  • This video is basically me thinking out loud and writing a rough race plan out on paper. I explain as I go in no particular order :D If you've followed the channel for the outdoor adventures, trail runs, and scenic views, this one may be on the boring side.
    I've put it together for those who are starting from the beginning and looking for a way to start making their own training plan. There are millions of ways to do so, this way works for me.
    The only thing I can think of at this point in time that I forgot to add: I ramp up my monthly volume by week so week one to week three the intensity, duration or elevation will increase to a peak at week 3, followed by a more relaxed week 4.
    Have a great week!

    Great video! I’m training for my first 100k, and will rewatch this to craft my own plan. Subscriber # 613.

    This is actually really helpful. The part about the importance of downhill training was a bit of an "aha" moment for me... I'm prepping for a 45k trail race with 1740m of elevation, so going to rewatch this video and make some proper notes as I get what you're saying. I have a 20-week training block (starting in a couple of weeks) and my training plan/philosophy is relatively similar to what you are doing, but I have a couple of extra ideas now.
    p.s. not boring for me. I could watch training plan videos 24/7. Geek at heart

      Hey Will, cheers for the comment 👍 glad you managed to sit through the video haha felt like I was talking for ages but all relevant stuff that seems to work for me. Will continue to add to it as the year progresses. Glad to help. Yea a while back I was reading about downhill training and I too was like “oh yea ok, that makes sense.” Think getting your muscles used to the downhills helps a lot as well as checking in with what pace you can handle. 45km 1740, awesome 👌 what part of the world are you from? Best of luck training for that! Comment now and then and let me know how the training is going 👍👍👍

      @@seangreyvenstein6819 I'm from the UK. I'll let you know the race soon as it's not really public knowledge at the moment haha. I've been analyzing the course profile since this video, and it just re-affirms the whole downhill training idea so much.

      Will Claxton awesome. I’m over there every couple of years, doing a race there on my next visit definitely! Enjoy the training!

    This is really helpful, thanks. I'm doing my first ultra next year, 34 miles. The downhill running has messed my knee up before so I'm really trying to improve that.

      Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. Best thing to do is take it slow and slowly increase your downhill sessions. That’s a great distance my first was the 65 (similar). Enjoy the training!

    Great informative video, how to you factor in rest, do you have an easy week every 3 weeks or so, or just rest when you need to?

    • @seangreyvenstein6819
      @seangreyvenstein6819  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much, depending on the plan I usually have 3 build weeks and a rest week. If I start feeling burnt out or can’t get to sleep (any overtraining signs really) I then take a good week off with a bit of lower intensity training. Appreciate the comment, thanks Steve!
