  • I can find no reference as to who Miss Turpin may have been. The copyright date is 1898.
Edouard (Edward) d'Evry FRCO, FTCL (6 June 1869 - 25 December 1950) was an organist and composer. He was Assistant Organist of the Brompton Oratory, London from 1893 to 1899, and Organist there from 1899 to 1935.
He preceded Ralph Downes as Organist of the Brompton Oratory and wrote a number of pieces for organ in varying styles over a period of more than 50 years. He was also Controller of Examinations for the Trinity College of Music in London. His choral setting of O sacrum convivium is often performed to this day.

This lovely tranquil piece, so sensitively played, really should be better known! There is another beautiful Meditation, this time in F, published in the Novello "Recital Series", which I have also played (and much enjoyed).
Miss Florence Elizabeth Turpin (born December 1857 London, died July 1925, Bath) was the daughter of the London organist and composer Edmund H. Turpin (1835-1907). Edward d'Evry was a pupil of his, and lived with the Turpin family for 15 years. Their house was in Argyle Square, near St Pancras Station.

An appealing piece which will prove to be well-liked by organists and congregations alike. This sensitive performance gives me the incentive to learn it. Thank you for posting this...
