I think two, if you wanted the eyes/chest and the backpack. I don't think the light could channel through the backpack into the chest and head enough to see anything. Then you also have the display GN Drive as well, you could put a third one there XD
My first thought when seeing this on screen was: too bad it's just a model kit, because if it were an actual MS, Setsuna would have loved to get his hands on it - especially toward the end of "00" S1 when things started getting bad for Celestial Being. =)

although I love the exia this build really irritates me for it's i am an evil antagonist color scheme. Also the inner frame is not the best. I really want to see some do a review featuring the alternate standard exia parts. I am starting a custom painted dm exia

I FINALLY GOT this model lastnight and built it immediately and took me 6hours to do...ITS MY FIRST GUNPLA AND GOT 3more waiting to come in...Differnet gundams of course. haha. however while building this model(need I say THIS WAS MY First gunpla I have built and watched your videos on advice and building tips.) anywho...i manned to break the 2armor pieces that go to it...But I just need to gorilla glue it together and possibly see if it'll work that way hopefully. May show it in one of my videos thou here soon.
This is probably way too late but even experienced builders on a bad day will snap a piece on accident. I would invest in tamiya extra thin cement glue or something equivalent to it. Luckily I have a local gunpla shop that carries it but I'm sure you can order it online
ZakuAurelius the shoulder piece is floppy and move about cause you didn't push the arm joint all the way, to which many Gunpla youtuber miss about it and start cutting that joint piece. You should hear a click sound when you push it further in
Hey Zach, you don't have your arms in all the way if your shoulder is coming off. line up that shoulder and give the arm a good push. put the arm down to the side and push on the side of the arm at the shoulder and make it nice and snug. it'll move just fine and gives the shoulder pad no room to back off as well as the arm more strength for moving around and holding in place with some weapons on it.
It appears that the extra parts are for building a red and grey version of the standard master grade Exia. I have the MG Exia Ignition Mode kit, and that one extra large red part with the circular hole in the middle is for mounting the extra gn drive instead of the backpack configuration.

Im not sure or anyone before me mentioned this, but on my original Mg exia the arms popped in a lot more snug to get rid of your shoulder problem, i too struggled to get them in all the way on my first few attempts but managed it eventually. id assume it works the same for this as no molding has been changed on the dark matter. hope this might help you. Hi I just started building my Exia Dark Matter. I do not have the shoulderpad problem you show in your video. I can tell you that when i connected the arms, there was a distinct click. And they are on there tight
When will this have an rg? It was possible for RG Build Strike thanks to the RG Strike Gundam so why not have Exia's as well (pls don't be a p-bandai if Dark Matter is released coz there's so many RG Exia P-Bandais already)
I somehow was able to watch this review while also playing expectations ost from 00 at the same time........ Either my phones busted or am just really lucky
The LED doesn't work very well for the head. It's not very bright and rests awkwardly in the chest cavity so I just took the sticker out of the chest so it shines through there. It's much brighter that way.
the shoulder armor piece and two big swords are kind of disappointing, shoulder armor tends to come apart wherever i swing its arms to make a more dynamic pose and the two swords seems to have a problem attaching to its waist, the circle connector tends to collapse inwards when applying pressure and then the front and rear waist armor gets in the way.
Shoulder pads are not that bad. The arms can be pushed in deeper into the torso pegs and everything gets nicely secured with minimun shaking. Great review as always, keep them coming.
After watching your review I still don't know if I want it or not. 5000 yen seems a bit expensive than the regular Exia which cost about 3800 yen. But I'm still waiting for the MG Exia Amazing, hopefully not an online exclusive :D
Right now I don't think it will be, but I could definitely be wrong! Anyway, this ones not going to disappear so plenty of time to think on it! The 5,000¥ price tag is a little high I think.

Is there an extra part from the original exia included in the kit to replace the less articulated neck? I think I'd prefer articulation over a fancy light-up feature
I believe the original Exia neck was the same, but I could definitely be wrong on that. I haven't had time to look through all the extra parts to see what's all there or not yet.

Haha, just don't let your wallet blame me! I think if I had to choose one I'd go for the Double X, but it's close, I like the designs about equally. The DX is a design I actually don't like all that much, but it's probably what I'd go for first.
Im watching all of these reviews to get a bit more familliar with MS's I dont know(basically anything post wing :p) and wtf a fire and ice sword xD? Im having a hard time accepting normal swords on gundams in general but these rpg ass things take the cake hahaha.
What are some of your favorite MS's? Most hg, mg and rg are fine as first build honestly, just try to avoid kits that are notorious for weak parts. Just look up which MS's you like, check if theres any out of box reviews of em and thats how easy it is :p

+Scott N actually a high grade is a very good start but, my first kit was the rg exia because 00 was the first gundam show i have ever watched. so when i started to build it I did no know what I needed and it looked like crap so i just added parts to and it looks like the Aile strike gundam. that is my personal story about gunpla. but i am improving gradually.
+Jm Gerbese It can be hard to get the kit to hold the swords, and the ankles aren't great. If you get an Action Base for it, that will help a lot. All-in-all it's not a bad kit, perfectly fine for any level, if you like it then go for it! That being said, there are better options.

haha, you should wait! I think Bandai will do an MG Exia Amazing! Not sure if it will be exclusive or not though. The design is slightly different in a few parts as well, so a repaint wouldn't make it 100% anime accurate. But that's only if you care about stuff like that ;)

I was thinking of getting an Exia gunpla as my very first gunpla, would it be a good starting point of getting into gunpla models? I've made other kind of models before: tanks and jets. So I guess it won't be too big of a change from the two types of plastic models? But I'd like to get opinions.

ZakuAurelius i was at a book store and bought this and that kit 2 days ago.... now ive done some research and im loving both these kits and the HG wing gundam fenice.... i think from now on though ill go with HG's and maybe a RG for a while. waiting for my RG RX78-2
ZakuAurelius are RG's really hard my only modeling experience is with Games Workshops Warhammer figures (which helped alot with the MG sengoku)? also the price of Gunpla with comparison to Games workshop products makes me so happy... i have found a new addiction.
Grimmlocked Hey! The advice I usually give to people is this: if you can build an HG, then you can build any other grade as well (RG, MG, PG). It's all the same steps, just more of them! With an RG you're going to deal with much smaller parts, but as long as you're comfortable with that you'll be fine! I have huge hands and I love RG kits, so don't worry about it too much! Just go for whatever kit looks awesome to you and enjoy!
The bird look is probably intentional. A lot of Meijin Kawaguchi/Tatsuya Yuuki's mobile suits have bird themes in their design.

For most kits it's not normal to have THAT many leftover parts. But you will very often have at least a few extras! Not to worry! ^^

there are a few details that don't make it look anime accurate. one thing for me is the head looks slightly too big

Based on a few pictures on Dalong, I'm almost certain you can build the full Exia Repair II with the spare parts...which is a P-Bandai item...

the extra parts can be made to re-create the original mg exia or the r2 version of the mg exia but in dark matter colors.

Hey guys are the side parts that hold the swords on the leg pegs loose for you guys as well? They slide out when I move the gundam sideways.
Can you attach those two large swords and leftover larger and smaller sword to the hips at the same time using spare parts that come with the kit?

I snapped the dark matters neck but it had extra pieces that I could use. The down side of the extra pieces is that I can't use the back pack.

Honestly just go for whatever kit you think looks cool! Almost every kit has some small issues, but the best thing to do is just build some!

Did you realise that the two main sword’s blades are from gn sword two blade from repair 2 and gn sword from original Exia
