Forgive me while I rant here for a minute. Big Boy Boxing is supposed to take after Punch-Out!!, but functions nothing like it. Rather than you both having health bars, you can take 3 hits and your opponents have a health bar. There are no knockdowns. If you get downed once or the opponent gets downed once, the match is over. This ends up making the fights incredibly short since the opponents also don't bother blocking your attacks most of the time (if at all). Because of this.. There's no challenge. You just beat the other guy until they go down while avoiding being hit, and it's different from Punch-Out!! because there you have to knock them down three times in one round, here there are no rounds, and you just have to worry about downing them once, which, again, isn't hard. You can build up Thunder by hitting the opponent when they're yellow, but when your normal punches already do the job just fine and, again, the opponent doesn't block a majority of your punches, there's no real reason to not just beat them down as fast as possible. I get it, the game is only a demo right now, which would be fine if there were like 1 or 2 opponents... There are 7. That's quite a fair bit for a demo. So unless this game is gonna have double Punch-Out!!'s contender count (Wii had the most at 14, 27 if we're counting the Title Defense bouts as separate fighters) I don't see this being a very fulfilling purchase when it does eventually come out as a finished product. At the very least, Clement Panchout is KILLING it with the game's incredible OST. I just wish the songs lasted longer but I guess that's what loops are for. TL;DR: I'm not a big fan of Big Boy Boxing, at least not in its current state.
Honestly, I'm surprised that Election Year Knockout turned out to be a much better Punch-Out!! riff than Big Boy Boxing, it's a pleasant surprise though.
From the looks of some of the teaser trailers, and the animations of it, Big Boy Boxing is slated to have much, much more content than the demo. Freezie Boy won't be the only one with a second phase, and there may even be a title defense modes and things like that. There are MANY more fighters, and much clearer animations, in-game, and cinematic. I don't think this game wants to be like Punch Out word for word. I think they want to have their own unique spin on the concept. More of a zany sort of approach. Punch Out had more realism and even took inspiration from actual cultures and celebrities. Big Boy Boxing is more of a hybrid of Punch Out and Cuphead, where you're encouraged to beat these bosses with unique animations and gimmicks. I get where you're coming from. From what little they reveal, unless you go out of your way to find more, it seems like there's not a lot to it, but I think the official game will blow our expectations, the way Pizza Tower did.
@@Aflay1 Here's hoping it does blow expectations, I don't want to dislike a game that takes after a franchise that I love. And I'm fine with them having their own spin on the concept, but several enemies don't even block or counterattack a majority of the time. Because of this, you can end fight sin under 30 seconds, 20 seconds, hell some even below 10.
I think the fighters have such little health because youre only allowed to slip up 3 times in the demo so it feels like a fair fight i guess? I dont really mind it but its a fair complaint. What I dont get is why the demo is completely different from the trailers? The demo still has the old fights and old art style but the new trailers leen into a more cartoony art style and animation with a bunch of new mechanic. Idk why they put out an older version of the game for feedback but not the newer gameplay.
@@BombiscoolI'd assume the current demo doesn't have the new art style bc maybe they didn't have time to have them? So they just retrofitted the previous demo with the 3 new bosses and threw it out for the occasion That's what I think anyway
