I heard this song back in the day & I can't tell you how much I LOVE this version!! It was great to see Hovie & Jake there sing along but you could tell some of the older folks (George Younce & Les Beasley) were LOVING IT!! Who am I kidding?? I loved it too!! 🤣
I bought a Dove Brothers CD a few years ago just because of the vibrant rhythm, and I'm not even religious. I AM a musician, though. I currently play trombone in the Lake Charles Community Band(we're here on TH-cam!). Man, that kind of music can sure move you!
I saw Ken Turner at the start, did he ever sing in any of these live tapings? But these guys knocked this song out of the park, good to see they acknowledged Hovie and Jake.
"Over here on the piano is a 'famous man', I didn't know how famous he was until he told me. His name is Richard Simmons...Now when I first heard that I didn't quite know what to do, but I found out right quick it's not that Richard Simmons, let me tell ya that boy can play that piano forevermore." ~McCray Dove~
That was really cool and classy what they did, involving Hovie and Jake in the last part of the song. Groups like this are what makes Southern Gospel great is a group that will acknowledge and admire those who paved the way before them. This would have a been a great group had they been able to stick together. Music is just like sports, great teams always seem to be broken up.
@@MrPocketfullOfSteel Yes. They STILL got it. And that bass singers voice has matured with age. He really blows the roof off now when he leads on several songs. THEY ARE BACK. AND BETTER THAN EVER.
Thanks for the gaither videos , I love them and they lift my spirits. I also like the den Martin celebrity roasts. I remember them from years ago and it's so funny. Whenever I feel down I just watch a video and it's forgotten. Thanks so much.
The father's are so uplifting and anyone else that sings. It's a joy to watch them. I also like the comedy routine. They said laughter through tears is the best. Thank you Bill Gaither for these videos. It's so uplifting .
I wonder who George Younce was winking at?? Man they burnt the building down with that song!!! I ALWAYS was a fan of the Inspirations. But when it comes to hi gear singing the Dove brothers knock it outta the park. The best ever.
This always makes me smile!(: Eric you truly are a good man! I've grown up with your sons and looked at you as a dad. Love you buddy!(: -Brent Mclean (no show Jones) lol
I wrote Shoutin Ground when I first met Kenneth and Vicki Newton who were talking about their calling for Taiwan 🇹🇼. I got goosebumps as Vicki told how God confirmed that they were called to go to Taiwan as a family. Their son Kenny was born on 8/8/88 which for the Chinese is the most special birthday of the century! (I had just been diagnosed with lymphoma for the second time.)

Everything you say about Eric may be true. I have no idea because I don't know him or the situations of which you talk. I do know that you may be opening yourself up to some malicious slander, defamation of character and libel charges. This is the wrong place to air your personal grievances. It is also not the biblical way to handle such matters. WARNING: If you can't document don't comment. If you comment you well better document. Eric: Do you need an attorney?
+tickle fan It's McCray Dove singing lead, his brother Eric Dove singing baritone, Burman Porter singing bass, I think the tenor is John Rulapaugh. McCray Dove is only remaining member now after numerous lineup changes. At one time Eric Dove's son Devin played drums when they were one of few groups still backed by a live band. They were once a great quartet with a live band in the period 2010-2013 with Jonathan Price singing tenor but McCray Dove's onstage dramatics along with rumors about Eric seemed to cause problems for the group. Burman and Jonathan Price left apparently not under the best circumstances and then Eric left. The group went through a period as a trio with McCray Dove. Now billed as "The New Dove Brothers" as a quartet but only McCray remains and the act seems to have cleaned up singing to backing tracks. They didn't make the Top Ten of Singing News Fan Awards Nominations in 2014. This is a great performance though. Very exciting to listen to and watch.
hey this is his son brandon dove look me up on facebook if u want but you are slandering my dads name when u dont even know him and his first wife is my mom and he didnt do anything to her so get your story straight before you slander someones name god bless you
***THIS SONG DOESN'T MAKE SENSE*** This is actually a terribly written song, and I’m surprised someone as talented as McCray Dove would sing something filled with so many unfinished points, inaccuracies, and contradictions. Let's start with the lyric 'if you set me free, I'll be happy to see what the end might be" is a pretty dumb deal and an insult to God's intelligence. Why would anyone, let alone God, want to make a bargain like that? It’s like asking a prison guard: to “let me out, and I’ll tell you what freedom feels like.” Then there’s the "sweet voice" line-if I heard a voice traveling from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet, it would have to pass through the shit in my pants first. Imagine how horrifying it would be to have a voice travel through your body like that. If that happened, I’d probably end up in a special needs institution. People from the most boring parts of the USA, who have never traveled anywhere, always glorify the Jordan River as if it’s some kind of crystal paradise. These would be the same people who think Jesus looks like Kenny Loggins. The water in the Jordan River is so dirty that outhouse toilet water is drinkable by comparison. If every Bible character deposited explosive rounds of diarrhea directly from their asses and into the Jordan, it would be cleaner afterward. It’s a giant wet mess of silt, sediment, agricultural runoff, untreated sewage, and industrial waste. Maybe crossing it is what Catholics mean by purgatory. And the Jordan is not 'chilly'; it has a year-round average of 75°F and can get up to almost 100°F in the summer. The song then says that in just a few days, or a few risings and settings of the sun, their "mind will be done and victories won." What the hell does that even mean? Aren’t victories called "victories" because they’ve already been won? You never hear anyone say, “The Los Angeles Lakers won 68 of their 75 victories this year.” That would be absurd. Then the song turns into a coroner’s report, describing what a dead body looks and feels like, right down to cold bodies and tongues sticking to the roofs of mouths. The song ends with probably the stupidest line yet: the singer hopes the river is 'wide' because they promised their mom they’d see her on the other side. Wouldn’t you want a narrower crossing in that case? Or is the singer saying, “Jesus tap-dancing Christ, I hope my mother stays the hell away when I get to heaven, so it better be wide enough to avoid her?”The message as a whole doesn’t add up or make sense. "I want to cross over and see my Lord." Well, you'd better HOPE the river "gets away," because I can’t fathom how the true creator of everything would be on the other side of that nightmare tide of a toilet river.
Only the Dove Bros could pull off what I call the Statesmen Slide! 😁 Very well done guys!
To sing that song with the men who made it famous must have been the thrill of a lifetime.

What a tribute to Jake Hess and Hovie Lister. They are the authors of the song and performed thousands of times years ago.
Hovie and Jake doing the slide back like they did in the '50's put a huge smile on my face.
What a great, fun song! I'm glad how the Dove Brothers showed respect to Hovie and Jake in including them on the refrain!
Hovie and Jake sang the song way before the Dove Brothers made it famous with Statesmen quartet.
