If you are taking your Dell Inspiron 11 3147 laptop apart be careful and wear an anti-static wrist band or use other anti-static device. Separating the LED screen from the digitizer is hardly possible. At least on the version of the laptop I got here. Replacing a keyboard only is pretty much impossible without bending a palmrest. If you need to put a laptop back to work be aware of screws. They are different and you better remember or mark them somehow to insure that you will put them back in to a right place.
Some laptops I take apart first time, so don't be serious on my time and performance.
If something got broken - ooops, it's your fault.
Believe me, some parts in your laptop are already broken, you just don't see that.

Sir, you are a life saver.
Had one of theses laptops collecting dust for MONTHS after the right hinge went bad. Dell immediately cried "out of warranty repair" even though I had it barely 6 months, and I wasn't about to spend over US$200 for an entire LCD just for a hinge.
You video gave me all confidence to open screen and I was finally able to identify a bad/broken cog that was locking the hinge. I had to remove it and hop the hinge can work somewhat now, until I can find the hinges only to purchase online. THANKS!
what did you do to the hinge? mine is displaced too. And I can't seem to find one for sale on internet. Maybe it's a permanent part of LCD, I'm thinking. should I open it?

The easiest way to find out is to watch a video and if it was removable - I would remove it in the video. I also can watch it but I would guess it is non removable.

Wow! thanks for this video. Just what I needed to replace the hinges on mine. the back lid with hinge that I bought online though is quote hard to rotate :( Is it safe to spray WD40 into it? I hope I can still get a reply seeing that this post is from 2015.
As long as it will be a little amount of wd40 and it will not get on motherboard and all other electrical parts - should be fine. Thanks

I cracked the screen on my Dell 3148 and I believe the 3147 still has the same casing. At 9 minutes you remove the screen. I noticed a glue squiggly line on the right side. Did you have to first loosen the glue some how or does this glass just snap off? Need to know so I have all the tools prepared when I try and switch out the glass.
I would appreciate any help you can give. I am also shopping around for the glass for the 3148. Let me know if you have any resources please.

I have the same laptop and I have a big problem trying to turn it on. It will only turn on after several attemps and once it is on it might randomly turn off out of nothing. I brought it to customer service where I was told it was something like a "flex" which I got repaired but after a week I have the same problem again. They've offered me a new laptop (same model) but I'm not sure wether to accept it or not, 'cause idk if I will have the same problem again. Should I get the same laptop or another one?
I dropped mine and one of the hinges will not rotalte fully any longer. I cannot close the laptop, neit Iher can I fold it like a tablet. That hinge will only rotate a little in both directions, then it gets stuck. I tried to force it a ittle, but I did not force it too much so that I won't break it. Does it have something inside of it that can cause it to get stuck? Some sort of mechanism?
Hinge probably bent and maybe some other damages. You would need to take it apart a little and assess the damages. And figure if it worth it to fix it. Check for some parts on eBay.
