    Wow. Inexpensive guitar plus inexpensive multi-effects, but sounds like a million bucks! This is really the golden era for guitarists on a very tight budget.

    • @gameroftheyear1000
      @gameroftheyear1000 ปีที่แล้ว

      Truly is a time to be alive as a guitar player. Most budget brands have really stepped up in terms of quality and that’s mainly due to modern innovation on having the pieces of wood constructed. Not only can they do it faster now, but more efficiently and accurately. Sure QC may let a lemon squeak by every now and again and a bad guitar will get out of the factory, but I feel like that’s a small minority today. Then you have brands like Harley Benton and Squier which give you a Floyd special or Floyd 1000 for a $400 guitar! Even back when I started playing with crappier guitars with Floyd rose specials, which are also not the greatest quality bridges, those guitars were still at least $600 to buy used due to the Floyd being on it. So we really have come far in terms of good gear at reasonable prices.

      Dude yea I’m so jealous. My first amp was a brand new Behringer GM110 which was pretty freaking fancy back then, I did well - it was a Tech 21 rip off - but it still sounded like ass with the DI out for worship and recording, and the speaker sounded like hissy garbage. Still, it was my amp for 2 years. My first real amp was a Crate Excalibur. Bahaha

    Young players have no idea how lucky they are to have access to the inexpensive gear & instruction on channels like yours.

    • @gameroftheyear1000
      @gameroftheyear1000 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh I know lucky I am haha my old man has been playing since 1982 and he’s also left handed so he was at an even bigger disadvantage when he had his choice of guitars and gear due to there not being very many pieces of gear in the wild. So having channels like guitar max, I’ll even say I’m happy that I have access to it and try not to take it for granted. Also with tab channels as well, I’ve been able to learn songs within minutes, my old man said to learn just one song in his day, it was a record player or recording songs off the radio on his boombox with a tape player and doing it all by ear. Yet another thing I try not to take for granted. Having both of these avenues available has helped me to learn guitar at a frightening pace.

      Im 17 and just starting out. I’m really grateful. I have a Zoom G1on multi fx pedal, it’s pretty good, I can recreate some tones and have access to pretty much any pedal or tone configuration I could want. I can also play with headphones so I don’t disturb my neighbors. It’s great! And I’m glad I get to take advantage of that

    Max, I'm a 68 year old guitar player and have played for 50 years. I have really enjoyed your channel over the past several years because of your honesty and candor. I don't know if you know about the Washburn Wi64 but I think a demo of this guitar would be interesting . The guitar doesn't have standard tone controls. The "tone" knobs, when all the way up have the pickup in double coil mode but as you turn down the control, the pickup starts blending one of the coils out of the circuit until it's single coil. Here's the kicker, no hum, no buzz. The sound is truly unique IMO.😊 And yes Rock On!

  • @kevinmyles6369
    @kevinmyles6369 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Got it! Sonicake did their best making them really cheap for people without any big budget. Now after 3 months working with the unit I noticed couple unfortunate issues that makes it not perfect obv but still good enough for some applications. First of all there is a certain latency when switching channels, FX.
    Other point is when cranking the volume of any overdrive/distortion/effect value the sound starts clipping so that means they used cheaper components in China that cannot deal with high increasing levels so bare that in mind when using the unit. For the rest it's still fun and useful. Mainly at home for recording and such..

    • @Roanadi080
      @Roanadi080 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does the sound go off whenever you switch from one preset to another? Like there's a latency between preset when you change it?

    • @kevinmyles6369
      @kevinmyles6369 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Roanadi080 sometimes yes, and gotta watch with the volume levels when you dial in amps and cabs cuz starts clipping when too loud so be modest with those settings. It's not a Kemper, Helix or Fractal but does the job very well if keep in mind those levels... You can always crank main volume knob if need more to come through FOH or poweamp

    Looks like a winner! I've got the Sonicake Boom Ave for bass and have used it live about 30x a year for the past few years - amazingly quiet running directly to the house system with the built in DI. Great and simple controls to get more than all the sounds I need. Fits right in my case so I never forget it. Works amazing with my passive 5 string bass or my passive/active 6 string bass.

  • @Russell_Optics

    Definitely a lot of features for $130 with power supply. I actually thought the acoustic setting sounded pretty good coming from a super-strat. Using it as a headphone amp with effects/looper is one of the biggest selling points IMHO for a lot of people.

