As clearly noted, the Yahoo Boys side of things impacted SOME artists and SOME circles in the Nigerian music industry. This should be very clear. It’s not a unique thing to Nigeria either, many African countries back in the day had a lot of illicit proceedings being funnelled through the music industry whether to their detriment or benefit. That means some people won’t like what they hear as they expect to reinforce their pre-existing beliefs and biases but that can’t be my battle. That’s your battle.

Nigerians in diaspora?? Yes, but I think it is Africans in the diaspora. Nigerians understand that the Africans in the diaspora are mostly united. Nigerian artists collaborate with other African artists for this purpose. South Africans will not understand this because they hardly travel, but your diaspora population, no matter how small it is, understands the power of African unity. Afrobeat is not a Nigerian beat. it's Afro for a reason. The bigger the net, the bigger the catch(fish).

Nigerias arrogance and need to dominate and be seen as supreme in Africa is much bigger than your so called need for African unity...only weak minded nations still buy that rhetoric from Nigerians - you cant even unite in your own country as Africans... South Africans are just not intimated, nor are we easily brainwashed by this African power nonsense that sees all of Africa bowing to Nigeria... no sir... Also its funny that you only preach unity of africans when its has to do with Nigeria being at the forefront or dominating. Never when its not to your benefit...lol

Our diaspora community did a lot for our music industry, something even Nigerians in Nigerians still dont understand till today. This is how it works, the Nigerians at home create potential stars, these potential stars gets mini hits, the rest is then lifted by the Nigerians in diaspora. Example is portable, shallipopi, even Asake, seyi vibez. Are you seeing the pattern?. Nigerians in diaspora are not afraid to SPEND their money on their own. This alone trumps all other factors. Spending power of the Nigerian disapora money.

@@tspen4128We're talking about the music industry. Neither India nor China dominate their respective continent with their music, whereas Nigeria does while also enjoying global reach.

This is the type of mindset one would expect from a "dumb American" who thinks the "world" is the united states...I don't care to educate nor have a laboured discussion on Chinese and Indian markets or dynamics, you can do that research in your own time...using Jamaica doesnt further your point nor does it negate mine...Reggae music was/is unique to that region and it did have international appeal- if you know anything of the history and evolution of it, you will know that for it to eventually become global, it was supported by blacks in Jamaica, Europe and the Americas(& eventually made it's way to Africa, where the root influence was from)... It was particularly poignant during the hippy era in America and civil rights/black power movement...
So again, it speaks to the idea of having a huge base that consumes and spreads something all over the globe...

You will have to study the Nollywood model that came before the afrobeats model to see some sort of blueprint for the path that the music industry eventually followed how they dealt with piracy etc.. It is not that the other countries in Africa lack talent we all know that is not true but In my opinion your solution is only half of it. yes the countries should play to their strengths but they also need collaborate a lot more amongst each other and especially with the Nigerians on the business side of things(because they have already established the networks and a proven path into the global space.)

Theres no mystery here... Nigerias current "dominance" of afrobeatz, globally, is their vast population at home and abroad. But also that they are good at taking and adapting things from other cultures and appropriating it as their own...(See jollof & Amapiano).
We know this because the psquare dbanj eras and before never broke through...which speaks to this whole, nigeria is and has always been the best,narrative... SA has historically always had a few stars that reach the international market and are recognised for their talent. To the point that any sounds you heard in hollwoood movies and otherwise, referring to Africa, were almost always South Africans( with some Kenyan/tanzania sounds used to)... Think lion king, George of the jungles, etc...
Afrobeats today draws so much from the hypnotic sounds from SA that ofcourse coupled with their diaspora prevalence is making them seem like they are originators and innovators, when in reality, SA is where this is born and innovated

@margaretwumi751 smh... India's Bollywood and cricket stars are more popular in their regions than any American or popular star... So yes, population size does matter... literally! You need people to consume your shit...
If Ethiopians decided to make popular sounds and things that people gravitate towards, they would have some skin in the game. The fact that you are blatantly trying to exclude the other factor I noted to Nigeria's success is also amusing... Nigeria didn't become dominant on its own merit or people gravitating to things authentic to Nigeria... It became that way by your artists noticing what other cultures are doing that's good and appropriating it as Nigerian...I used the word appropriate/stealing because unlike many other cultures that borrow and use things from other cultures, they don't pretend like they originated them and those things somehow become attributable to them because they are the loudest...This is part of why I dont give Nigeria the respect that would otherwise be due to them... The only artist in the modern era that I give respect to for being truly Nigerian and representing all things original to Nigeria is Rema...

Musically, Nigeria is weak. Hence, they tend to copy the styles and genre from different countries. Apart from nigerian neighbouring countries, which country is also trying to copy Afrobeats?

Hey I was following your content until you went off as usual the negative narrative. Yes Yahoo boys bank rolled afrobeats. Daft narrative. It is not that the Nigerian afrobeats has the best quality. Jealousy is a killer

Thank you for taking your time to watch part of the video. I genuinely appreciate that. Unfortunately, I cannot modify reality to accommodate audience sensitivity to well-documented facts.
You are welcome to Google and research anything you dispute.

I don’t make these videos to find consensus but to cover as many bases as possible to paint the accurate picture. That means some people won’t like what they hear as they expect to reinforce their pre-existing beliefs but that can’t be my battle. I already get enough abuse in the comments from Nigerians and everyone else that just expects praise videos for their favourite song, artist, genre or country. I thank you again for watching.
