MAWAB, Davao De Oro - Major General Jose Eriel Niembra took the helm as the 15th Commander of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division during the Change of Command Ceremony held at Sgt Demerin Grandstand, Camp General Manuel T Yan Senior in Mawab, Davao De Oro on January 27, 2023.
Commanding General of the Philippine Army Lt. Gen. Romeo S Brawner Jr. presided over the ceremony. Likewise, MGen Niembra replaced MGen Nolasco A Mempin, who bowed out of military service on January 28, 2023, upon reaching the compulsory age of 56.
MGen Niembra, a native of Polomolok, South Cotabato, served as Inspector General of the Philippine Army and Chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines before his designation as 10ID Commander. He also served as Presidential Security Group Commander, 701st Infantry Brigade Commander in Davao Oriental, and 58th Infantry Battalion Commander.
Meanwhile, during the stint of MGen Mempin as 10ID Commander, Agila Division dismantled 11 units of the Communist Terrorist Group composed of four (4) Sub-Regional Committees, three (3) Guerilla Fronts, and four (4) NPA Vertical Units. He also led the Division in achieving an Insurgency-Free Davao Region - the third in the country to do so.
In his speech, LtGen Brawner congratulated both officers. "I congratulate the new 10ID Commander, Maj. Gen. Niembra. I would also like to congratulate Maj. Gen. Mempin for his 36 years of outstanding service to the Philippine Army and the Filipino nation," he said.
"Let us remain professional. Let us focus on our jobs-give it the best we can and always maintain that culture of excellence,” LtGen Brawner added.
MGen Mempin and MGen Niembra are both proud members of the Philippine Military Academy (Bigkis Lahi) Class of 1990 and (Sambisig) Class of 1991, respectively.
