You winning that tournament for me was one of the most iconic moments in hearthstone. So many standard players were smack talking the wild guys. It was the best.
Really want to watch it now! But I can't seem to find it. Do you remember which tournament that was? EDIT: Never mind, I think I got it. The History of Hearthstone tournament, back in 2018, right?
Deathstalker Rexxar was absolutely my favourite archetype of hunter and it is a shame that control hunter never came back with the same force as it had back in knights of the frozen throne.
control hunter. Bro. Hunter never had and still dont any aoe, heal, taunt, armor. He may received some removals, there is no way to say "control hunter". Big hunter is a thing, combo/deathrattle hunter is a thing. But any way, it kills you way before turn 10. Or at least turn 10. The most competitive list on a scaling hunter was mech/darkmoon. And it still doing well as a strong and unknown combo.. but it kills on turn 7. The reason why control hunter never existed, and why deathstalker couldnt realy fit anytime... It's because hunter doesnt lack value. Every hunter, even the most braindead big hunter is about all in. And, even in this one where you can miss some value, rather deal dmg to finish off than try to play the board. So, i'm sorry bro. But, by definition, hunter isnt and will never get called control. Any amount of value he has got to go face asap. It's just easier to face with 1 drops.
? Deathstalker Rexxar was virtually unplayable for KotFT and KnC. It took Witchwood adding lifesteal beasts to the pool (mainly the rush one) for the card to see play.
@@amethonys2798 technically KotFT had bloodworm but your main point still stands as paying 5 mana for 4/4 and lifesteal was not good especially compared to 1 mana 2/1 lifesteal or 2 mana 1/3 rush and lifesteal. Witchwood also gave other rush options including one with echo which was pretty big
@@amethonys2798 Yeah the only Lifesteal beast in Frozen throne was that terrible blood worm. Definitely improved a little with KnC and that the 1 mana Lifesteal beast but that 1/3 Lifesteal rush pushed it into actually good for sure.
Yes that one’s cool! I think smothering starfish was a bigger deal than that one though. I haven’t played it since the nerf but I imagine even with the nerf it’s really useful, especially with all the mammoths and crabs that are offered. Pelican Diver is also pretty neat as an “untouchable” second-pick minion that you can play while you have poisonous dreadscale in-play as a punishment if they remove the dreadscale, OR when you have a tundra rhino (or zombeast equivalent) in-hand for a big finisher. Even better is if it *is* the tundra rhino zombeast, or any other super valuable ongoing text like the spooder that makes deathrattle cards cost 2 less
Haven’t watched yet, but the weirdest additions to rexxar are helmet hermit and that 1 mana 4/1 diving bird in the 2nd pick, and frozen mammoth available in BOTH first and second picks. For the latter I put explosive trap and explosive shot in my deck.
Post-watch: wow all of these showed up except helmet hermit! Surprised Dane didn’t note how weird they were since most people don’t consider “dormant for 1 turn” or “frozen until you play a fire spell” to be keywords
@@ShuckleShellAnemia Dormant and Frozen are definitely keywords though. Bolded and everything innit. Otherwise I agree with you, especially on the Mammoth being in both buckets
@@kourii Dormant is a weird case though because it includes a qualifier for when it stops being dormant, whereas if a beast says “has taunt while you have 2 other minions” that would definitely put it in the “text” bucket even though taunt is a keyword. Not saying pelican is a “bug”, just… unusual. It also has weird visual bugs because the go dormant/wake up animations sometimes trigger animations the “base” beast uses for other things lol.
I have a midrange(?) deathrattle hunter that uses Rexxar as one of its value generators for the late game. It's definitely remained my favourite hero card.
There are actually specific exclusions to DK rexxar. 6 mana beasts and higher can’t be discovered, as that could have led to cards that were too expensive. Additionally, any beast with card text and key words together can’t be discovered. An instance of this would be witchwood grizzly- the taunt beast that has battlecry: lose one health for each card in your opponent’s hand. (I think thats the effect)
Deathstalker Rexxar vids will forever be in my top favorite Hearthstone content. I wish they would rotate back death knights into standard somehow but I know some of them were too op vs. others so it's but a dream.
I started playing back in Un'Guro, and I absolutely loved Quest hunter, when Frozen Throne came out, I got deathstalker as my free Death Knight, and it's the most fun I've ever had playing hearthstone
In the history of hearthstone pro's you have like 6 guys who all claimed to be the originator of handlock and said they're a genius for it. You though, you have made and continue to make the most Innovative wild decks along with the funnest. Love you man. Thanks for being an original innovator instead of piggybacking off obvious deck lists for clout.
Sadly it is so slow. You're going to fail behind on tempo by playing the deathknight instead of gaining an advantage. Clearing the enemy board and then not doing anything as Hunter is not very good
Build-a-beast never preferred class cards, even when Discover effects did. In fact, Build-a-Beast offering Hunter and Neutral cards is hard-coded, so even if you swap or copy the hero power as a non-Hunter, the power will work the same.
It’s very enjoyable, do you have the questline? I disenchanted it when it was nerfed but there’s a fun deck you can do that tutors out Rexx then sets build-a-beast to 0-mana.
My goal day 1 of this expansion was to stitch Red Herring and another beast. The minion would be called Zombeast (not Red Herring) so my theory was that it would stealth itself and all your other minions for a perma-stealthing board, but I don't think they included it
The hero power is only able to stitch together beasts of 5 or less mana. If it wasn't capped you could end up screwed with a bunch of cards you can't play
Before questline nerf I was playing a questline deck that tutors Rexx out (typically using that scholomance dude that re-orders your deck) so I can build zombeasts for 0 mana. Top end was explosive shot so I can guarantee quest progress after rexx and to thaw out mammoth zombeasts, bottom end was that 0 mana spell that makes a beast poisonous so I could dredge it with the wep and make God Zombeasts
Well... Anduin is still playable for Raza decks. Malfurion was played up until Guff became the new defacto Druid Hero. Gul'dan is still nutty. Uther is awkward because it is basically just about the OTK (Which is clunky and slow compared to most Wild OTK's)... Jaina and Valeera could be playable with buffs, since their main problem is they're too slow. Lowered mana cost and better Battlecries could help them see play. Rexxar also has the issue of being slow, perhaps he could also do with similar buff. Garrosh and Thrall are kind of just bad. Maybe a cheaper Garrosh might be playable in Enrage Warrior. Thrall is a meme even for Evolve decks (Especially since summoning a totem is actually useful as it gives an extra target for your Evolves compared to Thrall's HP of needing something in play to evolve)
@@GaussianEntity If this happens, for Rexxar specifically going back to Standard might be good enough of a buff. I feel like it suffers a lot from the beast pool being too diluted in Wild.
Definite missed lethal in the 1st game, and the opponent realized it when they emoted at 4:38. Should have played Draka before the Prize Plunderer so Plunderer would have done 1 more damage to the taunt, then the taunt could be cleared by the 3/3 dagger leaving 11 damage to go face for lethal. The bad ordering meant he had to overkill the Taunt and was 1 short of lethal.
I generally hate rng card creation, Rexxar is the exception, and the only reason for that is that he creates experiences which are not possible without him
Deathstalker Rexxar is still one of the most unique cards.
I keep track of all the beasts they print every expansion and miniset, hoping they'd be OP with another one stitched onto them by Rexxar
