. But they make it harder on themselves.
what's really shocking we never saw Dominguez or Stroman in the playoffs and they were on the roster not even a chance they got. what was the sense of that even in a small role we didn't see them. this team needs to make a lot of improvements and i hope we make them. i wouldn't mind losing Soto so we could actually build the team with the money.
You know the roster construction was bad when the silver lining is that a lot of the guys aren't coming back 😂 Here's hoping for some real change next year!
It was so bad that they won the division and made it to the world series, such a terrible team that even the Chicago White Sox were a better constructed team than this joke( sic)
I will try to limit my rants to these two points. Any team that blows a five-run lead with their number one starter on the mound doesn't deserve to win a game, let alone a championship. Any person who's made a multi-millionaire by MLB should know how to catch a fly ball or cover a base. You summed it up perfectly: The New York Yankees beat themselves. Next year? Gotta keep Soto. He's a valuable part of this thing. Agree about the bullpen. Need some flame throwers. Would like to get Corbin Burnes but not if that prevents Soto coming back. Let Gleybar go. He got some hits in the post season but also committed a costly error (one of many during his tenure in pinstripes) and went 0 for 5 last night. Move Jazz to second (a suggestion you made that I wholeheartedly agree with) That's all I can think of. Will try to jump in if you go live on saturday.
I’m just starting to recover from last night. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. It’s hard to imagine going back to the WS next year when it’s looking like the team will be so different. One thing I’m looking at is NOT getting rid of Gleyber. Something changed when he got moved to lead off. He was one of our most reliable hitters in the postseason, and he had NO role in the 5th inning meltdown. Who would have thought the Yankees could have an inning like that and Gleyber would not be involved? He still makes mistakes, but he’s transformed himself. Maybe as a way to keep Soto, save money by keeping Gleyber. It’s just a thought.
He has to say that. He can’t say that there is a team he prefers. That would work against him and also make other teams think they don’t have a shot. He’s trying to get the most money. I’m not saying he wants to stay in NY but it would be foolish for him to say so.
This was a microcosm of the Yankees under Cashman and Boone. Poor roster construction. Bad on field decisions by Boone compounded by the country club atmosphere beginning in spring training leading to lackadaisical play in the field. All exposed in front of a national audience. The only question now is, will Hal be like his father and try to correct the errors, or will he be totally satisfied and say to Cash, "Good job."
The 2024 Yankees were not good in baseball fundamentals, defense, and baserunning, and this resulted in many losses for the Yankees in the playoffs as well as the regular season. The Yankees front office also needs to develop a high contact, low strikeout circular lineup, add two dominant starting pitchers, and sign Tanner Scott instead of resigning Clay Holmes. The Yankees should also let Gleyber Torres and Anthony Rizzo to leave.
Jason, Great channel. The Dodgers were the better team. The Yankees need a manager who is NOT their best friend but coaches them how to win with the help of his coaching staff. The Yankees fundamentals need work. Need to tighten up their defense and catch the baseball. Gerrit Cole was exhausted, and I definitely know that Luke weaver was exhausted too in his last appearance for the year. Yankees NEED to definitely re-sign soto because he is the Yankees future!! And I agree too get Soto input to make Yankees better if he wants to come back! Plus, I agree Luke Weaver could use better in quality bullpen help! I could go on and on but that's enough for now!
I honestly don't think that defense was a significant issue throughout the year but I did see some instances where there wasn't the best communication or familiarity btwn Verdugo and Judge in addition to Judge having negative CF defensive #'s. I think the run support/productivity is a more pressing issue.
It takes me a few days to shake off the disappointment. Baseball has the longest season and we start to get emotionally invested by mid to late March and then if your team is lucky they'll get to play for an additional month in the playoffs and by the time it's all over we're so emotionally drained.
I think the Yankees work the count way too much and allow center cut fastballs to go by. I think the difference in the last two games and why they hit and scored was it seemed they were hunting fastballs.
U know who I felt bad for A-Rod and Jeter watching that live and seeing debacle of 5th inning their team would have never made those kind of those plays in WS
Yeah the Yanks beat themselves, game 1 and game 5. In reality New York should be up 3-2. I just hope the missed catch by Judge doesn’t stick with him like Buckner’s missed ground ball. He had a pretty good career but is almost exclusively remembered for a ground ball between his legs. This is the first season I followed you, I didn’t know you covered football as well. Baseball is my game, I played and coached for the majority of my 50+ years on the planet. I love the strategy of the game and can recite player stats from 40 years ago. Football is my favourite sport to watch though. My friend and I for the last 40 years or more have got together every Sunday to watch the games. Now that we are older we get together every Sunday and make ridiculous bets on game lol
The Yankees need to address fundamentals. Base running and defense. I think it’s an organizational problem. The fifth inning highlighted those faulty fundamentals. They made these mistakes all year. But the WS displayed them for the baseball world.
