This was the very video I needed! Thank you so much! I don't know if it would be "too much work" but I would actually love a full-length video from like start to finish sort of thing on how you bring one of your characters to life?
So i really have to say that that i love your shorts-tutorial, they are lifesaver. And Thanks for getting into full video tutorials i think you have a amazing, unique workflow. Just one question, why don´t leave the halftone gradient at the are (no rasterize and changing it back to vector), and just change the opacaty/blend mode in Illustrator, with that you would have a non destructive workflow and could change the gradient at any point of your design? Keep rocking!!!
nice tutorial. just an idea: you can achieve the same without rasterizing it to pixels by converting the halftone dots via object > convert appearance and then delete white area with the magic wand or setting the layer to multiply
Hey mate, thank you for your comment! So just to run through your points here: unfortunately, as this is a photoshop effect, the magic wand wouldn't work in this instance as expand appearance will simple flatten the halftone meaning we would then need to image trace like I show in the video. Changing the blend mode on the other hand could be an option but does restrict you in terms of editing options. By image tracing the effect you gain the ability to customise the halftones however you wish, in particular the option to change the halftone colours. I hope this helps with understanding my thought process mate :)
That was well done! More stuff like this is always good. Out of curiosity, image trace has settings that adjust the output, could any of those be used to make the halftone smoother?
Hey mate, i've found the different settings in the image trace panel can help with the smoothness in some instances. If I am working on a large scale halftone then adjusting the settings can help, but with some of the smaller designs I haven't been able to get the same level of smoothness as changing the resolution does. But have a play around with the settings and see if it can work for you :)
Hey mate, so I have the outline on a separate layer, with the colour sitting below. Check out my other video where I break down how I design a character from start to finish 🙌
Way too many steps for the half tone effect, hopefully Adobe can make new updates in illustrator to help simplify the process. Great tutorial nevertheless
Seriously??????????????? do you really have to image trace the color halftone that’s generated as a PNG?????? Seriously???????? In a vector program. SERIOUSLY?????????????????????

Been enjoying all your shorts. A little jarring hearing your voice for the first time, like a baby who's dad shaved off his beard🤣
🤣 yeah I know the feeling! Hearing my own voice is very jarring as well 😅
@@ollies_doodles_ but seriously love the content & all the tips & tricks. Some of them I watch a few times.
great tutorial!
Can you make one about adding grain to your artwork?
I know you have a short video about that, but it's not clear to me.
Of course mate, I will add that to the list :)
More long format videos please!
More videos on the way! 🙌
Can I know your pc spec? The halftone effect applied quickly and smoothly with your system, but there's a delay with mine

Thank you mate!
I have a questione how you made the color separate the line? I learning how to use illustrator
Hey mate, so I have the outline on a separate layer, with the colour sitting below. Check out my other video where I break down how I design a character from start to finish 🙌
@@ollies_doodles_ ok thanks, good tutorial.
I got a 100 o my test thanks to you
Why is it that my halftones, view as blurred circles, and crispy and sharp like yours
image trace always greyed out
Im not sure what Im doing wrong but for whatever reason I cannot edit the gradient after making it a halftone.
Way too many steps for the half tone effect, hopefully Adobe can make new updates in illustrator to help simplify the process. Great tutorial nevertheless
Thank you mate! I hope so too!
