I feel like every year these holiday dolls just look cheaper and cheaper. I thought it was a joke when I saw the price on the Mattel creations store. It's brilliant that Mattel wants to put the effort in to make sure that these doll lines are more diverse but it's just such a shame that because of that the quality is taking a huge hit. why can't we have both 😭. Also there's definitely a model muse body that is just Barbie standing straight with no bent legs or pose but they just don't use it for some reason. I could be wrong but I think that the last time they used it was for one of the basic target dolls, or maybe it was for a Barbie look doll before they switched to the made to move.
I agree, these days the Barbie 'signature' dolls look like the same quality as play line dolls but with a much higher price. Even the plastic they're using for the dolls looks cheap. Mattel isn't even trying anymore. 🙄
Yeah they should bring back the glamour of the Happy Holidays doll. I don't know why they ended that line as the Holiday doll's that they have now are probably more ethincally diverse which is very important. However the dresses now are just blah bland, boring. Also they used to sell brooches, jewellery boxes & decorative plates etc. But with the Holiday line they are just selling the dolls & the hallmarks christmas decorations only.
Quality hasn't taken a dip so they can make more diverse dolls, it's got nothing to do with that. Quality has taken a dip because they make more money that way.
I love the petal shapes on the dress I just wish that it had some accent colors to give it more detail and to make it look more dimensional. It would have been so cool if the tulle underneath was green. I'm loving the red hair too. It's been a while since I got a holiday Barbie, but I might have to get her 😍.
Yes the poinsettia flower inspiration is great but they should have added green and gold accents to make it more clearly ‘holiday’. This looks like a great starting point for a customizer to work off of though. This could have been the first customizable holiday Barbie
The red haired is the best one this time. I love how her hair looks with this dress and the make-up, the quality and taste is getting way better from the last three or four years of Holiday dolls, the face sculpt is cute and beautiful. But still there's so much room for improvement to even reach the quality of the 90's and the 2000's Holiday Barbies. I agree that she is missing some dew drops or rhinestones or some printing or even glitter in silver or gold... but the lack of details doesn't bother me too much this time because the shape and size of the dress is almost perfect and that saves it, I love how well it fits the model muse body especially around the waist. I'm also surprised that the petals of the skirt arent made of that cheap fabric like the underskirt, It's collector material finally. I wish they'd put the same effort for the Disney Princess dolls, one can only dream...
I think you are right about the dress. While it is really beautiful, it misses...something. After having seen your review, I am tempted to buy one of the dolls just for the dress. Maybe to spruce it up a bit and try some different shoes.

Congrats getting the red head I know a lot of collectors missed her on Walmart. I’m happy there’s 1 with black hair this year as well since I think the other 3 versions are similar to other years 🤔. Yes! In the States she was a Walmart exclusive. I think she must have sold out the same day she went online for sale through the Walmart website! I received the blonde one for a birthday present and love her although i wish we could get the red head here! I also find that the plainess of her dress actually looks a lot more elegant/refined than adding lots of extras that can make them look cheap and nasty. Super jealous or your girl!
The redhead is a Walmart exclusive. I ordered her the other day on eBay. Can’t wait for this doll to come at my mail. Mattel had gotten cheaper with the Holiday Barbie for the last 6 years. But this facemold are like the breath of the air, she and the brunette are the better ones for this year.

I can't even tell you how obsessed I was as soon as I saw this doll's promo pics. I'm also in the UK (London btw), and I'd never have got her without Simon's Collectibles. I said how badly I wanted her and he actually put one aside for me. He's amazing for us UK doll collectors. I absolutely adore her, she's my fave doll that's been released in a LONG time! I haven't unboxed her but I want a second one to unbox and reroot with a different hair colour. ❤️

Thank you for posting this video because I seen the red-headed Holly Barbie on the back of one of the other Barbie's boxes you know in the picture of my show all the Holly Barbies.when I went back to Target I only seen the four of them and I didn't see the red-headed growing where so I figured I may have made her up and I was disappointed. As a really young girl she probably look the most like me with the long red hair as a little girl I had hair round her shade.
They should have given her a pretty hair decoration, and some pretty, dangle fancy earrings. Her dress needs some glitter, sparkles etc. Its just so boring to me. The model muse body again? Now I do love her face mold and her hair color! I might try to find her, she needs some more detail to make her pop.