Well according to Andy Martino the Yankees are bringing Boone back. And as for Soto, I sense he isn't returning. He said the Yankees do not have the advantage. So if they lose out on Soto, giving up those pitching prospects was all for nothing.
The last three batters in the bottom of the 9th could have done something we could have tied the game we were only down by one run and Verdugo swinging his way to the final out was just the cherry on top of this entire shitshow
We need better defense better base running 2 bullpen arms maybe more 1 starter maybe give more young players a chance in those areas keep Soto can Judge or Soto play 1st base if they can learn that position we can improve our outfield defense but they to be really want play it at high level maybe add Rizzio as coach it looks like he is done as player
The truth is we have had defensive struggles for the better part of three years now. This has to be addressed at an organizational level. It's a combination of acquiring players, drilling in fundamentals in the minors, and putting in the work as needed at the major league level. Cashman and Boone are capable of changing these things. Defense and baserunning have to drastically improve. That five-run unearned run can't happen.

I think all of us understand the team was short a couple players all year. LA, while dealing with injuries, was a much better equipped team to compete in the WS. However, the Yankee players experience of playing in the WS now puts an understanding, especially in the young players, of what they are playing for. In spring training next year, there is going to be desire to finish what they started. New players need to have a similar desire. Remember, spending money can't always create the desire to win. There are many good players in the system waiting for a chance to play. Let's not give them away for a veteran who may only be playing for a pay check. Management------choose wisely.
It all starts with soto get a lead off batter that can get on base and run don’t need to hit 300 and above average player to fill the other positions batter that can make contact and play defense with judge soto stanton we got power it will be very difficult to adress all the needs in this off season
The Cole mistake was the most serious.. They got the lead back but couldn't hold it. Weaver was overused all year. Holmes should have pitched the next inning to start imo.
Jason, in your opinion, what is the root cause of this years long void in baseball fundamentals? Is it coaching? Is it managing? Is it a team not being held accountable? A combination of all of it?
Jason, as a Dodger fan, of course, I'm excited about winning the World Series. But I know what it feels like to be on the other side of the fence, most recently in 2017, and 2018. I still have bad memories of the 1977 and 1978 World Series. I do feel for the Yankee fans out there, except for the two knuckleheads who nearly hurt Mookie Betts. That should never happen again, and those guys need some consequences so that someone else doesn't try that again. Fans and players should keep their hands off one another. You have a great channel, and I look forward to your offseason coverage. Never a dull moment. I do have one final question for you about the World Series. I agree that last night, the Yankees beat themselves. Are you saying that in Games 2 and 3, they beat themselves by not hitting? In Game 1, things like a walk off home run, that happens. Not much you can do once the manager makes the decision about who's pitching. If you could answer that question, I would very much appreciate it so I can be clear on your reasoning. Congratulations on an American League pennant, and a terrific season!
A lot of fans want Boone gone. What happened in the fifth inning when they fell apart was not his fault. Shit happens. I hope they don’t lose Cole and Soto. I will be a fan no matter what. Your podcast is great!
Have you been watching games all season long? This team has been making terrible defensive plays and errors all season long. It is the responsibility of the Manager and coaching staff to fix these issues. The lack of a team not having sound fundamentals is on the Manager and coaching staff and this is why fans have been calling for Boone's firing for many years now because this is the kind of play that has consistently gone on under Boone's leadership.
Just wondering if anyone else thought Boone should have gone to the mound and try and calm Cole down after the 2 errors, it might of made a difference on the next play where Cole forgot to cover first base.. Just wondering
Also, I think Juan Soto is a very good player, but to pay half a billion dollars for one player is crazy. Looking ahead the Yankees future teams will be handicapped by his large salary. I’d rather see the Yankees build a better team by using that money to get a good first and third baseman and a quality relief pitcher. And yes, build a great team by developing your minor league players.
Sadly, the Yanks played the playoffs much like the regular season.. stretches where they could not be beaten and then stretches where they should kick butt and couldn't even lift the foot. At least they didn't get swept. Sadly, Judge needs to play everyday and in playoffs.. days off are plenty and the time off between the ALCS and the World Series was just too long. Boone showed by I don't like him this year all too often, and sadly the world series appearance will make many believe he's better.. sadly, this team is one that should be tough to lose without a manager... Still, they got to the show and whiffed.. and I can name 14 other teams that would have given an arm to trade places with them. Now comes the off season and free agency. Which if it's like last year will make molassas flowing in winter look fast. this team just didn't want it enough.
