    The 48V is even more significant than a factor of 4. Power loss (over)heating of the wires is proportional to current squared, so reduced by a factor of 16.

      @woolychewbakker5277 48V may "have been around in vehicles" but AFAIK only two(!) *passenger* cars do have 48V *components* ATM (Audi SQ7 and Bentley Betayga).

    Thanks for the report. CT is definitely a more advanced vehicle than was priced in 2019, so the additional cost isn't as far out of line as it seems at first glance. That said I had planned on getting the tri-motor, but will probably have to settle for a dual motor truck. Don't be too surprised if the number of trucks produces ramps up a little faster than expected.
    Update: Accepted an invitation from Tesla to put a deposit on a Foundation Series CT. Estimated delivery January to March. 😃

    I think the price is perfect. Why? The long wait list. As they catch up with demand, then lower prices. Hopefully, the actual production price is low enough to make a net operating profit within 12 months, and will fall from there.

      I think you’re sorely mistaken. Elon blamed the price on inflation and if he really blamed it on inflation, he would’ve only raised the prices 20% and that’s what inflation is from four years ago. He may be a brilliant guy, but he’s also a snake oil salesman, and he is banking on the hype and in my opinion, that is bad business. He really should honor the prices that he bragged about four years ago and just adjust them for inflation. If you noticed, Elon said nothing about the price at the reveal event yesterday, which was really a cheap shot since he revolved his entire presentation four years ago around the prices, again, bad business.

    Electric trucks in general undeniably come with a hefty price tag, making them seem like a luxury for the well-off. One major issue that continues to concern potential buyers is range anxiety, especially when dealing with substantial payloads or towing needs. It's crucial to recognize that a truck has traditionally been a reliable workhorse, offering more benefits than it consumes in terms of money and upkeep. In contrast, electric vehicles often feel more like the indulgent racing horses of the wealthy. While they have their place and advantages, they may never fully replace the trusty conventional gas trucks that have been the backbone of the industry for decades.

  • @jungleau1
    @jungleau1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think you completely missed the point of the range extender pack. This will be a quick-exchangable accessary at charging stations in the future, which means that you don't need to stay at the charging station for at least 30 minutes to recharge your truck. A robotic arm will grab your range extender pack, and then replace it with a fully-charged one in 10 seconds; and then you are ready to go.

    Cybertruck as a 680 mile range hybrid - If we have 340m range from 123kWh in the specs that implies 2.76m/kWh. Driving at 68mph it takes 5 hrs to cover 340m. If you could fit the REX 647cc generator pack from a BMW i3 into the cubby under the rear truck bed, that 25kw electrical output would provide 125kWh so an additional ~340 miles if the generator were to be run continually for the 5 hrs, on those occasions when 340 miles is not enough.

    here's some more details you may have missed According to a German TUV safety certification expert, the Tesla Cybertruck will require “strong modifications to the basic structure” before it can be sold in Europe 1. The Cybertruck is classified as a light-duty truck in the USA, which exempts it from many safety regulations, including for pedestrian safety. However, this is not the case in Europe, where the vehicle must comply with 50 to 60 different regulations 1. The front of the vehicle must not be stiff, and the bumper and bonnet must be able to absorb energy to protect pedestrians 1. The Cybertruck’s rolled stainless steel structure and panels are stiff and strong, which is great for resisting damage but less so for the occupants and unwitting pedestrians 1. Stefan Teller, an automotive expert at SGS-TUV Saar GmbH, outlined his concerns about the Cybertruck, stating that “nothing is deformed in the event of an impact. Instead, enormous forces act on the occupants. Airbags then no longer help”

      Because the CT is direct drive from the motors to the wheels. The semi has a gearbox between the motor and the drive axels. They didn't wanna add clutches to the drivetrain and increase complexity, so they just didn't do it.

Lower the suspension back down and leave the depleted one there to charge and grab a freshly charged one in no time. A rental “fleet” of extenders could be available wherever needed… and incentives provided to drop yours off where the most demand is. How they are going to balance the fresh new extender with worn out traction battery? I predict more EV fires because of that. That extender image in Tesla pages us a rendering, not a picture; the final design of bed lining is not looking like that. It is FIXED. You have to go to a garage to get it installed/removed. Also: if you charge half of the batteries separately, you will end up with imbalance. You will need a switch(es) to somewhat circumvent that issue. Those (tb¹/2-tb²/2-extender) switches are new points of failure and are having some electrical loss, too.

The rear can nearly hold a mountain bike , WHO HOO, marvellous ability! The power system is simply a big phone back up. No revolutionary at all. You need 70,000watts of roof solar to really charge it at home, crazy stuff and all an absolute drain on the environment, not a saving of the environment at ANY STAGE, Honda cars had 4 wheel steer long time ago, 20 years or more. They are all chemical bombs on wheels. Great vehicle to do your WOKE VIRTUE SIGNALLING to the parents as you pick up the KIDS from school. That is what this is all for.
