There's a very funny thing about this specific video version: the musicians are kind of joking with the TV business, because all the instruments are swapped! It happened just after they were told the performance would be a fake thing (which never was the band standard). And then they were like: Oh, let's mock around and swap the instruments... One guitarist is holding the bass, the bassist is holding the electric guitar, and the other guitarist holds the acoustic guitar - all pretending to play anything but the song.

@@alexandremaireno-ni4ec That sounds a bit off in my ear, because the Tupian languages lacked consonantal clusters. Until I see a proper etymology for that word I'll be a bit sceptic.
I'm from 2005, and yes, I know I didn't catch the golden age of Brazilian singers. But as a Brazilian, I feel proud to have had a fellow countryman like him. Bigs hugs from Brazil to you 🇧🇷❤️
That was so amazing. Thank you Beth for this beautiful analysis. In my opinion, Andre was gifted with a brilliant and singular voice. You can see he used to sing with passion, bringing the notes from the deep of his soul. I watched your analysis of 5 years ago, of the Shaman's song, fairy tale. That was incredible too. Rest in Peace Master Andre.
For a while I had Matos' cover as my ringtone. I miss him. Angra is a very special band and it is a shame it isn't super well known even in the Power Metal scene. I'm glad to see people like you still keeping the band's living legacy alive for future generations. Like you I got into Angra in high school (around 9th grade or so back in 2013-2014) so that's neat to share that connection.
I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to see Angra perform several times in Brazil, including at Monster of Rock. I cherish the photos and autographed CDs from over 20 years ago to this day. I remember meeting them in the stands at one of the Monster of Rock events they weren't playing. Everyone was very friendly. Andre Matos was a fantastic guy.
I had the great pleasure of meeting and working with André. I'm going to tell you a secret, an asset he had in his art of singing. He never showed his greater range, his higher tone, prematurely. He saved the climax for a few special moments in music. In this song, the intention to impress at the right moment is clear. Nowadays I see singers of this style "spending" their highest notes unnecessarily. André Matos' self-confidence was one of his main virtues. May our eternal maestro be enlightened wherever he is.
I have to admit you almost reduced me to tears. Not because of your heartwarming comments, but because Andre gets recognized abroad as he should've already been during his career. Firstly I came across Angra somewhere around 1998 with SPV's European double release of Angels Cry/Holy Land. And what a release that was! That brilliant mixture of heavy metal, progressiveness, and native folk elements, etc. And of course, Andre Matos' vocals. All of this was something completely new for me. And I enjoyed it then and I'm still enjoying it today! The above-mentioned release has been one of my all-time favorite music treasures to this day. I love your contribution to his memory. Thank you.
Beth it honestly made my heart warm to know that you guys enjoy Andre's work that much. He was one of my biggest musical inspirations growing up, and I think it's a common feeling among his fans that he really deserves more recognition.
Nice video Beth. The technical explanations, with sketches help us, amateurs singers. I’ve been a huge Angra fan since 1993, when this album has been released. By the way, I’m going to an Angra show TOMORROW!!!! With Orchestra! Unfortunately, without our Maestro André, but with Fabio Lione on the vocals! Cheer folks! Lets keep the dream alive. “Pretty lady, the horses are back”.
I remember being so much in love with Andre Matos, and I fall for him every time I see him, sadly I couldn't watch him singing when I had the oportunity. I feel he was part of my life and helped me with his music through trouble times, his smile is living in my heart for ever
Damn! What a nice video! I also love that you had Photo of him framed lol. There's this video of them playing SPEED live in Argentina where he hits the most amazing high note i've ver heard! The sound of the band is not the best in the concert, but he sounds so amazing there! It just sound so full of colour it's insane! Also: His highest note ver recorded live was in his last ever concert, 2 days before of his passing! He hits a C6 effortlessly! So i think he could sing a whole ass song in soprano register when he was Younger If he wanted to.
I can speak, understand and etc english very fluently. It took me 2 minutes in the video to realize you had put portuguese in the video haha I just loved the care with the Brazilian viewers you knew would come with Andre being shown in here. Thank you
André Matos was and always will be a source of pride for all of us Brazilians, even those who are not fans of heavy metal admire him. Congratulations on the video, your analysis was quite consistent.
I honestly think this version by Angra and Andre Matos is more impressive than the original by Kate Bush, Andre Matos' vocal capacity is surreal and this song proves it, I honestly think it's a more iconic version than the original, you can say that I I have this opinion because I'm Brazilian, okay, it's a good argument and maybe it has a grain of truth, but you can't say that my opinion is completely unfounded. Anyway, I have the impression that this version of Angra is little known, so when I see someone reacting to it, I feel extremely happy and proud. In fact, I've seen several comments from people who study singing and music, and a good number say that the notes he hits in this song are difficult even for tenors to reach, in addition to the fact that he in a certain way "emulates" Kate Bush's style. everything was more impressive, because besides everything, he was a man with a completely different tone of voice from Kate, and even so, it was incredible.
And Angra's version is also Metal. So... even better hahaha Não tenho dúvidas que a versão do Angra é superior. Andre é o maior! Mesmo não estando mais entre nós.
Man, I'm also Brazilian and I bought Angels Cry when it was released back in 1993, but there's no way this is more iconic than Kate's version! And I can't count how many times I cried out of emotion listening to Andre's interpretation. So this is coming from a place of love, not hate. Is it impressive as hell that a man can sing this song in such beautiful and perfect way? YES IT IS. We may count on one hand how many male singers could pull this off (and not many female singers can). But Kate's interpretation is so, so, so iconic. If you lived back then, you know!
oh my god, thanks for another video with André. other recommendations are Stand Away and Carry On (especially the live version of Carry On by Shaman). Another recommendation is Carry On again but sung by the vocalist who replaced André, Edu Falaschi.
Meu Deus! Estou emocionado!
Hi Beth, I'm from Argentina and knew (and love) Angra since their first record (Angel's cry, wich contains this amazing version). Andre is (I refuse to talk in past time about him) a superb talent, and your reaction bring tears to my eyes; it reminds me when I first hear this song. I have the honor to watch Angra (and meet Andre) live twice in Argentina and they are amazing! I tried to follow the band after Andre departure, but it's not the same; the magic is gone. Thanks for review this song, love the way you did it
Thanks from Brasil, dear Beth. I was here in ecstasy for the thousandth time with this performance, but this time, with your help, understanding and locating the nuances of such quality and vocal delivery much more. We miss André Matos so much.
1:44 Andre Matos entire degree is as follows, songwriting and regency, opera singing and erudit piano. Thanks again, Beth for once more reacting and analyzing, our eternal Maestro of Metal, Andre Matos. He is truly and deeply missed... Next month will be his birthday, there a tribute band called, Here I AM in Brazil that will make a concert in honor of Andre in São Paulo. (=
It's so nice to know that you've continued to listen to Andre! I've been a fan of his since I was a child. I was 6 when I heard my first Angra song. I still remember the day he died, it was my birthday. 8th of June. Since then I haven't really been able to watch him perform. I actually got a bit teary watching this reaction. It hurt, but seeing the joy in your face listening to him sing made me so happy that the only thing hurting now are my cheeks, because I couldn't help but smile like an idiot throughout the whole thing. Thank you so much for this video, Beth! He will forever be missed. RIP André.

