Inside A Country Without COVID-19 #1: Are there STILL Countries Without Coronavirus?! (May 2020)

  • Are there countries without Coronavirus? What does life in a country without COVID-19 look like? And… how on earth did I end up on one of them?!
** More photos and videos on my Instagram as I go through 1.5 years worth of videos and images of my accidental life in Tonga. @tongadiaries **
This is a longer video where I cover a few different things surrounding countries without Coronavirus/Covid-19, including which countries currently (May 2020) don’t have any Covid-19 reported cases, reasons as to why there are countries without Coronavirus, and is life in a country without coronavirus like we remember it in 2019?
Spoiler alert, but that’s a big solid no.
I also spend a while in this video discussing my experiences since January that brought me to Tonga where I have been stranded for almost 2 months.
    - Intro
    - (1:05) Are there countries without Coronavirus?
    - (2:19) I take my time to tell my story on how I ended up here, starting from January - May 2020.
    - (12:04) Tonga on lockdown, journeying to become officially a Corona-virus free country, and what life is like in a country without Covid-19.
    - (14:35) Cyclone Harold hits my house and takes a few of my things.
    - (18:30) Is Coronavirus affection countries without Coronavirus?
    - (20:06) All the other countries without Coronavirus, and how they may have achieved this.
One thing that I don’t touch upon in this video is one difficulty I’m coming to terms with.
A paradise island is much less of a paradise once you’re stuck on it.
It may look amazing and I’m grateful for where I am in a country without the virus, and living right by the sea. I mean, check out that background. But I’m far from anything I’ve ever called home, I have no friends here, no family, I’m both locked in here and locked out of the country I live in, and locked out of the country I work in. The news of North Korea closing in January was a big hit but it feels like such a distant memory. I have many friends in that country, and I can’t even contact them or check they’re OK.
I try to stay positive. I’m not saying this to get sympathy, but it’s also difficult when people tell me how lucky I am to be here and that there “are worse places”. It’s a nice reflection to be grateful of where you are right now. Many of you are stuck at home with family and friends, which may suck, you may have lost your job, maybe you’ve lost loved ones. Cherish the things around you. Don’t be jealous of me here, trust me.
Sorry for the bitchy ending in the video everyone…
    Stay positive!
Feel free to post any questions in the comments below about Tonga, life in a country without coronavirus or anything other questions you may have.
    Notes:
    - The place I stayed that got destroyed during the Cyclone is called Blue Banana. The owners Chris and Shane are incredible - would 100% recommend a stay if you come to Tonga. (They will have rebuilt by then, I promise!)
    - After a long time off TH-cam and a lot of excuses later, I’ve finally picked things back up again. Apologies for the lack of content, will be doing weekly North Korea / Tonga stuff once again (as long as the internet holds up).
    - Sorry for the low resolution. Originally was 1080p and 3GB but after trying for 2 solid days to upload it I gave up and put it super low res. Only took me 6 hours to upload it from then!
    - This one is a long one, so feel free to fast-forward.

    ------------------ A Country Without COVID-19, You Say? ------------------
On 19th March I got stranded on Tonga, a small country in the middle of the pacific ocean with a population of 100,000.
I took a flight from Fiji to Tonga and that afternoon Fiji reported its first case of coronavirus. From then on, the rest is history - recorded on video for your enjoyment!
These corona-free diaries include lockdowns, fluffy dogos, and cyclones.
    - List of countries without coronavirus (MAY 28th 2020) -
    North Korea 🇰🇵
    Turkmenistan 🇹🇲
    Solomon Islands 🇸🇧
    Vanuatu 🇻🇺
    Samoa 🇼🇸
    Kiribati 🇰🇮
    Federated States of Micronesia 🇫🇲
    Tonga 🇹🇴

The Supreme Leader and I are pleased that you are safe and have been able to enjoy the bounty of Costlow.
Until I saw your pictures and videos of the destruction and the flood waters, I admit thinking that your previous mention of the cyclone's proximity may have been a bit exaggerated. Scary stuff. Wow.

Truman show is one of my top films. One of those films that are nearly impossible to recreate. On top of the many messages the movie shoes it also focuses on overcoming your fears and by doing so, it just might open up a “whole new world” if you know what I mean lol. But it’s absurd you can’t even have a layover in the USA just because you’ve been to NK and yet my country still allows you to freely walk around with an assault rifle... regardless though Tonga looks beautiful and I’m happy to hear that everyone was alright in that cyclone. Remembered you posting that on your story it looked insane.

haha yes right! Bit of a fucked up world. Glad you have seen Truman show and could get the reference. Truly a brilliant film. The bit where he's like sick of everything and just wants to go as far away as possible.. and he says Fiji :D. Very lucky no one got hurt during the cyclone, very lucky indeed.

Zoe Discovers at the start of the film where a studio light falls and crashes, they cover it up by saying it fell of a plane... good representation of how so many people just believe the garbage thrown at them in the media too hahaha... with all the crap I’d want to just go to Fiji too haha

travelling at a time like that was probably not a good idea. i’m not trying to criticise but this pattern of travelling by foreign people is exactly how the pandemic spread further. you were lucky you didn’t come in contact with anyone sick while travelling or tonga would have not been virus free

    • @ZoeDiscovers
      @ZoeDiscovers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Leen yeah I try and touch on this a bit in the video since life in the Pacific was different. Travel certainly wasn’t a good idea but also nothing at that time was different, everyone was travelling and there were no confirmed cases in the pacific so I didn’t worry about spreading it - that was my main concern. as soon as I heard Fiji had it I felt terrible for coming to Tonga and went to the doctors to get checked.

When you go back to North Korea I think it would be nice to hear about how they managed to escape the pandemic because I’m sure they would have been very strict. Although there is skepticism about whether they really haven’t had a single case I think the fact that North Korea is very isolated did work in their advantage to escape the worst of the pandemic.
