So sorry about your brother Sheila. I lost my baby brother 03/04/2023 and another in 05/03/1991 when he was 23😢. Simple Man is one of the best songs every written❤
I was a 70's kid and life was good..best days of my life..trucking all over the country listening to bands..but 80's, 90's and early 21st century was cool as well..after 911..life changed and the road gets hard so enjoy your lives when your young kids :)
Simple Man" epitomized Ronnie Van Zant, who enjoyed friends, family, and a good time far more than anything money could buy. He held true to these values even after he found fame. Van Zant died in the 1977 plane crash that also claimed the lives of Skynyrd guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines (brother and sister). When the band reunited and toured in 1987, they dedicated this song to him. Even though the lyrics state, "Sit beside me, my only son," Ronnie was not the only son. He had two younger brothers along with one older sister and one younger sister. Those younger brothers are Donnie, who formed and fronted .38 Special; and Johnny, who took over as Skynyrd’s frontman after Ronnie's death.
Graduated from HS in 71'. Went to Soooo many concerts in the day. I married a Rocker guy in 82' He turned me on tooooo so many groups . We went to many concerts. I so miss those days. 😢😢. This song is on my " ring tone".
I want to show it to my future child and say, "Son, your father lived at the time the music came from the soul and the artists had talent pty make songs like this" One of the best songs I heard in my life!
Pete my precious son this is for you i love and miss you so much always in my ♥️ and soul love never dies and yo will never be forgotten this i know son you are a bright star in the sky love you so much miss our talks and our time together mother loves you deeply 🐞🐞🍀🍀🍀
Your memory is bad. If you were born in 54, you weren't in high school when this came out.. You'd have been 19 when this came out in 1973. Unless you failed 3 or 4 grades thru school.
COMPLIMENT on it's way! The "stop-start" rythmn of the bass guitar, is like that of FREE's ANDY FRASER! One of my favourite musicians, and who I had the priviledge of meeting, in the bar, after his final gig in England.
Its amazing to watch this after seeing them for so many years now. They are actually alot more powerful and polished today then they were back then. Of course I do understand that was a whole new deal for them at the time, playing as a tribute to the originals who they knew and / or were related to.
I guess I just prefer his older deeper raspier voice verses his young tenner sounding voice. I think his voice today sounds more natural where as I think his younger singing voice seemed forced. To each there own.
DaleCaliente Spelling police on the internet, really? I dont pretend to be the best at English or always use proper grammar. However, I'm usually pretty good with my spelling and using the correct words, at times going way out of my way to search for the right spelling or word to use.As I remember, I was tired at the time and I didnt even think about it with the word tenor or tenner. Same thing with there vs their. I know when to use the correct version but it slipped my mind. It wasnt the first time that I've made grammatical errors and it probably wont be the last.
As we roll closer to another anniversary of that dark day in October, 1977, Let us recall those not in this video: Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines. In this video but gone: Leon Wilkeson, Billy Powell. Original Members in this video, but no longer in the band: Artimus Pyle, Ed King. Non-Original Band Members in this video: Randall Hall (from the Rossington-Collins Band) and of course Johnnie Van Zant, Ronnie and Donnie's (.38 Special) kid brother. FYI
I saw the tribute tour in Jacksonville Florida. I've never seen anything like it. The whole crowd cried through the entire concert. It was an honor to have been there.
I love this song b/c it is songwriting at it's best, homemade at best. The reality of today needs to add a lot of humble to folks. I believe we are all being hoodwinked.
It was so tragic when the plane crashed and fans of this great rock group were robbed of the talented band members that perished as well the crew of the plane.
Got this album for Christmas from my brother... he passed away 12/21/2023 .... RIP Big brother. Thank you
