Their current rivals are Stockport County, but they were formally rivals with Bury FC and Oldham Athletic. They were both unfortunately relegated mainly because of their owner's poor management. Rochdale are having increasingly rising chances of following their footsteps. As an attempted hostile takeover, which resulted in them getting a 6 point deduction, suspended for 2 years, was made. For a fan-owned club where every ticket sale, every shirt sale, and every decision is critical towards their finances, they can only dream of winning the big trophies. Feel free to add a twist in the rebuild if you decide to do a rebuild.
Could you rebuild teams from other leagues? Maybe teams that have had domestic success, but that haven't ever won the UCL or haven't won it for a long time. For example, Porto, Benfica, Sporting, Ajax, PSV, Marseille, Dortmund, or even teams from other leagues.
That 2nd ucl was an almost carbon copy of the 1985 cup winners cup run. Beating Bayern on two legs, behind Liverpool by a little bit in the league. Nice.