Angra dos Reis (Bay of Kings), state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
@@alexandremaireno-ni4ec That sounds a bit off in my ear, because the Tupian languages lacked consonantal clusters. Until I see a proper etymology for that word I'll be a bit sceptic.
@@jggouvea Anga’rã = anga =spirit,ghost,god rã=red,with color of fire
She fell head over heels in love here. And she was absolutely right!
How I waited for this video, our André is a legend and will always be remembered

Thank you so much for such love and attention to the best metal singer ever from Brazil ♥
Andre, o Brasil nunca te mereceu! Vc era genial...
1:47 Thank you very much for putting the explanation in English and Portuguese, it was very delicate and sensitive on your part!
André por siempre amado, admirado y extrañado. Uno de los mejores de todos...
Angra just released an acoustic version featuring Amanda Somerville ! It's very good so i would love to see a reaction !!
Saudades!
I’m so glad I had the chance to watch him live. He is, was and always will be an amazing singer.
this video is just gold, as a brazilian who's studying singing, thank you so much Beth i love you
I can speak, understand and etc english very fluently.
So... even better hahaha
So do I
Realmente esse moço é incrível. Tenho os discos do Angra. Pena que de foi tão cedo.
Finally, someone reviews this awesome cover! It is a great song, and the only one I've ever heard that can measure up to the original, voice-wise.
thanks for this!!! we really need more Andre Matos!! people have to know him!!
oh my god, thanks for another video with André. other recommendations are Stand Away and Carry On (especially the live version of Carry On by Shaman). Another recommendation is Carry On again but sung by the vocalist who replaced André, Edu Falaschi.
Stand away, yes!!! Also Moonlight from Viper
Andre Matos for ever will be THE BEST!
Meu Deus! Estou emocionado!
Thanks ❤❤❤ André Matos was a greatest metal singer.
Thanks for review this song, love the way you did it
Hi Beth! What a coincidence, Angra also released a new videoclip today!
Thanks from Brasil, dear Beth. I was here in ecstasy for the thousandth time with this performance, but this time, with your help, understanding and locating the nuances of such quality and vocal delivery much more. We miss André Matos so much.
Andre was a monster on stage. Lucky me for having the opportunity to see him live.
it's so nice seeing you smiling while hearing him. It shows that you're enjoying his incredible talent singing an incredible song.
RIP André.
hey Beth, now check out "Moonlight- Viper" the final belting were something I was never able to reproduce, so high and strong.
