Thanks, I'm glad to help! A bit of advice: Make the plates the exact same width as a credit card, and 1/8" longer than a credit card. And make the grooves for the band very shallow (about 1/16" or maybe even a little less). That will be the best size for the function of the wallet. Good luck!

I've seen tons of these... no shit, for real, this here one beats them all, hands down. Good job, bruh! Excellent design details... I love how the inward chamfers allow for easy card insertion, AND the fanning of the entire "deck" of cards for easy selection - I really gotta tellya, that is sublime genius! Thank you for this video - excellently descriptive/informative, even in the stitching of the band (whether by hand or mech) - kickass content! I'mma subscribe just 'cause of this here singular vid! :)

I've actually been making slim wallets for years, so all of those little details that make it work have been hard earned through blood sweat and tears. I'm not sure 😂. I actually started a small company that sells slim wallets, but was thinking of Kickstarting this one to add it to my line up....I just need a small CNC to be able to make it faster.

Yeah, I've considered building one as a project for the channel, but I'm on the fence about it. Maybe down the road a bit....we'll see!

I thought there was going to be more to a wallet than just two sides wrapped in an elastic band. But the way it has turned out was quite nice. I liked the idea. Thanks for sharing.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. It has a very small number of components, but it’s actually quite complex. I’ve been making wallets like this for years now, and you’d be surprised at how the tiniest detail can make it perform poorly, or how the wrong stitching will cause the band to fall apart in a matter of days. Without the “stitch groove” for example, the stitch will cause the band to work its way off the notch, and then the wallet will fall apart. It took dozens of plate prototypes, and months worth of stitching and testing those plates & stitches to come up with something that would perform well, and last a long time. It’s been a labor of love...or maybe an obsession 😆 Thanks for taking the time to let me know what you thought about!

Oh my god, the fact you mentioned guitar or bass players talking about copper foil tape is killing me hahahaha!! Another place you can get it is at your local garden or greenhouse nursery kinda place. Apparently people wrap their plant pots with that adhesive copper foil to keep snails and slugs out of them.
A marginally more expensive solution but might look nicer is conductive paint. It's a matte black paint solution that us guitar techs like using because it's easier to work with, but it might also block RFID signals and look a hell of a lot better. I have no idea though.
Why not just use tin foil if it just have to be conductive

The only change I’ll make: I’m a goldsmith and I’m going to make it out of (cheap) metal. It’s sturdier, I’ve got more experience and tools for it AND it means I won’t need the copper tape anyway.

Fantastic joband an exelent wallet
One small addition that I would make would be a shallow recess for the copper tape so that the cards don’t eventually wear it out.
Good observation! I actually have that on my commercially available wallets (see ardntshop.com), but felt like it would be too tough to nail the depth in this wooden version...at least without a cnc machine. It's holding up well though, I think the fact that I trimmed it with a knife helps. It ever so slightly plunges the edge copper into the wood when you trim it with a knife, making it harder for the cards to catch an edge. Again, so far, it has no signs of wear or lifting an edge, so we'll see! Thanks for taking the time to give some feedback!

just use 2 thinner slabs of wood and sandwich the copper inside. glue cross grain. cut the copper slightly smaller. my 2¢

It looks great, I really like the minimalist design. One question though - wouldn't the copper tape come off or shred after some time of sliding the cards in and out?
I don't think so - this is the same technique I use on my commercial line of wallets (see ardntshop.com), and I've never once had a customer say the tape has come off....it's pretty aggressive adhesive.
Curious about the effectiveness of the RFID blocking. Have you tested it?
It would have been nice to see a simple test such as trying to tap to pay or using a door lock card with the card in the wallet. Successful tap = Fail, Failed tap = Pass
I've tested it, but never recorded it. I try to remember to do it next time I'm at a store that has a tap to pay reader. Thanks for the suggestion!

