Could I just add that when looking at the unique series, would it be something you’d think about in addition to the stats of the item; to talk about the lore of the item and perhaps it’s aesthetic too? Uniques tend to have interesting themes and lore reflected in their attributes
I can see this being very effective with an barb merc as a crowd control mechanism. This is why i like what the developers are planning for the mercenaries in the new patch. Act 2 merc was clearly OP with its auras. When 1.11 came out, these new runewords were introduced to make the other mercenaries a bit more useful (with auras) It would be a disaster if they put all this work into balancing the other mercs, only to find out that we're still using act 2. Reading the other comments below, runewords tend to be the most relevant way of counteracting attribute imbalances with better equipment.
I used this on my Frenzy Barb for a long time for the Cannot be Frozen effect till I found a Ravenfrost. It has good enough damage and you proc like crazy with frenzy.

Amazing weapon for holy freeze paladin! I had an almost perfect roll of it stashed and just made a paladin around it. Loving it. He has a death ettin axe (brutal weapon) on swap and in many cases the damage is similar. Crazy. Very underrated sword, a hidden gem.
I saw the phrase "Runewords - Voice of Reason" and I thought this was going to be a statement on how dramatically runewords run this game and why they should be toned back
Ha! your not entirely wrong, I do feel like there was this cascading sillyness that went on. Rare items were the best items in the game until uniques of LoD, then Uniques were the best items in the game until the Crazy Runewords of later patches. Some of the runewords are certainly what I would consider game breakers. Grief being able to bypass the pvp penalty is a big one.
@@GGMentor I played this game a bit back when it first came out, and I've hit it a lot harder since Resurrected released, and this is something I picked up on as well. I'm exploring builds across many different characters, and far too often, the best builds boil down to getting the same items - HOTO mainhand, Call to Arms/Spirit in the secondary slot, and Enigma, and Insight for your merc. Then there the same uniques across multiple builds - Shako, Mara's, and SOJ's, and Andariel's Visage for your merc. There's not a lot of diversity here.
So I learned something from you today, thanks! I didn't know % Damage to Demons / Undead on a weapon is calculated later. Amazon Basin: "% Damage to Demons is added to +% Damage when the target is a demon, and applied after weapon damage has been calculated, even when it is on the weapon itself."

Btw that +100-220 cold damage gets applied every hit, so don't add it to the FO. FO gets applied roughly every 5th hit. A nice way to think about procing damage is to multiply the damage by the percentage chance to proc to get the average.

It is still my favorite game, #1 still to this day. Also yeah I could run around in Hell mode with runewords like that on my old Frenzy barbarian while I was waiting FOREVER to find better gear. The most full geared characters I ever had at once was only 3. A Hammerdin, a Lightning Sorc, and a Bowzon. And by fully geared I mean with godly gear and able to defeat Hell mode Baal and Diablo. The most full geared characters I ever had on Ladder was only 1, sadly. I was never able to afford good gear I always had to start from the bottom
I got my first Ko yesterday (funny how rng works, have ohms and vexes) and I am itching to try this on a Vengance pally. The conviction could really come in handy. Cold immunes are rarely broken but still, it should murder all those not cold immunes. Only the ED is wasted. EDIT: No, on-weapon ED helps with vengance, right?
On weapon ED +min and +max help vengeance. Unfortunately this will have rather low vengeance damage. But your conviction will still need up the cold damage. You would probably be better off using zeal + conviction with this weapon.
@@GGMentor True, the fast zeal can definity help proc the juicy spells more often. However, you might struggle in hell with cold immunes, as conviction doesn't synergize with Zeal for physical damage and cold is often difficult to break. And those monsters are plenty. For min-maxing zeal with this weapon and fanatisicm with infinity merc is probably better. But on an Avenger the runeword will give him some badly needed AOE damage. The - cold res synergizes with Vengance as well.
@@FenixBG I think you may have misunderstood I wasn't saying Don't use vengeance I was saying with this weapon as a swap to use zeal. In other words have another weapon for vengeance you need high damage like botd. But for this weapon with conviction use zeal to increase the speed of attacks which in turn would increase the frequency of procs. Zeal is on the way to vengeance and you should have at least level five zeal without putting any more than one point into it.
dual wield voice of reason with a rift, nightwings helm, infinity merc, maybe ormus robes armor, merc a5 using hustle and plague for -rez proc. caster barb build maybe?
Yeah Im surprised VoR Bladsin isnt more popular. I was almost unbeatable by the game at level 80. Everyone talks about eth fleshripper.. thats what I was using before I upgraded to this!!
I love how he has a lv 99 assassin that still has it's starting gear lol. You won't be seeing that on console. I don't think their are any mods for console and likely none in the future.
Hey GGM, would you think this would still be efficient to put this in a 4 socket dimensional blade? I am playing single player right now and this is the best thing I have found and have all my hero's in NM atm. Dimensional blade durability is very low it'll break very fast. The reason why people put it in a phase blade is so it doesn't break. With the Holy freeze build you really just want something that's fast. But let's be honest it's not a very expensive recipe you could always make one now and then remake it later when you get a phase blade
So, cold sunder. My thoughts a principle paladin running max conviction and voice of reason. Ignore physical damage completely and just focus magic/cold conviction plus -24 from wep plus sunder plus 2x plague merc?
could be an interesting build, the only real issue you will run into ignoring all physical damage means no or very little life leech which could be an issue with survivability.
Phase blade is faster than Dimensional Blade or Crystal Sword... Kick-sins most certainly won't be sacrificing that base weapon IAS to save a few points in dex.
I feel like there is some debate on this because voice of reason has some nice mods like the - cold res and cannot be frozen. But I think the majority lean towards rift.
Not all sorceress builds need to be caster builds. There are quite a few builds that involve a melee or ranged sorceress that work quite well including a bear sorceress.

With no increased attack speed it would be very slow. If you made it in the fastest base possible maybe buy it would still be very slow on a shapeshifter druid.

Biggest issue with Voice of Reason is it has no physical damage, you can dual wield it but then your ability to leech life is practically zero which does cause issues for a melee build.

I have no high runes so I can't affor other high lvl runewords or endgame items to bring down immunities.
I like those videos but they would be so much better if you had a character prepared to showcase the item. In this case you didn't have any attack rating. Just throwing the item on a random character doesn't give it justice.

This is why you generally use both infinity and -enemy resistance. Furthermore sorceresses already have the most massive -enemy cold resistance in the form of cold mastery, they don't need the -cold res on voice of reason. Cold mastery also does not break immunities
There was a time Amazon's were the most broken class in the game. They got nerfed into oblivion unfortunately. I feel like there has always been a little bias against the class even before the changes.

I used this on my Smiter while I was waiting to make Grief. It handles Ubers just fine.

I used it for a budget occulus for a while on my sorc it makes cold mastery the same as an occulus if you're maxed out

No only melee.
Edit. I shouldn't say melee but rather if you're attacking with your weapon, bows also work.

I feel like there has always been a little bias against the class even before the changes.

tbf its enigma that has done the most damage but if they want to make D4 more balanced they need to balance casters/ranged a lot better
making caster gear have energy requirements would go a long way towards this alone
@@Snuckster2 id be cool with this. Max vita kinda bothers me in d2 and I was about to roll an ES sorc to stack mana and play differently
There some really good bow runewords but they are exceptionally expensive. Like it was by design.