Hunty, all Barbies have to be produced a year before they go to market. Superstar Barbie came out in 1978 but was made in 1977. The back of her head reflects that. You'll notice that on all your Barbies. Barbie and the Rockers maybe the exception. I don't have any of those in my collection to check, but you do I think if I remember correctly.

The dress is better than the past couple of years that looked so cheap. The older dress from 1989 I think, was red with gold and has the poinsettias on it. I luv her red hair.

I love her! And I do echo your sentiment on the model muse body. While I believe it’s beautifully sculpted, it’s a tad overused and doesn’t offer much in the articulation department. There needs to be more consistency with the body type used within the collector/signature range. I would love to see the model muse pivotal body used more, it offers the the same silhouette of the static model muse body, but much more dynamic in articulation; elbows, wrists, knees, torso, etc. The 90s twist n turn body should only be reserved for repros and throwbacks and the current pivotal play line body should not be used in the signature collection, AT ALL.
The dress does look unfinished. It's really missing details. The dewdrop idea is good. I mean, it's Barbie... she is supposed to be the standard. Also, I can't with Holiday Dolls, at the price point, not having articulation.
Yeah luckily I didn’t have to pay for her but if I did I would want better quality. The Barbie Rewind line is the same price and has much better articulation
I'm glad you were able to get her. I've been checking Walmart every day and they are always out of stock. I always get the holiday doll, I have every one since '88. I really want the red head but will probably have to settle for one of the others. I even have a friend who works for the store, and In the Toy department, checking for me, and so far his store hasn't gotten it either. I went to Simon's and even there they ask way to much for the red head. I'm not going to spend $84 for a brand new doll when the others in the line are $39. I'm even miffed at Mattel for not having her on their site. Out of all of them, to me, she's the prettiest, but like other people, I'll have to settle for one of the other dolls. Not all of us have that kind of money to get a seasonal "play line" doll. Although I collect the doll, I feel badly for the parents trying to get her for their child. I use to work for Walmart and it was the dealers that caused the problem with these kind of dolls. Like my friend, I was a stocker in the toy department and the dealers would come in and buy entire boxes of toys, like Hot Wheels, just to get the Treasure Hunt out. Then get their money back on the other cars. I'll keep looking for her but I will probably have to give up on getting the red head. I wish each doll had a different design with the gown like they did with Love, Hope and Peace a few years ago. I have all three of those Barbie's.
I got this doll when they were first in stock at Walmart. I took her out of the box and gave her a made to move body and restyled her. She is so darn cute! You are so right that the dress does look better in person, but it still needs something to jazz it up. Now I am just waiting for Walmart to restock her so I can get more!!!
They should have hemmed the petals in the same ribbon at the neck... Added dew drop pearls to the petals and put some glitter veining design on them and perhaps some glitter on the under skirt... Its just so much red with no accent... Ppl could use it as a good custom canvas though
AAAAHHH!!!! I'm fangirling so much!!! I remember seeing another poinsettia inspired holiday Barbie dress in the past and thinking that the idea had potential that wasn't fully realized. This dress does it. It's so much more elegant and shows off the dramatic beauty of the poinsettia. I don't care that it's another red ballgown because it specifically takes inspiration from classic holiday imagery instead of just being a generic red dress. Golden sparkles/pearls would look pretty but I don't think it's necessary for the dress to look good. I'm so glad I like this doll. I got a new apartment this year and so buying this doll can be a fun milestone for that. Much better than recent years!

It would be nice if every year there is a theme of the holiday, Barbie like snowflake, theme, Christmas bell theme, candy, cane, theme, Santa, theme, or a Christmas tree etc. it is cool how they did a poinsettia but yet it just looks plain with no extra colour or nothing it’s just a plain red ball gown.
The face is very pretty and I love the red hair. I believe white pearls at the end of the petals would've looked better. I wish she had more articulation.

This dress is very similar theme wise and packaging wise as 1993 holiday Barbie. A lazy update? Also some fun facts: last time Holiday Barbie wore green was 2011 and the only time she’s worn blue was in 2016. My personal favorites are 1994, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2006.
If you look at any toy, the dates on the box are the design year and are usually the year before they are released because as you say it takes a long time to do the design, get prototypes and get them into production. That can lead to a lot of confusion sometimes.
I agree with every idea you had of ways to make the dress more interesting. It's resoundingly... fine. If they ever get real cheap on clearance, I want some of them to restyle because the faces are great, but seeing as I don't have an existing holiday barbie collection, they're just not worth the $45 as is.

