And that ad for the Country Squire was 5 years off, too. It was an interesting story to tell, sure, but it had, in the words of Chris Harris, some "continuity nightmares" for photographic citations.

My bad was born 5 years after James Dean died. It means nothing but my dad was kind of a rebel too and he has lots of James Dean paraphernalia .

TBH, after the first couple times, it's overrated. It's one of the easiest turns on the track too. However, it is like a little roller coaster drop each time, so it is fun.

These RCR stories are quickly becoming my favorite thing about RCR. Not to say I don't still love the car reviews, but I'm a big history buff so getting some auto history in an interesting format is just legendary.

its crazy, because here in cali, at the jack ranch cafe, they have a memorial for james dean there. every year on the 30th of September they hold a get together to talk about james dean. guys show up in replica 550 spyders and take you up the road where the accident happened. they also point out on the drive the position of the sun and all this other information. super erie to drive that road on that day and at that time.

James Dean was only crushed about his mom's passing and moving away from his dad. He was not crushed to leave Santa Monica nor was he crushed to have to live in Fairmount, Indiana. He quickly adapted to life in Indiana and visited four times after he moved away from Indiana.

The car has been found! I cant remember the exact details but basically the story is an older gentleman remembers when he was younger his dad hid the car behind a false wall somewhere. They're currently trying to figure out who will have rights to the car. The insurance company, the new home owners, or the guy that knows where it's at. If you're as interested in the car as I am google the little bastard and false wall it should pull the story up.

Even the most made-up stories usually have some basis in fact; the car appears to have had multiple chunks taken out of it over the years and so in all likely hood was probably broken down for parts and salvage over perhaps a couple of decades or so. Shame really

I grew up in Fairmount, where Dean is from. For those interested, they have a car show in his honor every September. The same weekend, Gas City also has a car show (about 10 minutes north), and Jonesboro (right next to Gas City) has a motorcycle show. It makes for a great weekend for automotive enthusiasts. Marion occasionally tries to do something to ride the coattails of Fairmount/Gas City/Jonesboro, claiming the "he was born in Marion" line- but let's face it- nearly everyone born in Grant County was "born" in Marion- that's where the hospital is. Otherwise, Marion is a wasteland full of meth, run-down houses, and rot.
Chuck Barris lived a fantastic life, both real and imagined. As well as claiming to be a "close pal" with the late James Dean, with intimate knowledge about THE LITTLE BASTARD, he also claimed to be a CIA assassin with a double life as a show biz personality for about 20 years. Now 4 years later I would suggest a research topic: The Blue Train race involving the Bentley boys. Wolfe Barnato subsequently commissioned a 'Corsica' style coachwork on new Bentley, celebrating that event that caught global media attention. That unique car is well-known in collector car communities.
There was a lesser known actor named Tom Pittman. Although lesser known, he had a lot of film and radio credits under his belt and was considered "Hollywoods most promising actor." He idolized James Dean and even had the same model Porsche as Dean. Like Dean he died from a car crash, he was leaving a party during Halloween and went through a guard rail and went down a ravine over a hundred feet down and out of sight. He ended up being found less than a month later from a cop. One of the films he was in was in a MST3K episode for "High School Big Shot."

Yes, I know. I was trying to be constructive in my criticism. It's one thing to say "hey my pronunciation of a car company is wrong, but that's how we say it in , so deal with it", it's another thing to talk about a specific individual, and pronounce their name wrong.

I have a son who could have passed as James Dean when he was young. There was a picture in a local paper of him dressed like Dean, climbing out of the back seat of my show quality Crown Victoria, with his leggy blonde girlfriend, at the christmas dance, it was a period perfect picture, except the car was 1 year too new.

In a made for TV movie, a man acquires the wreckage and rebuilds Dean's 550. The movie is called "the darkling ". It came out in 2000. It showed a very bashed up vw karmann ghia painted to look like the 550. Then he had the car rebuild and put it on display. The finished car was a 550 replica. There is a little info online.

Even the most made-up stories usually have some basis in fact; the car appears to have had multiple chunks taken out of it over the years and so in all likely hood was probably broken down for parts and salvage over perhaps a couple of decades or so. Shame really
@@henrykincaid6821 It certainly is apparent,from studying the crash site photos, that the vehicle was really seriously trashed in that collision...those photos of the car that Barris put on display, show a vehicle that had somehow been modified, to look a little less smashed up!...a couple of longer-ranged 'witnesses to the crash, said they thought Rolfe had been the driver, but they were wrong...Accident witnesses are frequently inconsistent when describing what they think they have seen.

I grew up in Fairmount, where Dean is from. For those interested, they have a car show in his honor every September. The same weekend, Gas City also has a car show (about 10 minutes north), and Jonesboro (right next to Gas City) has a motorcycle show. It makes for a great weekend for automotive enthusiasts. Marion occasionally tries to do something to ride the coattails of Fairmount/Gas City/Jonesboro, claiming the "he was born in Marion" line- but let's face it- nearly everyone born in Grant County was "born" in Marion- that's where the hospital is. Otherwise, Marion is a wasteland full of meth, run-down houses, and rot.

As well as claiming to be a "close pal" with the late James Dean, with intimate knowledge about THE LITTLE BASTARD, he also claimed to be a CIA assassin with a double life as a show biz personality for about 20 years. His "memoirs" were later made into a movie CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND. He was also creator of THE GONG SHOW and composed the hit pop tune PALISADES PARK. What a guy!....

There was a lesser known actor named Tom Pittman. Although lesser known, he had a lot of film and radio credits under his belt and was considered "Hollywoods most promising actor." He idolized James Dean and even had the same model Porsche as Dean. Like Dean he died from a car crash, he was leaving a party during Halloween and went through a guard rail and went down a ravine over a hundred feet down and out of sight. He ended up being found less than a month later from a cop. One of the films he was in was in a MST3K episode for "High School Big Shot."

I have a son who could have passed as James Dean when he was young. There was a picture in a local paper of him dressed like Dean, climbing out of the back seat of my show quality Crown Victoria, with his leggy blonde girlfriend, at the christmas dance, it was a period perfect picture, except the car was 1 year too new.
I watch basically everything on this channel the day it comes out, but the 37 minutes was a daunting commitment. ...Well worth it though. I love these stories :)

In a made for TV movie, a man acquires the wreckage and rebuilds Dean's 550. The movie is called "the darkling ". It came out in 2000. It showed a very bashed up vw karmann ghia painted to look like the 550. Then he had the car rebuild and put it on display. The finished car was a 550 replica. There is a little info online.
