  • What else can be said about diving Cenote Dreamgate, that has not already been captured so astutely by so many other divers that have visited its mystical chambers. Yes, Cenote Dreamgate was one of the filming locations for the "Caves" episode of BBC's Planet Earth. Yes, it is one of the most ornately decorated cavern dives you can do in the Yucatan peninsula. And yes, Cenote Dreamgate is by far one of the most thrilling adventure dives you can undertake when diving the dozens of famous cenotes near the Dos Ojos cave system.
It is a surreal feeling, being suspended in pristine clear water, hovering just a few feet away from a limestone formation that resembles molten candle wax more than raw earth. Making your way through the endless passageways and chambers hidden within Cenote Dreamgate is an awe inspiring experience that is not for the faint of heart - it is the pure definition of an "overhead" environment, and to even touch one of the stalagmites or stalactites with a fin would be an egregious offense against mother nature. Diving Cenote Dreamgate requires precision buoyancy and a deep desire to observe the true essence of what makes cenote diving in Tulum so incredibly distinctive.
Victor, Peter, and I visited Cenote Dreamgate as part of our three day expedition to explore a myriad of cenotes that are considered "off the beaten path". While Cenote Dreamgate has certainly garnered tremendous attention because of its relatively "open" access to the diving community, the trek to reach this destination requires a modest effort. Driving through the jungle on a bumpy, poorly cleared road, affords you the feeling of being far off on an expedition deep in the Mayan jungle. It is a feeling as close to the essence of exploration as it gets.
A place as ancient as this deserves to be protected, and as much as visiting divers provide strong economic support for the landowners - they have unfortunately caused significant physical damage to this precious resource. As you watch this video, you may notice a variety of fallen stalactites and stalagmites - those are the direct result of careless individuals diving beyond their capabilities, and failing to observe meticulous buoyancy.
In this episode, I hope you will enjoy the journey into Cenote Dreamgate as much as we enjoyed filming it. If you'd like to visit Cenote Dreamgate with Victor, be sure to check out kooxdiving.com

Hey, thanks SO MUCH for sharing this! I dived Dreamgate a couple of months ago and completely fell in love with it... such an incredible experience! I tried to take plenty of photos but my videos didn't come out half as good as yours, so it's really wonderful to be able to see it again in such super high definition! And the journey through the jungle to reach it, the steps down... I love that you really captured the whole experience! I appreciate the effort that went into this, thanks again!

Thank you! I'm thrilled you enjoyed this video. Truth be told - i've completed about 20 dives in DreamGate since 2017, and this was the first time I was able to finally capture the essence of it. Lighting is crucial, but you also have to be mindful of the overhead environment when filming and managing buoyancy at the same time. I did my best to illuminate a variety of the formations which I consider most captivating. I'm grateful you took the time to watch this video - it was a lot of work to create it!

That was absolutely breathtaking! We did a cenote a few years ago in Mexico, and it was beautiful, but not compared to this.
    Thanks for sharing!!!