I paid £60 for her in the UK and was more than happy to. She's a standout doll.

As far as I am aware though it is a xmas plant as it's available at xmas time.

OMG, I was able to order the Limited Edition Advent Calendar Xmas 1950s Barbie Signature with Dark Hair! She was almost 200$!
The dress does look unfinished. It's really missing details. The dewdrop idea is good. I mean, it's Barbie... she is supposed to be the standard. Also, I can't with Holiday Dolls, at the price point, not having articulation.
Yeah luckily I didn’t have to pay for her but if I did I would want better quality. The Barbie Rewind line is the same price and has much better articulation

I'm glad you were able to get her. I've been checking Walmart every day and they are always out of stock. I always get the holiday doll, I have every one since '88. I really want the red head but will probably have to settle for one of the others. I even have a friend who works for the store, and In the Toy department, checking for me, and so far his store hasn't gotten it either. I went to Simon's and even there they ask way to much for the red head. I'm not going to spend $84 for a brand new doll when the others in the line are $39. I'm even miffed at Mattel for not having her on their site. Out of all of them, to me, she's the prettiest, but like other people, I'll have to settle for one of the other dolls. Not all of us have that kind of money to get a seasonal "play line" doll. Although I collect the doll, I feel badly for the parents trying to get her for their child. I use to work for Walmart and it was the dealers that caused the problem with these kind of dolls. Like my friend, I was a stocker in the toy department and the dealers would come in and buy entire boxes of toys, like Hot Wheels, just to get the Treasure Hunt out. Then get their money back on the other cars. I'll keep looking for her but I will probably have to give up on getting the red head. I wish each doll had a different design with the gown like they did with Love, Hope and Peace a few years ago. I have all three of those Barbie's.

I got this doll when they were first in stock at Walmart. I took her out of the box and gave her a made to move body and restyled her. She is so darn cute! You are so right that the dress does look better in person, but it still needs something to jazz it up. Now I am just waiting for Walmart to restock her so I can get more!!!
They should have hemmed the petals in the same ribbon at the neck... Added dew drop pearls to the petals and put some glitter veining design on them and perhaps some glitter on the under skirt... Its just so much red with no accent... Ppl could use it as a good custom canvas though
AAAAHHH!!!! I'm fangirling so much!!! I remember seeing another poinsettia inspired holiday Barbie dress in the past and thinking that the idea had potential that wasn't fully realized. This dress does it. It's so much more elegant and shows off the dramatic beauty of the poinsettia. I don't care that it's another red ballgown because it specifically takes inspiration from classic holiday imagery instead of just being a generic red dress. Golden sparkles/pearls would look pretty but I don't think it's necessary for the dress to look good. I'm so glad I like this doll. I got a new apartment this year and so buying this doll can be a fun milestone for that. Much better than recent years!

It would be nice if every year there is a theme of the holiday, Barbie like snowflake, theme, Christmas bell theme, candy, cane, theme, Santa, theme, or a Christmas tree etc. it is cool how they did a poinsettia but yet it just looks plain with no extra colour or nothing it’s just a plain red ball gown.
I would love to see someone fix this dress ! Like add the dew drops and whatnot to it to see what it COULD have been 💜💜💜
The face is very pretty and I love the red hair. I believe white pearls at the end of the petals would've looked better. I wish she had more articulation.

This dress is very similar theme wise and packaging wise as 1993 holiday Barbie. A lazy update?
Also some fun facts: last time Holiday Barbie wore green was 2011 and the only time she’s worn blue was in 2016.
My personal favorites are 1994, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2006.

If you look at any toy, the dates on the box are the design year and are usually the year before they are released because as you say it takes a long time to do the design, get prototypes and get them into production. That can lead to a lot of confusion sometimes.
I agree with every idea you had of ways to make the dress more interesting. It's resoundingly... fine. If they ever get real cheap on clearance, I want some of them to restyle because the faces are great, but seeing as I don't have an existing holiday barbie collection, they're just not worth the $45 as is.