As a fan since I was 14 years old, I have never seen anything like that ever. Yankees deserves to be ripped and dragged. I can tell some of these players play to win and others just doesn't care. Even Boone wasn't determined to win. He would continue to get outmanaged by other teams. He needs to go!
Yes they beat themselves. Frustrating and disappointing. Horrible 5th inning is where they beat themselves last night. Overall it was a good season with a horrible end. Take care Jason. I will be following you throughout the off-season.
If God forbid Juan Soto walks in free agency, I'd get Ryan McMahon and Alex Bregman as our new corner infielders. We definitely need to address third base, and I don't have a lot of faith in Ben Rice for first base. I think Dominguez will turn out okay, and he would definitely compensate for a hypothetical loss of Soto if he plays to his potential. If Soto goes, I'd bring back Verdugo as a stopgap outfielder until Spencer Jones is ready to come up and take his place. Hopefully Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells will continue to improve next year too. I agree on your choices for Ryan Helsley and Tanner Scott for the bullpen. I'd try to bring back Nathan Eovaldi for rotation depth and make a run at Roki Sasaki if he's posted this offseason.
No, Bregman is already 30 years of age. The Yankees need to trend their players to younger and more athletics. Yankees sign a lot of 30 and over players and it doesn't work out for them generally!
It started with Judge. He looked at the runner just as he was catching the ball. This threw his glove out of the path to catch it. This is a byproduct of a team that hustles and forces the play. This is why I’m always harping on these guys busting ass down the first base line. But all these clowns that are now saying Judge sucks are total schmucks. I wonder just how many of these “experts” ever played the game beyond in-town youth baseball.
So now the long national nightmare begins. No baseball until February. Only questions about about Soto, Cole, Stanton, Torres and Rizzo. Good Luck all until Spring Training. I'll only popin if something comes up. Like Juan Soto.
Fundamentally as unsound as it gets. Need much more than a $600+ million dollar bad outfielder. Cleaning house would be the prudent way to go. I’m sure the Fan base would be patient. I’d rather suck for a couple than be nationally exploited, embarrassing.
Yankees was fundamentally flawed team all season. that their identity all season. Fire coaches, especially Rojas. Girardi was better manager, had better fundamentals than Boone was. Their outfield positioning was bad, routes on ball, and routine play. also, infielders.
Yup absolutely the worst playoff game I've seen in my 47 years in watching the yanks I've seen blow outs but nothing like this mental and physical errors killed us
Leave it to the yankees to do what the yankees did last night. We went alot further than any of us thought possible back in June. Just remember for all those who defend or hate boone. He cant play the game, he certainly cant ground a routine ground ball to 1st to end an inning. Also Torres should be resigned. Rizzo can disappear, see ya dugo.. BIG G needs a raise, and Judge should not be paid attention to until Oct. when it matters most, he came up super small this post season. And well see how Cashman tinkers this roster to hopefully get back next season. Absolutely self inflicted loss. The dodgers didnt beat us we beat ourselves.
@@greghahs that’s why Hal don’t spend money on big players the dodgers almost have the same payroll as the Yankees who has owner spending on big players and look they are World Series champions if Hal stop being cheap then we could be a contender for years to come. As for the moment we might be going for a free fall
The yanks have been getting their buts kicked for far too long now. Hasn't been the same organization since 2004 collapse. I feel Boone had better teams than this one and fell short. This team was a bully team all year long. They wilt under pressure.
@Frankieefootballmundial that's the one saving grace. All because of George and his old school baseball minds he kept around. If this embarrassment doesn't compel his son to go all in, nothing will.
@@Frankieefootballmundial I remember Utley being a pain in the neck that series. He did kind of what Freeman did. He hit a bunch of homers in that series if I remember correctly
It really annoyed me seeing Judge smile and chuckle at the post game interview. He really irritates me. There is absolutely nothing to smile about be angry for once dude. We will never win a WS with him 🤦🏾♂️
Tommy K, awful, bullpen was really in need of more moves. Who cares at this point, what I waste of my time and emotionally energy all year. Disappointed, Yankees should have won Game 1 and last night.
Frustrating too, that even after the 5th inning, we regained the lead and couldn’t hold it…

That was a painful end to a great season. I am glad I was dead wrong that they'd win 84 games and miss the playoffs. Let's resign Soto!