What’s the business you started? My brothers both just started using slim wallets like this and I am looking for a “field wallet” silo mar to use while in uniform. Mine has fallen apart and gets bulky as it.

i experimented last year with making a card holder from plywood it failed after a few months. my 2nd versions is gonna be similar to the one you made here but you have gave me a lot more tips on the small details to make it work better.
I actually have a small company that makes wallets...this wallet, and all those small details, are the result of years worth of prototypes while trying to get the wallet company (which is called ardnt) started. Another detail that I don't think I covered in the video is to make this wallet exactly as wide a credit card, but .125" longer than a credit card. This gives enough room for the grooves that hole the band in place at the ends, but no room on the sides, which makes it easier to keep the cards aligned, and to get them out. I hope this helps!

If you're looking for me to advise you on how to setup for manufacturing, as stated on the template you downloaded, it is for personal use only - not commercial. I hope this helps!
One Minute Workbench I was just asking if you could like tell me the bare minimum tools I need to make them quickly, I used a colony saw but that takes way to long and it’s inaccurate.
I'm not sure what a colony saw is...I tried looking on Google, but didn't really find anything. Can you describe it? Another thing to think about is that you could make this using only hand tools, but that will also take a while. There can sometimes be joy in taking your time though - something to think about!

How long does it take to make one of these?
Did you test the RFID blocking? One sheet of copper tape doesn't seem enough to me.
I was planning to do this out of sheet copper, but the wood is neat too as long as the RFID blocking works.
I’ve tested it at “tap to pay” locations and key card readers. So far so good!
@@OneMinuteWorkbench Cheap card readers, like the ones in grocery stores and some lower end door scanners, have trouble reading multiple cards at once. For example if you have two hotel key cards with different codes on them and try to scan them both at once the door likely won't open.
Higher end card readers, like the ones skimmers use, can scan multiple cards at once unless they are shielded. They're also more powerful than the touch and go ones, they can scan from several feet away instead of just inches. So if you're worried about that kind of problem then you'll want to make doubly sure the shielding is good.
Did you try with just one card in the wallet?
Do you think it would work if I made one from concrete using your wood one as a mold in silicone?
it would need mesh and need to be coated with something. concrete is quite weak except for it's hardness

I’m glad you found the video entertaining…I’m not sure what your first comment was, but I am curious 🧐. The address field is a standard on my website template, not something I created (or even want). You can enter a fake address if that helps ease your mind 🙂
But the cards will touch each other and ruin each other with time and friction.
Where do you buy the bands
I make them from elastics straps found at fabric stores.
I love the wallet you made, you should take it a step further and add popular logos on them like those found in video games, scifi, adult cartoons, etc.

You can just superglue the elastic. Cyanoacrylate actually melts the latex and becomes plastic when it dries, chemically bonding the elastic together, no special sewing required. No, it isn’t pliable like latex, but if you’re stretching it hard enough to break it, you have too many cards in that wallet.
Also, “RFID Blocking” is a hoax. Less than 10% of CCs are even equipped with it (having a “chip” is not the same as RFID) and all of those made after 2010 are all encrypted, “hackers” on the street literally can’t steel your info with RFID, and there hasn’t been a single case of RFID theft in over a decade.
Add a money clip and something to keep the cards from falling out the back and you’re in business... when I look at that thing, all I can hear is the never-ending “tap” to keep it all jogged straight. If you’re going to “copy” someone else’s design, at least make it competitive... if you actually look at a Ridge wallet, the elastic is only exposed on the edges, sandwiched between two panels, it’s not just a rubber band around a stack of cards... nice try though.

Ah, I see. What you're perceiving as one cracked plate is actually just the space between the two plates. The plates are separate, and I had them clamped right next to each other in the vise. Does that make sense?

You don't need a card...if it's asking you for a card, it may be because your browser added in a "buy now" button. Apple Pay does that sometimes, Google Chrome, Android Pay, Google Wallet, etc. If you just use the "add to cart" button, and then proceed to checkout, you'll be fine. If that doesn't work, send me an email through the website, and I'll make sure you get a copy. I hope this helps!

My two cents : 1) I think the copper layers might need some kind of minimal protection to prevent being worn out. 2) I would add grooves/chamfers to guide the elastic on both ends. 3) I would add some plate (thin hard plastic/another wood slice to protect banknotes) 4) I would find a way to wrap it all up in a plastic watertight protection (for rainy days or sweating days) 5) To prevent losing it, I would craft a cord strap through both wooden plates (which would have to be lengthened may be to allow placing a hole for the cord) What's your take on this?
