  • Bison being hunted by wolves in Yellowstone National Park. Taken from inside a vehicle. Remember to stay 25 yards away from all wildlife besides bear and wolves, in which case, stay 100 yards away from them while in Yellowstone.

      It was only thur "government interference" that wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone NP in the 1980's.

    It must be difficult for the wolves to see all that thick, delicious meat strut by and not be able to do anything most of the time.

    Fantastic video...what an experience! Would you mind sharing where this encounter took place? As per the map I just checked, Madison leads to the West entrance of the park. Are there actually roads open in that section of the park? I guess what I'm really getting at is if that area is accessible by car during winter. I'd like to visit at some point during winter. Thanks for sharing!

      Hi there. The video was taken at Madison Junction in Yellowstone National Park. This Spring when the roads open I would suggest visiting the Lamar Valley and Hayden Valley for your best chances at seeing wolves.

    Wolves loose their advantage when the Bison are not in deep snow. When the Bison make to to the road there wasn't much of chance for a kill.

    • @ryansedgeley
      @ryansedgeley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! If you can get up here in the winter, it is a truly special time to be here. The park is open in the winter. The road to Mammoth Hot Springs and out through the Lamar Valley is open and plowed all winter. The interior of the park is accessed by snowmobile or snow coach tours. The elk are still around in the winter up near mammoth.

    It's sad to see the bison running from wolves. If they form a defensive circle and stand their ground, the wolves would be powerless. The bison like many prey don't always realize/remember what they're capable of.

    The wolves will follow a herd of anything deer, elk, buffalo ect. they won't attack until one of the animals is unable to keep pace with the herd. When an animal is no longer able to keep up with the herd the wolves will move in for the kill. And the wolves are viscous with several taking a bite at the same time until the animal is down. Wolves are smart they will spook a herd sometimes causing an animal to hurt a leg an injured animal will often be unable to keep pace with the herd and will become isolated from the herd thus becoming an easy meal for the pack.

      @@dinastarks9295 You should not just make up ideas and facts without any true knowledge. There have been only a couple known attacks on people in over 100 years! All animals are a Predator or have Predators after them. That's how the eco system works...and it works wonderfully until the number one Predator..."Mankind" gets in the way. This is not a fable like "Little Red Riding Hood"...or fictional movies who only care about sensationalism to sell tickets. Wolves being reintroduced into Yellowstone have restored the eco system, brought back vegetation that had been over digested and increased many wildlife population. Read this article and it completely explains how very easily. This platform can be used to educate us all.