Fortitude
Just wondering if anyone else thought Boone should have gone to the mound and try and calm Cole down after the 2 errors, it might of made a difference on the next play where Cole forgot to cover first base.. Just wondering
Also, I think Juan Soto is a very good player, but to pay half a billion dollars for one player is crazy. Looking ahead the Yankees future teams will be handicapped by his large salary. I’d rather see the Yankees build a better team by using that money to get a good first and third baseman and a quality relief pitcher. And yes, build a great team by developing your minor league players.
Can we pry Bobby Witt Jr loose from KC?
Which if it's like last year will make molassas flowing in winter look fast. this team just didn't want it enough.
bring back Tim Hill i like him solid i thought Boone should have used him more
Clay Homes should be traded
Good year but not great. Decisions have to be made that will bring in youth; energy; and ballers
Soto didn’t sound very enthusiastic about coming back he was very evasive in the post game questions. He only cares about $
As a fan since I was 14 years old, I have never seen anything like that ever.
Thank Jason Yankees brass me to start getting together and not let Soto go.
@@vrj40 that’s what I’m saying we might have to tank in 2025 and be proactive to sign altuve, Paul sknes in 2026
Awful way to bid farewell to Cole, Soto, Rizzo, Gleyber, Clay, etc. But we need a big overhaul to wipe the stench of G5.
Would like to keep especially Soto and Cole though. The rest cut ties with!
What was he supposed to do start crying you win and you lose that baseball
Fundamentally as unsound as it gets. Need much more than a $600+ million dollar bad outfielder. Cleaning house would be the prudent way to go. I’m sure the Fan base would be patient. I’d rather suck for a couple than be nationally exploited, embarrassing.
Yankees was fundamentally flawed team all season. that their identity all season. Fire coaches, especially Rojas. Girardi was better manager, had better fundamentals than Boone was. Their outfield positioning was bad, routes on ball, and routine play. also, infielders.
I truly believe the Dodgers would have crumbled if they went back to LA
@@NosebleedSection405 they still would’ve won cause then you face Yamamoto and triden will be well rested
yes....they beat themselves like they did all year....worst baserunning and fielding teeam in the league all year
Yup absolutely the worst playoff game I've seen in my 47 years in watching the yanks I've seen blow outs but nothing like this mental and physical errors killed us
Leave it to the yankees to do what the yankees did last night.
The defensive flaws are on the manager.
Soto will be a Dodger! They shouldn’t be allowed to manipulate there payroll like they did when they got Shohei
@@Anthony__420 But it’s legal and Ohtani offered the same plan to the Giants and blue jays and they didn’t do it dodgers say we all in and willing to
It all falls on management. Time to back up the truck. And as for Soto coming back he's not..spend it elsewhere. Pitching pitching pitching pitching.
More contact hitters too
@Frankieefootballmundial same thing every year dude but what they gave up for Soto could have helped plan for next year.
@@greghahs that’s why Hal don’t spend money on big players the dodgers almost have the same payroll as the Yankees who has owner spending on big players and look they are World Series champions if Hal stop being cheap then we could be a contender for years to come. As for the moment we might be going for a free fall
@Frankieefootballmundial I see the mid 80's early 90's coming
@@greghahs they could become a last place team next season
its over. tank next season and rebuild team. teams division will be better. its hard for Yankees to get back to WS next year.
i hope they be last place next season
@@blaze455-vm9cb same thing I agree cause I got no hope in 2025 and we have to sign altuve and Paul sknes in 2026
The yanks have been getting their buts kicked for far too long now. Hasn't been the same organization since 2004 collapse. I feel Boone had better teams than this one and fell short. This team was a bully team all year long. They wilt under pressure.
Except for 2009 when we won it cause the lineup was stacked and only three starting pitchers
@Frankieefootballmundial that's the one saving grace. All because of George and his old school baseball minds he kept around. If this embarrassment doesn't compel his son to go all in, nothing will.
@@n.blacke1948 do you remember the chase utley home run in game 4
@@Frankieefootballmundial I remember Utley being a pain in the neck that series. He did kind of what Freeman did. He hit a bunch of homers in that series if I remember correctly
Soto is going to queens... you're not outbiding a billionaire and the mets smell blood in the water
@@rickshelton1955 the dodgers are poised for a dynasty their lineup will be stacked and their starting pitching will be nasty next year
It really annoyed me seeing Judge smile and chuckle at the post game interview. He really irritates me. There is absolutely nothing to smile about be angry for once dude. We will never win a WS with him 🤦🏾♂️
Not enough fight in this team.
Tommy K, awful, bullpen was really in need of more moves. Who cares at this point, what I waste of my time and emotionally energy all year. Disappointed, Yankees should have won Game 1 and last night.
Painful series. Sloppy baseball. Get back to the basics.