    • @gameroftheyear1000

      @@keithsmith9889 in my experience, there will never be a masterful AC simulator. They all have enough digital processing sound behind them to be noticeably “fake” sounding and it’s honestly just way too distracting to listen to for me, so I just avoid AC Sims. But that’s me.

    It's worth it for the drum machine/looper to practice improvising. That's a big selling point which was really missed in the demo, IMO.

    • @gameroftheyear1000
      @gameroftheyear1000 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eh the 90 second loop isn’t all that great and the drum machine I used maybe on a few occasions. I have it all rigged into my pc though, so loading a backing track is essentially better and faster personally. But I agree, it’s a good component, especially towards beginners, to learn how to play in time and obviously just to have fun and goof around. The looper is also great for that!

  • @matthesson5618
    @matthesson5618 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Yeah great little pedal!!!! I feel the hardest part is taking the time to read the manual and actually taking the time to learn the ins and outs but once you do you're set!!!

    • @gameroftheyear1000
      @gameroftheyear1000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This right here. Mine didn’t even come with a manual 😂 lucky I found the PDF manual online and went from that. But yes, once you finally get used to navigating the menus and figuring out how to make adjustments to fine tune everything, it opens it up wide and it’s fun to get lost in trying new things for hours. I personally just took the stock presets and made my own alterations to them and renamed them for different genres, it’s been a huge part to help switch tones quick depending on what I’m playing and with my pitch shifter, I can change tuning and playing style tone on the fly which is a huge bonus for me.

    I love the sound of the Funky OD setting. To me, the hardest sound to get is the slightly overdriven sound. Clean Fender Twin or Roland Jazz Chorus sounds are fairly easy...and common...in these multi effects units, and so are Marshal, Mesa, and Soldano extreme distortion....but edge of breakup are very, very hard to get, and that's the one I want the most because of the type of music I mostly play. Very impressive.

    • @MiroslawBlazek-Gdansk
      @MiroslawBlazek-Gdansk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try to put a low-ratio compressor before the OD and/or amp in the signal chain.
      Additionally, you may want to put a high-ratio compressor or brickwall limiter right after the OD or amp (with its threshold set at- or slightly below the audible OD breakup point).

    • @jeffsadie9496
      @jeffsadie9496 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I will try that.@@MiroslawBlazek-Gdansk

    • @MiroslawBlazek-Gdansk
      @MiroslawBlazek-Gdansk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffsadie9496 Going a step further, you can drop a high-shelving filter or EQ between the first compressor and the OD and raise some treble there. This will allow you to recreate the "bright" boost present in classic Fender amps (among many others).

    I just ordered one from Sweetwater for $80 in excellent condition. I'm so stoked. I still use a Johnson J Station for my headphone/desktop set-up because of the convenience and the good stereo fx. But it's got some outdated tones from 1999. Its pretty stale other than a few tones. Amp and cab sims in 99 were garbage. THIS sounds absolutely amazing and has so many amazing features. I also ordered 2 other pedals for $50,.chorus and octave for my amp rig. Im getting 3 sick pedals for $130. We are so lucky these days to have so many affordable options.

    Hi Max how would you rate this to the Valeton GP-100? Much as I love my GP-100 I cant quite find or create the distortion I seek which is a smoother one.

      Were you able to achieve that distortion you were looking for? I'm undecided whether to buy this or the GP100. You can put two distortions on this one but it has less compared to the GP100... Help 😅

    How would this run with the bass?

    Man, about 95% of those all sounded the same to me. Would have been nice to hear more varied tones. But I get it.
    Did you try the editor on the computer? That’s a sticking point for me. Gotta have robust PC control.

    No capability for 3rd party IRs means I’m not ditching my NuX MG anytime soon.

      Actually you can load your own IRs.

    It doesn't do much for Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS).

    What I would like to know is, can you create your own tone patches say for instance a George Lynch tone and then a Van Halen tone and assign them to each footswitch so you can toggle back and forth on-the-fly?

      I'm sure you can and I'm sure they have a GUI interface for PC and Mac where you can do whatever tones you want and save to the user preset bank

      You can, but the limitation is that you usually have to program them next to each other as presets (for example GL tone is preset number 198 and VH is 197 or 199). I have a similar budget modeler (the Mooer GE 150) and that’s the only way. No “scenes” within a preset like in more expensive units.
